A mysterious trip to L.A. by Al Gore now makes sense since TMZ broke the news of his daughter Kristin Gore's divorce.
Here's what we know: The former veep made a covert trip to LAX last weekend. Sources told TMZ details of Gore's Saturday arrival. He blew out of town early Monday.
We're told Gore made some sort of detour to L.A. He flew into the Southwest Airlines terminal -- which typically has regional flights -- picked up four bags of luggage, and left by limo. This was puzzling since the Nobel Prize winner rarely makes a move without alerting the media, and he didn't have any events scheduled in L.A.
But now it makes sense that Daddy Gore came to L.A. to comfort and counsel Kristin. She filed divorce papers on Friday, citing irreconcilable differences.

As if a movie based on a PowerPoint presentation wasn't boring enough, now "An Inconvenient Truth" will put audiences to sleep via opera music.
The legendary La Scala opera house in Milan plans to do an opera version of Al Gore's documentary during its 2011 season. Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli hopes the opera will help people see the world's environmental predicament from a fresh point of view.
We hear Act 1, "Carbon Footprint, Walk on By", is going to be awesome.

Green giant Al Gore makes a pretty penny off of his environmental speaking engagements. The former veep raked in around $100,000 for a recent 75-minute speaking engagement at the University of California, San Diego, reports thesmokinggun.com by way of the L.A. Times.
What did the Big Greenie require during his stay? Only first-class air travel for himself and one companion; $1,000 per day for incidental expenses; security guards; and an environmentally-conscious vehicle for all road travel. The prima donna vice president also demanded that there be no press, video or audio taping of his appearance, and that he have full approval over all banners, logos, and communications materials for the event.

Al Gore III, the 24-year-old son of Al Gore was arrested on suspicion of drug possession today. The former second-in-command's son was pulled over after allegedly driving his Prius 100 miles an hour down an Orange County freeway. (At least he was driving a Prius!) When deputies searched the car they found pot, along with Valium, Xanax, Vicodin and Adderall. He is currently being held at the Santa Ana Inmate Reception Center on $20,000 bail.
This isn't Gore III's first arrest. He was charged with marijuana possession in 2003 and was ticketed for reckless driving in 2000 and 2002.

Hillary Clinton's campaign put together a video to reveal the final choice for her campaign theme song -- and it's a "Sopranos" spoof.
Senator Clinton even convinced the former leader of the free world to appear in her vid. Those carrot sticks?!? Get that man an Oscar!
And wait ... is that Johnny Sack? He lives ... and he's a Democrat!
Take a look.

Meteorologically speaking, this weekend marks the official beginning of "June gloom" in Los Angeles, a period during which each day begins with a deep fog. But some celebs chose to get an early jump on the foggy phenomenon.
Kobe Bryant: During a week when Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James logged one of the greatest playoff performances in NBA history (as well as classiest post-game press conference), KB went public with his whining and clanged one off the respectability rim not once, or twice but ... oh hell, who's counting anymore? It all ended with Lakers owner Jerry Buss making time (before his annual vacation in Italy) to assure his star that all efforts will be made to turn the team into a contender again. And sure enough, rumors were flying at press time about a possible trade involving Indiana Pacer Jermaine O'Neal. But wait ... does Kobe really want to shack up with another guy named O'Neal? Doesn't he remember what happened last time, all of this week's Shaq rift denials notwithstanding?

Former Veep Al Gore seems to take issue with reports that he'll help Lindsay Lohan fight the media and clean up her image. The New York Post reported Lohan's proclamation, "Al Gore will help me. He came up to me last night and said he would be very happy to have a conversation with me."
According to Page Six, Lohan sent an e-mail to her friends and lawyers after a GQ magazine party, claiming Gore would come to her aid. TMZ contacted Gore's P.R. rep today who said, "I can confirm for you that Mr. Gore has only met Ms. Lohan once, very briefly, at the GQ Men of the Year dinner last week. There were hundreds of other guests." Not exactly what La Lohan told her buds. Slate printed what they say is a copy of the email.
Lohan, who has taken a beating in the press for her hard-partying ways, reportedly said in her e-mail, "Hilary (sic) Clinton, Bill Clinton....would be willing, if we just ask. If we just ASK." Well, TMZ asked the Ex Prez and the woman who wants to be the next Prez if they would offer Lindsay help, but their reps were mum on the subject of Lindsay.
So we then took it to Senator Barack Obama. We wondered if the senator, who may go head-to-head with Hillary in a White House run in 2008, had any advice as to whether Hillary should help Lindsay. The response: "I don't think we have any comment on that." When pressed, Obama's flack said "We're going to take a pass." Barack, we thought you weren't afraid to confront the tough issues!

A cable television network co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore is facing at least two lawsuits challenging its use of the name Current TV.
A Maryland company is suing in federal court in Cincinnati claiming trademark infringement. Minnesota Public Radio has made a similar complaint in a Minneapolis court.
"This is a straight-forward case of trademark infringement," according to briefs filed last month in U.S. District Court by Current Communications Group of Germantown, Md., a provider of broadband Internet services that relies on a Cincinnati company to help distribute its service.
Current Communications contends that it had registered several variations of "Current" trademarks before Current TV was introduced in April 2005.
Minnesota Public Radio claimed in a suit filed earlier this month that it applied to register "The Current" as a trademark four months before Gore's network changed its name to Current TV.
Gore's company bought Newsworld International, a 24-hour cable network, from Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in May 2004 and had planned to use the name "INdTV" and aim programming at 20-somethings, according to the Cincinnati lawsuit.
Current TV, based in San Francisco, features alternative news and "citizen journalism" pieces, many submitted by amateurs who send in video. According to its web site, viewers contribute about one-third of the station's content.
A message seeking comment from Current TV on the Cincinnati lawsuit was not immediately returned. Earlier, the company issued a statement in response to the MPR lawsuit saying more than 300 U.S. businesses use the word "current" in their name.
"We know of no consumers who confuse us with Minnesota Public Radio, and we can't imagine that anybody ever would," the statement said.

PARK CITY, Utah -- Al Gore is not all that comfortable being a star of the Sundance Film Festival. He's far more concerned that the celebrity watchers hear what he has to say.
The former vice president came to town for the premiere of "An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary chronicling what has become his crusade since losing the 2000 presidential election: Educating the masses that global warming is about to toast our ecology and our way of life.
Gore has been saying it for decades, since a college class in the 1960s convinced him that greenhouse gases from oil, coal and other carbon emissions were trapping the sun's heat in the atmosphere, resulting in a glacial meltdown that could flood much of the planet.
Americans have been hearing it for decades, wavering between belief and skepticism that it all may just be a natural part of Earth's cyclical warming and cooling phases.

PARK CITY, Utah -- Actors are directing. Singers are acting. Drama directors are making concert films. Former presidential rivals Al Gore and Ralph Nader are hitting the big screen.
And Hollywood's much-maligned system of rating movies stars in its own film.
The Sundance Film Festival, the country's foremost showcase for independent cinema, gets under way Thursday with an intriguing mix of role reversals among its cast.
Gore and Nader lead what's shaping up as a powerhouse year for documentaries, always a strong suit at Sundance. Director Davis Guggenheim's "An Inconvenient Truth" chronicles former Vice President Gore's dogged campaign to convince a reluctant society of fossil-fuel profiteers and consumers about the dangers of global warming.
Nader, viewed by critics as the spoiler whose campaign kept Gore out of the White House in the 2000 election, is the subject of Henriette Mantel and Stephen Skrovan's "An Unreasonable Man," a portrait of the crusader for consumer rights and safety.
