Now if only she'd quit rapping.

Beastie Boy Has 'Very Treatable' Cancer

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch took to YouTube this morning to announce he'll be having surgery next week on a "treatable" cancerous tumor in his salivary gland -- but is only calling it a "little bit of a setback."

Though the group had to cancel upcoming shows and is pushing back their new record release, Yauch promises "We'll be back doing it soon."

Beyonce's Dad Was Right -- Hoax, Hoax, Hoax!!!

BeyonceBeyonce has officially been cleared of all bad singing charges -- the atrocious supposed "board mix" of her performance on "The Today Show" last year was altered after all.

Just as Mathew Knowles told us, the audio clip that many people believed was leaked from "Today" was indeed a fake.

In fact, TMZ found the person behind the prank who was surprised it went as far as it did, saying, "It's a little bit crazy. No one in their right mind would sound like that, and no one would cheer for someone singing like that."

Apparently, the dude never went to an Ashlee Simpson concert...

Miley Won't Go Away That Easily

Repeat after us: Miley Cyrus is alive.

We clarify because some creep hacked into Miley's YouTube account this weekend and posted a video which read, "Miley died this morning after being hit by a drunk driver. She always told us if anything ever happened to her then tell her loyal fans first before the public. R.I.P Miley, we'll never forget you!" The weird message has been pulled down.

Miley was out about all weekend -- so once again -- she's very much not dead.

"Obama Girl" is Steppin' Out ... on Barack!

YouTube sensation Obama Girl has made the cover of Steppin' Out magazine, with Chaunce Hayden scoring an interview with the fickle pseudo-political hottie -- whose real name is Amber Lee Ettinger. Amber revealed to Chaunce that she's most likely voting for Hillary now! Not Obama's girl anymore!
Obama Girl
Sen. Obama himself lamented that he wishes she hadn't made that video, because his 6-year-old daughter was asking about it. The video has been watched over 3 million times.

Amber talked about a bunch of other things, but really, who cares? Just enjoy the view!

Binge Eating for Sanjaya

Our formerly starving MySpace friend "J" may have a little feud on her hands. It seems that while her fasting didn't work to get little Sanjy kicked off "Idol," another fellow is trying another curious tactic to keep Sanjy on the show.

Kevin Johnson has decided that he's going to binge eat until Malakar wins the crown. And thanks to the wonderful age of technology, he is posting video messages of his progress on YouTube to take us along for the journey.

If the people at votefortheworst.com and the binging boy have their way, the hula-dancing long-haired songbird will be here to stay.

YouTube: Give Us Your Best Beyonce

Think you can make a better music video than Beyonce? If so, then YouTube has the contest for you!

Fans of Ms. Knowles have until April 3 to create or recreate a Beyonce video, using any track from her album "B'Day." One lucky wannaB will win a pair of tickets to one of Beyonce's concerts and two backstage passes to meet the superstar. Better bust out that weave!

TMZ has already picked their favorite: Greg Scarnici from good 'ol NYC wigged out to recreate Beyonce's "Ring The Alarm," and it's hilarious!

Just When You Thought it Was Safe Underwater...

TMZ photogs strapped on scuba tanks and risked their lives to get underneath the fins of the hottest fish in the ocean! Wait'll ya see the size of those gills!

Not really. We've been spoofed on YouTube ... and it's pretty damn hilarious.

Googly-Eyed Press Looks at Yahoo! Askance

Terry SemmelNews Analysis: We can't help but notice the amazing - and mostly unfair - dogpile of bad press the sale of YouTube to Google has had on poor little Yahoo!

Indeed, despite being the world's largest website - with a meager 400 million unique users - Yahoo! is getting the tar beaten out of it in the press lately, and all because it's taking a bit of extra time before writing a check for a billion dollars, or roughly a quarter of all its free cash on hand.

Per the New York Times,

"Yahoo itself tried to buy YouTube just a few weeks ago and got as close as negotiating price and terms, according to an executive briefed on the discussions. But the talks broke down, and Google swooped in and closed the deal quickly, just as it has in several recent partnership negotiations. Indeed, many Internet executives are noting just how often Yahoo appears to be late and slow, both in its own business and in negotiations with other companies."

In the Wall Street Journal, coverage of the Facebook talks catagorizes Yahoo! slower pace a "failure."

On the surface, it's easy to see why: Google's fast, practically hell-for-leather acquisition of YouTube left News Corp. in the dust, and the media loves to see decisive action - not circumspection.

