Mutha F&*$in' Snakes in a Theater!

Snakes in a theater! It was a wild Saturday night in Phoenix this past weekend. The Phoenix PD responded to a call that there was a snake in a movie theater in north Phoenix. The theater -- you knew it was coming -- happened to be showing "Snakes on a Plane."

Police arrived and found one eight-inch baby rattlesnake in the hallway, not in the actual theater. The police think the snake probably came from a construction area nearby. The rattler was corralled and turned over to the Arizona Herpetological Association -- or folks who like snakes.

Police tell TMZ that rattlesnake calls are not all that uncommon in the Phoenix area and reports that the snake was intentionally put in the theater during the movie are not true.

"Snakes" on the Brain

Samuel L. Jackson in Snakes On A PlaneSorry for the delay in posts. We spent Friday laid up with enough Vicodin to immobilize several dozen anacondas, having pulled a muscle playing softball against KCRW earlier in the week.

I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say that Friday's drug haze left me plenty of time to both hallucinate and cogitate. Indeed, in the midst of my pharmacological phantasmagoria, I dreamed that New Line Cinema had released a film called "Snakes on a Plane."

Crazy, I know. It's exactly the kind of delusional thinking that can come from watching "Little Man" and "Lady in the Water" back-to-back.

Worst of all, I imagined that, having created perhaps the most reductive title in history, New Line went one further and opened the movie-making process to the unwashed masses. Online denizens whose crowning academic achievement is a certification in food safety offered helpful tweaks like "I want to see a dude get bit on his weiner!" and "Make Samuel Jackson say, 'I want these motherf--king snakes off this motherf--king plane!'"

More, having elicited these salacious responses from the madding crowd, I envisioned New Line incorporated such recommendations into the script, so that "Snakes" got not the PG-13 rating that could have opened it at $25 million, but rather at a piddling $15 million.

Secondly, I even visualized New Line's marketing department signed off on a sequel, "Sheiks on a Plane," about a group of Pakistani nationals whose Islamo-Fascist worldview drives them to combine everyday gels and liquids into explosives aboard a gaggle of transatlantic planes.

I know, I know: Totally implausible, right?

Well, at least that first part. That second one probably has a shot at getting made.

Treos on a Plane

In yet another non-traditional move, the charmers behind "Snakes on a Plane" are adding another interesting twist to the most strangely hyped movie of all time. This time, producers have decided to hand Treo's over to the bloggers who helped create the huge buzz around the slithering film.

Rachel Blanchard / Treo
The select group of web-heads will be given Treo's at the premiere of the Samuel L. Jackson action film, where they can share their take of the movie with the entire internet community almost immediately. The all-in-one Treo smartphone combines a phone, e-mail, messaging, web searching, MP3 playing capabilities and a camera ... the perfect device whether your blogging from the red-carpet ... or have an experience with real snakes on a plane! (maybe send a text to Sam?)

As long as Samuel L. Jackson doesn't yell "Get these !@#%!# Treo's off this red carpet" we're sure things will be fine. "Snakes on a Plane" premieres August 18th.

Snakes on a T-Shirt, or a Mug, or a Hat ...

So you want to make your own "Snakes on a Plane" T-shirt or trucker hat? Well, as of this afternoon, you can -- legally -- and the film's studio just might make your design famous.

The slither-marketing of "Snakes on a Plane" on the Internet continues unabated: This afternoon, "SoaP" studio New Line Cinema and community-retailing pioneer CafePress.com tell TMZ that they're announcing a licensing deal that lets CafePress users customize t-shirts, mugs, trucker hats, and other merchandise with a "Snakes on a Plane" theme -- in whatever way they like.

Upending the traditional movie licensing deal, wherein a manufacturer or retailer or fast-food joint gets to use images and characters from a film to make action figures or baseball caps or kids' meals under strict regulations from the studio, today's deal between New Line and CafePress doesn't give the site's users any pre-made graphics or images to use in their creations.
