Sarah Silverman is always down for a scholastic challenge, but when we hit her up with an impromptu spelling test at LAX this weekend -- someone forgot how many crooked letters it takes to spell Mississippi! 
She did spell it correctly the second time around -- but 13-year-old Kavya Shivashankar didn't need a second chance when she locked down the Scripps National Spelling Bee championship back in May ... and her word was "Laodicean."
This may not be the most surprising revelation we've ever heard, but Sarah Silverman coughed up a good answer when our guy wanted to know one of her vices.
Hey, it's legal in California.
One annoyingly persistent autograph hunter learned a valuable lesson last night: You mess with the Silverman, you get the horn.
Yesterday at LAX, Sarah also confirmed the world's worst kept secret: It's officially "game on" with Jimmy Kimmel ... again.

It takes a lot to shock a comic like Sarah Silverman -- but one fan certainly came close yesterday.
While Sarah patiently and smilingly signed autographs outside of "The Late Show," one strident woman just wouldn't let up on Silverman, haranguing her about everything from not signing autographs (puzzling, since that's what she was doing) to her "adorable mistakes" bit at the MTV VMAs. And while Sarah did her best to smile through the heckler, she couldn't hide just a little WTF in her expression.
Meanwhile, Sarah -- whose show restarts tonight -- told us she wasn't really tweaking our cameraman's nips this weekend -- but our guy's aureolar condition suggests otherwise.

A CBS promo party brought out Southern girl Emily Proctor, "How I Met Your Mother" actors Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan, and "CSI: Miami" star Khandi Alexander.
In NY: Songstress Gloria Estefan catered to her fans, P. Diddy was dressed to impress at the launch of his Unforgivable fragrance, while Usher busted a 'tude and, Beyonce sported a new 'do.

Wouldn't it be great if every time someone asked you a question about Sarah Silverman, she magically appeared?
Hayden Panettiere was at LAX last night, returning from the VMAs in Las Vegas, when paps started asking her about Britney Spears' performance and Sarah Silverman's jokes. Hayden just turned around and said, "You can go ask her yourself, she's right there!" And there she was! Neat trick!
The photog asked Silverman if she thought she was hard on Britney. "I hope not," she said. Asked whether she thought her routine threw Britney off her game, Sarah explained, "I didn't do any of my jokes until my performance, so it couldn't have." Another Britney excuse out the window.

Paris Hilton looked ready to burst into tears during the MTV Movie Awards -- and a TMZ spy says that she took off from the audience after one of host Sarah Silverman's biting cracks. Thank God for waterproof mascara!
Silverman announced, "In a couple of days, Paris Hilton is going to jail," which was followed by a huge roar of approval from the Gibson Amphitheater crowd -- and a tight reaction shot of the distressed heiress.
Silverman went on to say, "As a matter of fact, I heard that to make her feel more comfortable in prison, the guards are going to paint the bars to look like penises." Silverman paused for the laugh and continued, "I think it's wrong, too. I just worry that she's going to break her teeth on those things." Low blow, Sarah!
