The Return of Halo ... and Jesse Metcalf

Jessie MetcalfMaybe he missed the spotlight, maybe he missed the free stuff, but rehabbed Jesse Metcalf is officially back in the party scene. Someone needs to pick up Paris' slack!

After a wild weekend in Miami and the Bahamas, the former "Desperate Housewives" houseboy rolled through the Halo 3 party in West Hollywood last night, where he picked up a free X-Box 360 Elite and little ribbing from a TMZ photog. When asked about Paris' impending jail time, Jesse commented, "That's a little harsh." Insightful!

John Salley said he was giving his Xbox 360 Elite and Zune to Charity -- his daughter Charity! John "Napoleon Dynamite" Heder hit the town with his friends. Chris Evans and the dancing Tatyana Ali made an appearance. Dane Cook, Matt Leinart and Adam Rodriguez from "CSI" were also on hand -- and gave TMZ a shout-out.

Even Paris found time to let off some socialite steam and join in gaming fun. TMZ spies claims that Hilton was dancing inside with her newest boytoy Josh Henderson and sister Nicky. Who says video games are just for boys?

Halo 3 hits stores September 25.

Halo-tacular Video

When the Halo 3 beta test hits XBox Live on Monday May 16, why not get in the mood with some hot gaming video?

Super Halo 3 beta tester Mr. Juke has compiled a video of his beta-testing ways, and Bungie Studios, makers of Halo, has posted it for all the world to drool over. Mr. Juke utilized the Saved Films feature that will be available in Halo 3.

Keep in mind the video is footage of an internal build of the Halo 3 beta. It is older then the beta version players will encounter on May 16.

Summer of Simpsons

Homer XboxHomer, Bart and the rest of the Simpsons clan are making it a very yellow summer.

FOX and Microsoft are teaming up to promote "The Simpsons Movie" by offering fans the chance to win one of 100 limited-edition "Simpsons" Xbox 360 Pro consoles. The consoles can be had through a series of special events and promotions.

If you're not lucky enough to win the "Simpsons" console (doh!), don't fret. EA Games announced an upcoming "Simpsons" video game available on all the major consoles and handhelds. The game will follow the Simpsons' adventures when they realize that they have been licensed as a video game. So it's a video game about a video game with parodies of current and past video games. Mmmmm, slightly confusing video game plot.

It's turning out to be, in Comic Book Guy's own words, "The best summer, ever."

Halo Beta: Because Sleep is Overrated

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today announced that the most anticipated video game beta ever, "Halo 3" will be hitting Xbox Live on May 16 at 5:00 AM PDT and end on June 6 at 11:59 PM PDT.

Xbox 360 gamers who have secured their admission to the beta, either through the "Rule of Three" promotion or by purchasing specially marked copies of "Crackdown," will be able to play online with their Xbox Live Gold account.

This gives one full month of Red Bull-fueled, multi-player action on three new maps, with new and improved weapons and everyone's favorite new vehicle, the Mongoose. You can sleep when you're dead.

Chatter Xbox

If Microsoft has its way, you'll never turn your Xbox 360 off -- ever.
Xbox Live
In addition to TV and movie downloads, the ability to play classic games and, of course, HD video games, Microsoft has just announced Windows Live Messenger will be coming to the Xbox 360 console's Xbox Live on May 7. Now you can send messages while watching movies, listening to music or even while gaming.

We all know that using an onscreen keyboard is the worst idea introduced to gaming since the Virtual Boy. You can attach a USB keyboard to the console, but once you go wireless, it's hard to deal with that unsightly wire. Thankfully, Microsoft is releasing a keyboard controller add-on this summer -- so you can type wirelessly from your couch. Ah, science.

Now, if the Xbox 360 made nachos, we'd be set!

Are You Ready to Rock?

The cancellation of the Van Halen reunion was a disappointment to fans everywhere, but they can still get their Van Halen fix, thanks to Guitar Hero 2 on the Xbox 360!
Guitar Hero 2
For those who haven't heard of this groundbreaking game, players use a guitar as the controller and rock along to their favorite songs. The Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero 2 allows you to rock-out to over 70 intense tracks, including songs by Wolfmother, Pearl Jam, Dick Dale, Suicidal Tendencies and Guns n' Roses.

Launching on Tuesday, the Xbox 360 version of the wildly popular guitar-playing video game has graphics optimized for the Xbox 360, and it will allow players to download new tracks, new guitars and new characters using the Xbox Live Marketplace. You even get an updated guitar controller, the X-Plorer, based on the famous Gibson guitar.

With the Guitar Hero 2's cooperative mode, you can even recreate your own Van Halen concerts. Just choose Van Halen's version of "You Got Me," and plug in two guitars -- players can choose to play lead guitar, bass guitar or rhythm. Become the ultimate father/son rock combo like Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen, or use the Face-Off mode to battle your guitar-wielding foe in the ultimate shredfest!

Now all you need is an egomaniacal frontman to pull off some karate kicks.

Snoop's End Zone Dance

The Doggfather showed New York Yankee Johnny Damon that he's more than a lyrical master. Snoop can throwdown on Madden NFL for the Xbox 360.

At a recent Professional Baseball Gaming League charity event, stick-thin Snoop (who is Commissioner of the Hip Hop Gaming League), planted his virtual shoulder pads right into Damon's pixelated chin strap. While the World Series hero took his beating like a good sport, Snoop didn't have any problem running his mouth every time he reached cyber paydirt.

If all gamers were this entertaining, Professional Gaming would have no problem getting an audience.

Check out the entire event tonight at 8:00 PM EDT on GAMEPLAY HD, found on the DISH Network's VOOM suite.

Sonic Boom

Few video game characters have the staying power of Sonic the Hedgehog. After 15 years of super-speed coin grabbing, Sonic is still blasting past the competition, with his friend Shadow, and new character, Silver.

With Sonic's blistering speed, Shadow's ability to commandeer vehicles, and Silver's futuristic telekinetic power to pick up objects and hurl them at enemies, the heroes must band together to rescue Princess Elise, who is voiced by longtime Sonic fan, actress Lacey Chabert ("Party of Five," "Mean Girls").

With cameos by longtime sonic allies like Blaze the Cat and Tails the Fox, and graphics and game-play optimized for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Sonic is sure to keep your Red Bull-fueled holiday video game marathons blasting away.

Tony Parker Shoots Virtual Hoops

Tony ParkerSometimes we're so proud of Tony Parker for scoring Eva Longoria we totally forget the guy has a day job. In fact, he's so good at that job that EA sports showcased him at the release party of their latest title.

The San Antonio point guard was in New York Wednesday for the release of EA sports NBA Live '07. Tony discussed his love of video games and how, like many men, he has to wait till Eva is at work to play his video games. We feel your pain man.

The game is the latest in the series -- spawned in 1995 -- and this year's version is a sure to live up to the franchise. Innovative features like "Total Freestyle Control" which enable you to take control of your superstar's moves on the fly and the new A.I. system specifically designed for the next generation consoles, EA is taking the game to the next level. You can even play the big boss in "Advanced Dynasty" mode where you're the GM and you can recruit, trade and investigate rumors, all the while trying to create the ultimate chemistry of players while you battle your way to the playoffs.

So as long as Eva is busy playing a housewife, NBA star Tony Parker can keep up with his NBA Live '07 gaming and for that, he's living the dream.
