Maria Shriver -- Look Matt, No Hands!

According to Matt Lauer, Maria Shriver finally moved out of the dangerous and illegal cell phone Dark Ages -- and texted him from her new "hands-free" device. This after her husband, Guv Arnold Schwarzenegger, promised "swift action" after seeing our footage of Maria illegally yapping away while driving in L.A.


Of course, she needed to use her hands to text -- let's just hope she wasn't driving when she did it.

Sharon Tate's Sis -- Polanski Didn't 'Rape'

Debra Tate -- the sister of Roman Polanski's second wife Sharon Tate -- doesn't want the director hauled back to the U.S. to be prosecuted.

Tate went on the "Today" show this morning, claiming Polanski wouldn't get a fair trial stateside for the rape of a then-13-year-old-girl back in 1977 -- because our "system is broken" -- and the matter would be better served in France ... whatever that means -- France can't prosecute him.

Tate added there's a difference between "rape and rape" -- and this was "a consensual matter."

Miss California -- More Pics to Come?

"Biblically correct" Miss California, Carrie Prejean, was just on "Today" -- where she said there could definitely be more racy photos on the way, as long as there are more photographers out there "willing to make an extra buck."


She also tried explaining the whole "windy day" excuse a bit more -- even dropping the dreaded Janet Jackson term "wardrobe malfunction." Oh Lawd.

Miss Cali Claims She Was 'Biblically Correct'

Sure, she alienated the gay and lesbian audience and probably lost the crown by saying "Marriage should only be between a man and a woman," but Miss USA loser Carrie Prejean has no regrets.


Matt Lauer gave Carrie a second chance to answer the controversial question this morning on "Today." Her answer: "The way that I answered might have been offensive ... but for me, it was being biblically correct."

He gave Britney Spears a hard time for driving with her son in her lap -- but Matt Lauer did something similar this weekend in New York, though he wasn't breaking the law.


TMZ cameras caught Lauer with wife Annette and son Thijs outside the Marc Jacobs store in SoHo on Saturday, with Lauer holding his son on his lap as his SUV took off. No car seat in sight.

Lauer: I Haven't Googled Panty-Free Britney

Don't accuse "Today" host Matt Lauer of ogling Britney Spears' hairless nether regions. Lauer went out of his way on this morning's show to claim he'd never seen the infamous shots of the new mom as she went sans underwear on a string of partying nights.

After talking with the folks from VH1's "Best Week Ever" about Britney, the topic changed to Madonna, but the married father-of-three steered the conversation back long enough to add, "Just for the record, I haven't seen the Britney pictures on the Internet."

Of course, Lauer doesn't need to. He had an up-close encounter with Spears this summer when she sat just across from him for a lengthy interview ... wearing a barely-there denim mini.

"Glib" Lauer Takes a Shot at Cruise

Matt Lauer joked on "Today" this morning that he received an invitation to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding in Italy this weekend. Yeah, right.

When asked if he'd gotten his invite, Matt said, "I did. It was addressed to 'Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt.'" Hehehe.

Last year, in a highly publicized interview, Lauer and Cruise got into it over the use of prescription drugs and psychiatry. Besides uttering Matt's name over and over again, Cruise also gave us the memorable line, "Don't be glib."

It's good to see that Matt and Tom have buried the hatchet... where it belongs.

'Tis The Season ... For Celeb Babies

Don't you think celebrities have enough to deal with over the holidays -- getting each other ridiculously expensive gifts, attending outrageously lavish galas, traveling incredibly long distances for vacation -- without having to deal with having a baby along the way?

Matt Lauer doesn't think so. The "Today" show co-host and his wife, Annette, will be having their third baby, a boy, at the end of November, it was reported today by Celebrity Baby Blog. (Lauer had told The New York Times back in August about his impending arrival.) Just this week, Heidi Klum told a German magazine that the due date for her third child was November 24 -- good thing that Germans don't generally celebrate Thanksgiving -- that would be a tough Turkey Day for Heidi.

A little later in the year, just before 2007, funnyman Will Ferrell and wife Viveca Paulin will welcome their second son, giving little Magnus a playmate. It might add a whole new level of complexity to the holidays but -- really -- won't it just be the greatest holiday gift ever? Maybe.

