Sharpton Spanks the Monkey Cartoon

The Reverend Al Sharpton is putting the smack down on the New York Post, suggesting racism could be a factor in a political cartoon featured in this morning's edition.

Al Sharpton
The cartoon (by Sean Delonas) comes in the wake of yesterday's national news story about the cop who shot and killed a rampaging chimp in Connecticut. But the controversy in the comic comes from the dialogue between the two officers -- which reads, "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

Before most of you woke up, Sharpton already fired off a statement saying, "The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

"Being that the stimulus bill has been the first legislative victory of President Barack Obama (the first African American president) and has become synonymous with him it is not a reach to wonder are they inferring that a monkey wrote the last bill?"

UPDATE: The editor-in-chief of the NY Post just released this statement: "The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist."

Ant Saves a Life

Ant the comedian is not always just about getting laughs ... and if you've seen his act, you know that's true! But the comedian recently received e-mails from a man who talked about his plans to take his own life. Ant to the rescue!
Ross the Intern and Ant
The e-mails revealed a man who has been dealing with weight, relationship, employment and sexual identity issues. The correspondence grabbed Ant's attention -- who responded by asking for a phone number -- no, not for a date! On Tuesday, while recording a "Talky Blog" with Ross the Intern, the pair called the distressed fan and gave him some emotional and genuine advice. "Reach out before you do anything crazy."

What they said struck a chord. The guy sent another e-mail to Ant after their conversation, promising to ask for help when he's feeling down and out, and saying that he now has hope. "I'm still at the bottom, but at least now I can see the light at the top."

All because a few celebs took the time to make a simple phone call. Not all stars are making news for clubbing, getting DUIs and forgetting their panties.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man

The word adorable is not exactly first to mind when you think of Marvel Comic's Wolverine or The Incredible Hulk. Marvel could now change that perception as our favorite superheroes could be getting the kiddie treatment.
Marvel Babies
At the 2006 Licensing Show, JimHillMedia.com snapped some pics of what can only be described as a disturbing trend to "infantize" current properties that probably shouldn't be (the "Bratz Babyz: The Movie" comes to mind). The show revealed the so-called "Marvel Babies" and soon comic icons could be donning diapers instead of tights.

Our concern is this: How will these toddlers interact with the rest of the world? Will they be saving the world like their adult counterparts? Or will these comics feature storylines at a pre-school overrun by evil where only a pint-sized Spider-Man can bring peace to the monkey bars?

God help the babysitter who gets stuck with these "super" kids.
