Jimmy Kimmel scored big-time this week, booking The Killers for a three-night gig on his late-night talk show.
TMZ cameras caught the band rocking out on Kimmel's outdoor stage yesterday, during the second night of their late-night stint. After playing a tune from their new album, "Sam's Town," the Las Vegas quartet broke into their first smash hit, "Mr. Brightside."
The band concludes their 3-day run on the show tonight.

Even before The Killers delivered their second album, "Sam's Town," references to Bruce Springsteen's 1975 "Born to Run" had been littered throughout almost every website, article, or review one could get their hands on. Are the comparisons warranted? Listen to the intros of both "When You Were Young" and "Born to Run" for yourself.

"Springsteen touches on the American dream, and that idea runs through the record. It's very optimistic," was a statement made by Killers frontman Brandon Flowers himself. But where he first truly channeled Springsteen publicly was in his confidence to say that "Sam's Town" would be the "best album of the past 20 years," much like the confidence Bruce has displayed throughout his career. If he could only remember the one thing that Springsteen never forgot -- to let the music speak for itself -- during interviews about his new mustache.
Then there's the question of their live shows. Bruce has been regarded as one of America's greatest live musicians, putting on legendary three-hour spectacles. The Killers performed the song "When You Were Young" this past Saturday on "Saturday Night Live" and took an immediate hit from critics. Thanks to the rare footage that you can get in the 30th anniversary edition of "Born to Run" we can also see Bruce perform "Born to Run" in 1975 when he was about the same age as Mr. Flowers is now. Compare those -- then you can be the judge.

NBC announced today that comedian Dane Cook will host the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live," while Horatio Sanz, Chris Parnell and Finesse Mitchell won't be back this season.
The Killers, whose second album "Sam's Town" is in stores October 3, will be the musical guest.
The trimmed-down "SNL" cast will feature Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Darrell Hammond, Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson and Kristen Wiig. Poehler will serve as the "Weekend Update" anchor with a new partner to be announced later.
Tina Fey, Poehler's former co-anchor, has gone to NBC's new sitcom "30 Rock" with another former "SNL" star, Rachel Dratch.
"Saturday Night Live" kicks of its 32nd season on September 30.

There was a time when the culture of music was used to speak your mind, spread your voice, and take a stand.
As The Killers prepare for the release of their second album "Sam's Town," they find themselves standing in the shadows of big boots left vacant by the legendary performers of music's past. There is a sense that they are trying to make this the album of their lives, and to be the band that ties the laces themselves.
Comparing current day artists to anyone in music's past is unjust. As press has begun for the new album music journalists have taken their traditional covetous approach in regards to comments made about influences. Brandon Flowers is not Bruce Springsteen. 2006 is not 1975.
When you listen to Springsteen's life lived through his body of work you understand not only the status that allows him to be referenced for an album he wrote 31 years ago but in hearing you understand a philosophy of life because of everything he was. The ability to hear what he encompassed and understand the need for it today is something that should be revered.
What they will be able to deliver on October 3rd (the album's release date) and more importantly live is uncertain, but with clear eyes and steady hands, one thing The Killers have done is take a stand.
"There's nothing that touches this album" - Brandon Flowers (The Killers lead singer), in an interview in NME.
