You would think the couple that tweets together, stays together -- but alas, it is not so. 
Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth posted matching Tweets last night announcing their breakup. The couple first met when they were partnered together during season six of "Dancing with the Stars."
One of them will probably drown their sorrows at the poker table, while the other will probably spend the day at the hair salon.

Derek Hough admitted he and Warren Sapp had a tussle on the set of "DWTS" -- but Derek explained to us how he was able to pull off being a little guy and the bigger man at the same time.

There was an explosion of anger a few days ago on the "Dancing with the Stars" set.
Our sources say it all went down when the remaining professionals and celebs were rehearsing for the group dance that aired last night. Warren Sapp showed up several hours late for rehearsal. When Sapp finally arrived mid-rehearsal, he began complaining he was having a hard time following the routine.
Several dancers complained back that it was Warren's own fault for getting there late. At that point, Sapp snapped, throwing Derek Hough against the wall. Now get this -- all 97 pounds of Derek wouldn't back down.
We're told there was a stand-off in the dance room until they both cooled off and went back to rehearsing.
UPDATE: Derek tells TMZ, "This has been blown way out of proportion. Warren and I exchanged a few words at rehearsal that lasted seconds. The idea that Warren would do physical harm to me or anyone is outrageous. We've all become good friends during the season."

Shannon Elizabeth is harboring a killer! Well, not exactly. But her dog did kill a poor defenseless puppy.
Try to follow this one. Derek Hough's mom blogged that one of Shannon's four dogs killed her daughter Katherine's maltese teacup puppy. Shannon tried to make amends by giving Derek's sis a rescue "replacement" pup.
Turns out this is a big no-no in the animal activist world -- which Shannon should know, since she founded her own dog rescue org.
Now here's the kicker. Katherine Hough has 86'd the pup and given it to her "DWTS" sis Julianne. But Julianne can't keep the dog so she's looking for a new home on her own blog.
As they say ... screw the pooch.

In NY: Anne Hathaway gave paps the silent treatment, Abigail Breslin was swarmed for autographs, D-lister Kathy Griffin said she's never been to Casa Aramara, and Mario Lopez was asked about gettin' it on during the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Shiver me timbers!

Shannon Elizabeth doesn't think it was her fans or the judges that got her booted off -- but instead blamed her ousting on a "bigger force." And we know what it might be.
We're told the support staff at "DWTS" (think makeup and wardrobe) couldn't stand her diva ways. We're told everyone got worried when Cristian de la Fuente got injured because they figured that meant one more week of Shannon's bitchy attitude.
They were upset to see Derek finally go, but anything to get rid of Shannon.

Also in L.A.: A "willy" lovin' Sharon Osbourne, a potty humorous Brad Garrett, a thanks-for-saving-us-from-Phoebe-Price Mel B, and John Krasinski, who corrected a photog's egregious mistake.
In NY: Kylie Minogue shot down engagement rumors, Chikezie stayed mum on David Archuleta's nightmare dad and Pete Wentz said Ashlee Simpson will return to "SNL," hopefully "acid reflux"-free.

TMZ almost caught two members from "DWTS" yesterday outside of a tanning salon -- but turns out we only got Derek Hough.
At least our photog had the decency to warn him about it.
Priscilla Presley and the rest of the cast were asked about Elvis' ex-wife's botched injections and the secret choreographers used on the show.
The 62-year-old Scientolostar said she didn't even know what the photog was talking about -- and the rest weren't too thrilled with the line of questioning either.
