Angelina Jolie is gettin' her goodwill on in Iraq -- talking to families (some even larger than hers) who've been displaced by violence.

Jolie is touring the outskirts of Baghdad today on behalf of the UN Refugee Agency -- making it her third trip to the country.

"Bachelor" star Lt. Andy Baldwin is honorably serving his country -- by taking a dip in these swell little Nike square cut trunks! Thank you!

The Navy hunk was in Hawaii for his early morning swim. Stroke! He'll be competing in an "Iron Man" competition this weekend. Andy ships off to Iraq in January.
It must be lonely on the boats with all those sailors.

Globe-trotting, tattooed do-gooder, Angelina Jolie, swapped the tony Hamptons to visit war torn Iraq. The United Nations Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador is in Iraq visiting refugees displaced by the war, and will also visit US troops.

As reported by People, Jolie arrived in Iraq on Tuesday after visiting Syria on Monday. TMZ contacted the United Nations, who told us that Jolie was traveling sans entourage on her humanitarian mission.
The photo, from OK! Magazine, was sent in by the mother of a US Marine from Denver. It was taken today in Iraq.
The UN was responsible for travel arrangements, and said they wouldn't comment on security measures taken to protect Jolie. Travel arrangements for special ambassadors typically take two weeks to prepare, but in the case of Ange, the agency needed a whole month. Jolie will return to Damascus this evening, then back to Brad and their precious brood.

While Bono has received accolades from Republican (and Democrats, but that's expected) for his in depth knowledge of economics and world heath affairs, gained by first hand, on the ground experience as well as some obvious studying up on the issues. Politicians of all stripes are more than happy to get photo ops with a rock star, but it's easier for them when the rock star is informed to the level of St. Bono. And, there's no question that Bono's Bible approach to the poverty and AIDS issues made it easier to gain access to certain Republicans on Capitol Hill. Some say there is another reason Bono has been embraced by the White House and other national Republicans: his refusal to speak out on the Iraq war.

Indeed, Bono has had to address some behind the scenes sneers and snickering from the rock elite on his decision to stay silent on the issue. The singer has basically admitted to not talking about Iraq so he can continue to remain "non-partisan" in order to continue to lobby DC on behalf of "the world's poor." By any measure, he's been successful in the latter and for the most part, outside of a fund raising concert for Iraqi civilian refugees, has steered clear of the issue. He's had unprecedented access (for a rock star) to the President and gained quite a few fans in the White House. But, that cozy relationship may become a bit strained when the folks at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue see the video for U2's and Green Day's new take on the Skids' "The Saints Are Coming", which is part of a fund raising effort for the Gulf Coast region still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
During the video, now circulating on YouTube, the bands overlay images of both concert footage and scenes from New Orleans with some CNN-style news tickers announcing a imaginary headline saying "US Iraq Troops Redeployed to New Orleans." The obvious faux news ticker is being seen by some as a slam at not only the Administration's response to Katrina, but to the war in Iraq. Is there a suggestion here that had more of the troops been home they could have been used to rescue Katrina victims much sooner than they were?
I don't think the message is quite that literal. My guess is that what the bands, via this video, are trying to say is that if we can spend billions in "rebuilding" Iraq, the U.S. could have found the money and resources to get those people out earlier and bulk up the rebuilding effort, which in places like the 9th Ward of New Orleans is amazingly still lacking. Either interpretation is certain to rankle Bush loyalists who no doubt would rather have these guys just shut up and sing. Of course, with the way things are going these days some issues kind of speak for themselves - so the politicos might be quite happy with changing to the subject from actual reality to the machinations of rock stars.

Cher may have completed her seemingly never ending farewell tour last year, but she's not shying away from the limelight post musical retirement. The first big time single-named female pop star is lending her famous moniker to Operation-Helmet.org.
The non-partisan Operation-Helmet's stated goals are to provide free helmet upgrade kits to U.S. troops serving abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan. The kits are designed to increase safety and comfort for the soldiers in battlefield conditions.
To help get the message out, Cher will take to the airwaves on C-Span's 'Washington Journal' this Thursday morning. Cher will even appear in the building, where her late-husband Sonny Bono served as a California Congressman, when she appears with Operation-Helmet leaders to testify before a House Armed Services Subcommittee that same afternoon. Cher also took up the troops' cause by calling in at a very early hout to the C-Span show on Memorial Day weekend to endorse the helmet campaign.
This is not, of course, Cher's first attempt at comforting the troops. We all remember her famous video for "If I Could Turn Back Time" where she straddled a big gun turret aboard the battleship USS Missouri surrounded by all those Navy uniforms. Hopefully, Cher will wear more than a few strips of clothing when she appears before Congress this week.

ABC News co-anchor Bob Woodruff and a cameraman were seriously injured Sunday in an attack and explosion while reporting from Iraq.
The two journalists were traveling with U.S. and Iraqi troops near Taji, about 12 miles north of Baghdad, when an improvised explosive device went off, ABC News President David Westin said. Both suffered serious injuries and were taken into surgery at a U.S. military hospital in the area, the network said.
Both Woodruff and cameraman Doug Vogt were wearing body armor and helmets, the network said. The two had embedded with the 4th Infantry Division and traveling with an Iraqi Army unit. The U.S. military headquarters in Baghdad confirmed that the ABC News team was involved in an attack but declined to provide further details to The Associated Press. An official military statement was expected to be issued later Sunday.
Woodruff, 44, was named co-anchor of ABC News' "World News Tonight" with Elizabeth Vargas earlier this month after the death of Peter Jennings. In an unusual approach to evening news shows, one of the two co-anchors typically reports from the studio in New York while the other reports from the field, as Woodruff was doing in Iraq.
