Maria Shriver ... did she get a special break yesterday when she went muffin/shoe shopping in Santa Monica, CA and left her SUV next to an expired parking meter? We decided to see for ourselves, and frankly ... we didn't do so well.
TMZ's intrepid muffin-eating reporter, Gary, went to Peet's Coffee -- the scene of Maria's crime. Gary left his whip at an expired meter and went inside for an orange-cranberry muffin. Gary was gorging himself when he looked out the window and saw a parking enforcement lady drive up to his car and get out.
Gary ran outside and pleaded, "I'm sorry. My meter must have ran out. I was inside getting muffins that were very important. I'm leaving right now."
Her response: "Sorry, there's nothing I can do for you. That's the way it is." She proceeded to write Gary a $50 parking ticket.
In fairness, Gary did not have a Dignitary Protection deputy to plead his case.
But, Gary says, the muffin was "delicious."
UPDATE: We apologize to Gary's mother ... who was under the impression he was on a diet.

TMZ has learned Nick Nolte's son was arrested for suspicion of DUI and possession of a controlled substance yesterday in Santa Monica.
Law enforcement sources tell us Brawley King Nolte -- who starred as the kidnapped kid in "Ransom" back in the day -- struck another vehicle while making a lane change yesterday afternoon.
When cops arrived, we're told the 23-year-old showed signs of impairment, so cops conducted field sobriety tests and eventually arrested him. Nolte's bail was set at $5,000.
Nick was arrested for DUI back in 2002 -- you may remember his infamous mugshot....

A court case between two big celebrities was dismissed today because no one showed up for the hearing ...
... the case: Merv Griffin vs Ed McMahon.
The Griffin Group sued Ed and his wife Pamela last year -- claiming a $100,000 loan Merv gave Ed in 2005 was never repaid.
Since no one showed up to court in Santa Monica yesterday for either side, the case was tossed out ... so it looks like this one is gonna have to be settled in the Highest of Courts.

It is every man's fantasy to have Megan Fox bring them a beer -- and a few lucky SOBs actually got to live it out on Friday night.
Megan was a celebrity bartender at an event at Sonny McLean's in Santa Monica to raise money for a charity called Team Stacie. Megan's on-again/off-again BF Brian Austin Green was scheduled to be there -- Megan was just an added bonus.
We're guessing she made more in tips.

A family prayer and an emotional toast are intimate family moments during a wedding rehearsal dinner -- or just what's coming up next on the Kardashian reality show du jour.
The rehearsal dinner for Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom's wedding was an intimate affair -- if you ignore the camera crew and producers. At one point you can see Khloe's mom, Kris Jenner, arguing with someone on the staff about the cake.

Finally, Jessica Alba has a reason to frown -- cops busted her perfectly sculpted ass going the wrong way on a one way street!
According to people at the scene, a Santa Monica police officer wrote her up yesterday after he noticed Alba driving through an alley and going the opposite way of the giant posted arrow sign -- which you can see is clearly hanging in the upper left hand corner of the photo.
No celebrity justice here...

Isla Fisher somehow got out of a ticket for double parking in Santa Monica Friday -- but this was no case of celebrity justice.
Fisher double-parked her SUV while she was picking up her young daughter at a restaurant, drawing a swarm of paps around her vehicle. A cop, who happened to drive by, stopped to investigate. He talked to Fisher for a moment and then let her go.
We talked to the cops who told us the deputy didn't give her any special treatment. In fact, he didn't even know who she was!
"Confessions of a Shopaholic" apparently is not popular among the police.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen got hitched last night in Santa Monica, and Tom's parents didn't exactly radiate with joy -- at least at this moment in time.
According to Us Weekly, Tom's kid showed up sans mommy Bridget Moynahan. We're told Bridget isn't exactly a fan. The shindig after the wedding at St. Monica Catholic Church was thrown at Tom's Brentwood house.
Remember that story we posted that they got engaged on a private jet just before XMAS and Gisele kept saying they were not engaged....

Looks like Fergie wasn't lying when she sang about workin' out to keep her body staying vicious.
The duchess and her "Las Vegas" hunk Josh Duhamel got their fitness on yesterday in Santa Monica. The healthy couple did stretches, went for a jog and ran stairs. After the intense workout, the sweaty lovebirds congratulated each other with a hug and then hopped into Josh's truck and sped off.

He's already stained his reputation -- now Mel Gibson has the shirt to match.
After a wild dining experience left the actor's shirt covered with all sorts of drips and stains Friday night, Mel stepped out of a Santa Monica restaurant and chatted with a few paparazzi before jumping in his car and driving off.
Apparently, he doesn't hate the juice.

Just weeks after world famous illusionist Criss Angel was caught trying to show Paris Hilton his magic wand, it seems the woman Angel had been allegedly dating has moved on.
Minnie Driver, wearing ugg-ly boots, and a new mystery man hit the streets of Santa Monica on Tuesday, holding hands and looking extremely lovey-dovey throughout the afternoon. Take wing, Angel.
Even if there's no real romance between the two,one thing is certain -- Minnie knows how to make a mouse out of a man.
