Have Mercy -- Madonna Adoption Approved

MadonnaMadonna lost her husband, but just gained a kid -- as a Malawian court just ruled she can adopt a second child from the African country.

The court originally said Madge could not adopt 3-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James because she hadn't spent enough time in Malawi -- but have since decided that decision was based on outdated laws.

Madonna already has a son from the country, David, who she adopted in 2006.

The Material Girl's rep released this statement on her behalf: "I am ecstatic ... My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her."

Children's Org to Madonna: Leave the Kids Alone!

MadonnaMadonna's efforts to adopt another child are seriously under fire by a British organization that says she needs to ease up on the whole "give a kid a chance" thing.

According to a statement released by Save the Children UK, Madonna may be sending the wrong message by going through with her plans to adopt a second child from the poor African country, Malawi. A welfare official and a person involved in the adoption proceedings said the singer plans to adopt a 4-year-old girl.

The org believes Madonna's actions may unintentionally feed more interest into the criminal adoption industry in Malawi. Madonna faced criticism during the adoption of her son David Banda in 2008 after she allegedly circumvented the traditional two year waiting period by using her money and influence.

Some people may think buying people is wrong ... but everyone agrees that living with Madonna would be way worse.

Madonna on Her Adoption: "People Don't Know"

MadonnaIn an interview airing Wednesday and Thursday on "Today" and Wednesday on "Dateline NBC," Madonna tells Meredith Vieira in detail about her controversial adoption of David, a 1-year-old boy from Malawi.

When asked about the media coverage the story has received, Madonna said, "With all the chaos, pain and suffering in the world, the fact that my adoption of a child ...who was living in an orphanage, you know, was the number one story for a week in the world. To me, that says more about what...our inability to focus on the real problems. And our desire to have distractions and to be consumed with people's personal lives and gossip."

Madge's Baby Swarmed in South Africa

Madonna's adopted babyHe's only been Madonna's child for four days but David Banda is already experiencing the notoriety that comes with being a Prince of Pop.

The one-year old boy the Material Girl has been granted temporary custody of and three members of Madonna's staff, including a nanny, were swarmed by photographers as they prepared to board a flight from Johannesburg to London.

A statement from Liz Rosenberg, Madonna's publicist in New York, said the child was issued a passport and a visa Monday adding that Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie had now been granted interim custody of the child, who has a visa that allows him to travel with the couple.

Madonna's generosity towards David's home country of Malawi has fueled speculation that certain child protection regulations may have been swept aside for the singer. The law of the land requires the would-be parents to live in the African country for a year under the investigation of welfare officers before adoption.

Rosenberg confirmed David will be under the care of Madonna and Ritchie for 18 months and would be then evaluated by the courts of Malawi according to its customs before anything became permanent.
