John Rich and Jared Ashley can't settle their differences -- so now the cops are involved.
Rich turned himself in to the Metro Davidson County Criminal Justice Center in Nashville, Tenn. this afternoon to face misdemeanor charges of assault and harassment stemming from an alleged altercation between the two. Rich and Ashley have both filed civil lawsuits against each other -- Ashley sued Rich for the alleged assault, and Rich sued back for defamation.
Rich, in a statement released by his lawyers, claims that since he can't reach a settlement with Ashley, he'd rather defend himself "through the legal process to the fullest extent of the law." He says, "I trust that the truth will come out through the process of our American justice system and that I will be completely exonerated at the end of the day."

The dude who got his ass kicked by the guy from Big and Rich is finally fighting back -- 'cause even with a busted nose, he can still smell a payout.
Jerry Montano (ass-kickee) is suing the chaps off John Rich (ass-kicker) for that October beatdown in which the country singer turned Jerry's face into a swollen, gushing, bloody mess inside Rich's room at the Mondrian Hotel in L.A.
In the lawsuit, filed Monday in L.A. County Superior Court, Jerry claims that before the violence, he was warned by Rich's business manager that the star often became "extremely violent when drunk" -- but even with that warning, he decided to go back to the guy's hotel room anyway. While in the room, Jerry claims Rich became "increasingly violent and belligerent" over a girl -- and that's when all hell broke loose.
Now Jerry is suing for an undetermined amount for costs related to the "cuts, scrapes, permanent scarring, swelling, and bruising to his lips, jaw, face, teeth and nose." Montano told us last month that he wasn't going to press charges -- but Jerry didn't tell us he wasn't gonna charge for it.

The guy who took a beer bottle to the face from the lead singer of Big and Rich Friday morning says the whole thing started because -- surprise surprise -- Rich was stinking drunk.
TMZ spoke with Jerry Montano, who says he was boozin' with John Rich at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in West Hollywood late Thursday night -- when suddenly John became an angry drunk, and started randomly yelling, "F**k L.A.! How do you guys live here?!" Montano says John was still bitter from a fight he was in at an L.A. bar the night before.
Jerry says John wanted to leave the bar, and invited the group back to the rockstar's hotel room at the Mondrian. While in the room, Montano says Rich became an angry drunk and started to get violent -- throwing things around.
As Montano tried to leave the room around 4:00AM, he says he turned into a glass object Rich was swinging around the room. His nose basically exploded on impact. Paramedics and police were called to the scene.
Here's the kicker: Jerry says he refuses to press charges, chalking the whole thing up to a night where they both had a little too much to drink. And for the record, Jerry still says he's a fan.

Once the 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards were over last night, you'd think country rocker John Rich would hit up a cowboy bar and knock back a few beers with pals like Tim McGraw or Brooks & Dunn. Or...
... he could order up bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne, Grey Goose Vodka and Patron Silver Tequila with pals Lil' Jon and John Legend while chillin' in a VIP booth at the Playboy Club at Palms Casino Resort.
