Not all "Idols" are treated the equally -- apparently some aren't even given a fighting chance, at least according to former contestant Carmen Rasmusen.
Rasmusen was on "Idol" back in 2 aught 3, going head to head (pun intended) with Clay Aiken. She told the Deseret News, most finalists were given "minimal voice coaching," but Clay's coach was on him like white on rice. To add insult to vocal injury, they had the same coach. Carmen says she threw a Hail Mary and hired her own coach, with pathetic results.
She went home in sixth place, to lead a life of obscurity and bitterness.

These days being a reality TV star is becoming a full-time job as former 'Survivor' and 'Real World' cast-offs make careers out of living their lives for all to see. These people will do anything and NBC is ready to cash in, casting a crew of these misfits in a three-episode arc of 'Fear Factor.'
Starting next Tuesday 'Survivor' Jonny Fairplay, 'Idol' rejects Anthony Fedorov and Carmen Rasmusen, Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin and Trishelle Cannatella of 'The Real World,' along with other "stars" from 'The Apprentice' and 'The Amazing Race,' will return to the small screen to compete for $150,000.
For those of you who want nothing more than to see these people dragged through the mud, look no further -- one of the stunts involves them crawling through an alligator infested swamp, covered from head to toe with filth.
'Reality Stars Fear Factor' premieres June 13 at 8:00 pm on NBC.

If 'American Idol' is a reality show, then the harsh reality is that most of the finalists struggle to pay their bills once their time in the sun is over. For Jim Verraros, his time "in the sun" proved to be ironic.
"Three months after I was on the 'American Idol' tour," says Verraros, "I was working in a tanning salon. I had to deal with people coming into the salon saying, 'Weren't you that dude on 'American Idol'?' I got through those kinds of hard experiences with music."
When 'American Idol' debuted in 2002, Verraros was one of the most recognizable finalists on the show, thanks in large part to his memorable audition in which he talked about having deaf parents.
"When I watch 'American Idol' now," Verarros tells TMZ, "I have to smirk because these contestants have no idea what they're getting themselves into."
A native of the Chicago area, Verraros went from being on the cover of TV Guide in 2002 to now performing at bridal expos. It's not exactly a cruise ship, but it's pretty close.
