Can you imagine putting your fate in the hands of Ron Burgundy -- because yesterday Will Ferrell performed his civic duty by showing up in the jury pool.

He wasn't talking about how the selection went on the way out, but we're told Will wasn't picked.

UPDATE: 6:27 PM ET So they started with 40 prospective jurors in the car vandalism case and they're down to 18 -- and Kobe's still in the running! Let's see if he blows it like last night.
Kobe Bryant just returned to the O.C. Courthouse after a lunch break and had nothing to say ... we were hoping for an answer to the burning question: Did he think his wife Vanessa could clear the metal detector with all that bling?

Kobe is a prospective juror in an auto vandalism case. What are the chances it's a Hummer?

Kobe Bryant lost on an L.A. Court last night, and he's rebounded in the O.C. today -- Kobe's on jury duty.

Kobe is at the Orange County Civil Courthouse in Santa Ana, waiting to be called for service. We got a pic of the famous Laker/former defendant clearing the metal detector. He was escorted into the building by Sheriff's deputies and taken to a private room near the Jury Assembly Room.
Now get this. Kobe is in a pool that has been assigned to a case. He'll be questioned and then the lawyers will decide if he's a true juror of their clients' peers. Will Kobe get picked?
Stay tuned ...

Martin Lawrence is back in court -- but this time he could be in charge of somebody else's fate!
The actor is reporting for jury duty at an LA court, and he's dressed for the occasion -- dude is rockin' a slick, dark suit.
We're told he's been extremely friendly, chatting it up with people in the hallways.
More as it comes...

In not so many words, comedian Steve Carell made it very clear that he's not a fan of our cameras.
"The Office" star was at a Los Angeles courthouse this afternoon doing his civil duty as a juror, when we asked if he had any words on Heath Ledger or any advice for Britney Spears. Though his mouth said "No thanks," his eyes said, "F**k off!"

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Lawyers allowed juror Fantasia Barrino, the 2004 "American Idol" winner, to leave a case in mid-deliberations after learning the singer had to attend a benefit concert in New York.
Barrino, a High Point native who now owns a home in southeast Charlotte, was chosen Wednesday to serve on a Mecklenburg County Superior Court jury in a motor vehicle negligence case.
"People recognized her right away," said Charles Keller, a court system administrator. "Jurors started coming up to her taking pictures with their camera phones and getting autographs."
Testimony took less than a day, and Judge W. David Lee sent jurors out to deliberate late Wednesday, Keller said. But when it became apparent that deliberations would continue into Thursday, lawyers agreed that Barrino was free to go.
Keller said he was among the court employees who had their picture snapped with the celebrity juror.
"She's just really nice, down to earth," he said. "Not at all what you'd expect."
Barrino, 21, was to attend the benefit concert on Thursday.
