The only thing worse than owing nearly $80,000 in child support? When the kid you're allegedly failing to support is fighting an inoperable brain tumor ... but that's just how the Real O.C.'s Slade Smiley happens to roll.
TMZ has obtained a letter sent to Slade's baby mama from the Department of Child Support Services last month, which states Slade owes her $77,356.75 in late child support payments ... plus 10 percent interest whenever he doesn't cut her a check on time.
Slade filed a request in L.A. County Superior Court two weeks after the DCSS sent the letter, asking a judge to lower the enormous child support bill because he says he's unemployed and makes zero dollars. Slade's rep tells us Slade has "jumped through burning hoops to take care of [his child's] well-being and health."
Slade's baby mama begs to differ, telling us Slade has only seen his sick 9-year-old son Grayson twice in the last year and a half -- and hasn't even sent the kid a birthday card.

Slade Smiley must hit like a "Real Housewife of Orange County" -- because it took some guy a whole week to realize Slade even (allegedly) hit him. Or at least that's what we're guessing.
Laguna Beach PD is looking into an altercation Slade allegedly got into at a friend's birthday party back on July 15.
Law enforcement told us that "there was a pushing and shoving match" that led to the other guy leaving the party. The hotel where the party was being held did not call the cops that night and neither did the other guy ... until eight days later.
We're told it's an open investigation.

Slade Smiley from "The Real Housewives of Orange County" -- yes, there are guys on that show -- was picked up by Costa Mesa PD today on a civil contempt warrant.
We're told Smiley was popped this afternoon and is currently being held on $10,000 bail.
It's unclear what the warrant is for ... there's a buzz it involves unpaid child support, but so far we haven't confirmed it.
UPDATE -- Slade's people are saying he was "unaware" that the warrant existed until he was arrested. The warrant had to do with money he owed his baby mama for their son who has been suffering from a rare form of brain cancer for several years. He says, "This is an unfortunate situation that has occurred. My son is very ill and we have been working on resolving the issue of support vs. his enormous medical bills with the appropriate agencies for several months now. It is sad that individuals would take advantage of the situation in an attempt to defame and discredit me in such a public manner. For those who know me, there is nothing more important than my children."

Everyone's favorite "Real Housewives" exes, Slade Smiley and Jo De La Rosa, are back to swapping spit ... to both the relief and horror of ... everyone.
Sure, it's through the medium of a sweet, candy-topped cupcake, but the two are still looking mighty chummy. There was another chick hidden in the backseat -- though if that's Slade's new girlfriend, Jo probably shouldn't have been riding shotgun.

Former "Real Housewives of Orange County" sublebs Jo De La Rosa and Slade Smiley may not be a couple anymore -- or reality stars, for that matter -- but they've each moved on to physically bigger and questionably better things.
TMZ cameras spotted Jo out with another reality show reject -- "Sons of Hollywood" star David Weintraub. The pair were out about on Robertson Blvd. yesterday, hitting up the trendy boutique Lisa Kline. A source inside the store tells us that Jo was trying on several different outfits (didn't buy any) and that David was very "touchy-feely" with her. *shudder*
Not to be topped, Slade was out and about last night with a busty piece of arm candy by his side. When our camera guy wanted to know how Jo was doing, to which Slade shot back, "Jo is probably fine."
Probably, indeed.

In an event as shocking as the San Diego fires, Jo De La Rosa's singing career is actually happening!
The former "Real Housewives of Orange Country" star -- who was never actually a housewife -- is in L.A., and her ex-fiance, Slade Smiley, tells TMZ that her upcoming CD is "really, really good." Of course it is! Another Heidi Montag in the making!
As if the album weren't enough, the two ex-OCers are also in talks to have their own spin-off show. Set your TiVos ... on fire.

"Real Housewives of Orange County" stud Slade Smiley has a new reason for his toothy grin -- he's replaced ex-fiancee Jo De La Rosa with some even hotter arm candy. Jo 2.0!
Slade, who's now living in L.A. and working with Jo on her new album (ack), was caught by TMZ outside Parc on Saturday night with a sexy Maria Menounos-alike clinging tightly to her man.
Neither Slade nor Jo will be on the new season of "Real Housewives," but they could possibly have their own spinoff show in the future. Hope Jo doesn't mind sharing the hottie spotlight!

TMZ just received promo materials for the new season of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Orange County," and we were shocked -- shocked! -- to see that Jo De La Rosa and Slade Smiley, the spiciest couple in the O.C. since L.C. and Jason Wahler, were nowhere to be found! Where'd they go?!
Sources tell TMZ that the pair -- no longer an item -- declined Bravo's request for them to star on season three. We're told Jo had a commitment to her record label, and, more importantly, was over the show. Fear not, though, we've learned Jo (and Slade -- if you can stand it) could be getting their own "Hills"-esque spin-off, which will chronicle Jo's climb to musical stardom. Paging Heidi Montag! In fact, we're told Jo's label has hired one of Britney's songwriters to pen her stuff. Wait- is that a good idea right now?