But hold on a second. That "failure" to close could have as much to do with Yahoo's dithering as with Facebook's intransigience. (The social networking start-up just made a three-year, $200 million ad revenue deal with Google, after all; it's hardly hurting for dough.)

Then, in today's Seattle Post Intelligencer of all places, come the most sagacious take we're read yet: Google's buy now, worry later approach has the eerie hallmarks of the late 1999's dot com boom cum bust.

Per the PI's John Cook,

"Google's big bet on YouTube this week gave hope to determined entrepreneurs everywhere that their unprofitable Internet ventures might one day turn into modern-day gold mines. And it caused some alarm that we have returned to an era in which companies are valued -- once again -- on 'eyeballs' rather than revenues."

Cook compares YouTube's hefty pricetag and strokes his beard about Zillow, the online real estate values website that causes me to burst into tears whenever I plug in addresses in my modest L.A. neighborhood. But Zillow's similarity to YouTube and Facebook gives me pause about whether Terry Semel isn't the smartest guy around (As Cook notes, both are banking on the shift of advertising dollars to the Web, and both sites allow consumers to search for information that was previously difficult or impossible to attain.)

Then I came across this piece in today's Guardian from the U.K.: A sub-headline reads, "100,000 videos under scrutiny," and with a lead that begins,

"Dick Parsons, the chairman and chief executive of Time Warner, fired a shot across the bows of Google, saying his group would pursue its copyright complaints against the video sharing site YouTube.com."

Suddenly, diligence doesn't seem like such a bad idea after all.

Chin up, Mr. Semel; your stock may be down 38% - but you're not out - yet.

Pee-Wee Herman on Crack -- "It Isn't Kids' Stuff"

Click to return to TMZ.comThe office of National Drug Control Policy has recently posted a dozen Public Service Announcements on YouTube. The government is hoping that kids will see them ... and just say no. Problem is -- no one's watching.

Never fear Uncle Sam, there is one video that is getting quite a buzz online. Specifically, Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) wants you to know that crack is wack. He shot the 30-second spot as part of a plea deal stemming from his infamous indecent exposure arrest in 1992.

The government's 12 new PSAs have garnered nearly 15,000 views total, while the Pee-Wee video, which is obviously not part of the new campaign, has almost 80,000. In the video Herman describes what crack actually is, and then warns that it "could kill you."

Seems to us that the NDCP should look into getting Paul Reubens to star in all of their new PSAs.

May the Colbert Be With You

Stephen ColbertPseudo-pundit Stephen Colbert has been having a field day with the Internet lately.

First Colbert got his legion of Colbertocrats to alter Wikipedia entries after he did so on the air. The offending entries were false and got Colbert's Wikipedia account locked. Then he threw his hat into ring of the naming of a Hungarian bridge via online poll easily overtaking early front runner Chuck Norris. Now he's taking aim at the Star Wars kid.

Standing against a green screen Colbert re-creates the famed swashbuckling light saber stylings of a young boys who's video became an internet phenomena. Colbert has challenged his fans to "re-mix" the footage not unlike the original Star Wars kids footage was "re-mixed" to include laser shots, enemies and other special effects.

The video has been released on YouTube.com for anyone looking to make Colbert the ultimate Sith warrior.

MTV's "Laguna" Trailer Is Latest YouTube Baby

Beyond its usual phalanx of promotional tools for the third season of "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County," which premiered last night, MTV also commissioned a faux cinematic trailer, entitled "Laguna Beach: Summer of Stupid," which debuted on TRL Wednesday and can also be seen in its entirety at lagunabeach.mtv.com. And its co-creators -- filmmakers Mike Dow and Ari Eisner -- are just the latest auteurs to use YouTube and the viral video phenomenon as a launch pad to bigger, fancier gigs.

Cleverly referencing the trailers for any number of teen horror flicks you may have seen -- "Scream," "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "The House of Wax," and so on -- "Summer of Stupid" preys upon the sometimes less-than-searing intellect displayed by the denizens of Laguna Beach, and uses a "voice-of-God"-like narrator, David Egan, to play up (and tweak) the highly familiar editing rhythms of the movie trailer form in the service of MTV's teens.

But for the Los Angeles-based Dow and Eisner, the pitch-perfect parody of "Laguna Beach" isn't the first time that the NYU film-school classmates have taken a certain well-known property and given it a snarky spin.