NBC Mum on Lauer's Marital Woes

NBC is extremely concerned over reports that Matt Lauer's wife filed for legal separation, and the network is doing everything in its power to stop the story from spreading.

Annette Roque Lauer, who married Matt eight years ago, filed a petition for legal separation last month, according to Rush & Molloy. The columnists say Lauer withdrew her petition, but sources inside the network are on red alert to manage the story. Indeed, one source at a rival broadcast network tells TMZ that NBC is deeply worried that a messy break-up, especially involving the couple's two kids -- and another on the way -- could damage Lauer's image as morning TV's golden boy. A rep for the couple told Rush & Molloy that the pair is "not divorcing." It's unclear why Lauer had a change of heart and withdrew her petition.

Jessica Hooks Up with John Mayer

If a secret hotel tryst is any indication, Jessica Simpson and John Mayer appear to be making sweet music together, despite past protestations to the contrary. TMZ spies spotted Simpson and Mayer at the tony Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills last week. There's been considerable buzz about the story, and several reports suggested that it couldn't be so. Now, other sources have come forward saying that TMZ is right on the money.

Here's how it went down: Mayer was the first to arrive at the hotel's bar, and he actually chatted up one of our spies and asked her upstairs to "talk." She declined. Not long after, Jessica arrived and made a beeline for her friend and musical collaborator Romeo Antonio, who was sitting at a table. When Antonio subsequently hit the boys' room, Mayer was there and asked if any romance existed between Antonio and Jessica. Apprised that there was not, Mayer then returned to the bar, talked to Simpson for about ten minutes, and then the two left the bar together and disappeared into an elevator. They were never seen again -- that night, at least.

Don't Mess with Brangelina

At least, that's the message after their bodyguard allegedly manhandled a photographer who was waiting for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie outside their hotel in Pune, India, where she's shooting scenes from the forthcoming film about slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. It all went down Saturday afternoon, according to the Associated Press, when Pitt and Jolie were leaving their hotel, the Le Meridien. A British photographer was trying to snap shots of the couple, and that's when their bodyguard reportedly attacked. He grabbed the photog by the neck and started yelling at him-and it was all caught on tape by Indian television. "I couldn't breathe. He had his fingers on my windpipe and he knew what he was doing," the photographer told the Hindustan Times. That'll teach him to mess with Brangelina, no doubt.

Moss Kicks Doherty Back into Rehab

Amid reports that his girlfriend Kate Moss was not happy with his drug-addled ways, Pete Doherty has entered rehab once again and called off the remainder of his British tour with his band Babyshambles. Photos surfaced of the singer looking, well, very disheveled the other night, and reports said that he had been kicked out of Moss's house half-naked at 3:30 in the morning after the two got in a huge fight. Here's hoping that this latest round of rehab will finally set Doherty's ship straight.

Matt Lauer and Wife Flip-Flop on Divorce

So are they or aren't they? As they await their third child together, Matt Lauer and his wife Annette are trying to keep their marriage from dissolving completely.

On Sept. 13, Annette Roque filed a petition in Manhattan Supreme Court seeking a split from her husband, but, according to Rush & Molloy, the former model is withdrawing the petition, and a rep for the couple says today that they're "not getting divorced." Last spring, the Lauers separated, then reconciled. It is unclear when the Lauers will welcome their impending arrival.

K-Fed To Get $10 Million After Split

If you were K-Fed, would you be taking care of the babies? Page Six reports today that Kevin Federline's walk-away package, in the event that he and wife Britney Spears ever split up, is $10 million – much more than has ever been reported. "Britney was leaving Kevin but then got pregnant again," according to a "frustrated family friend." He would have gotten his $10 mil – but has apparently stuck around at least to reap the professional fringe benefits of his rather more famous wife, like cameo appearances on a TV show and a rap album.

Tori Preggers -- Will It Fix Feud With Candy?

Tori Spelling, as many had suspected, is pregnant with her first child, and according to several reports today, she's three months into bringing baby along.

But it's still too early to tell whether the impending arrival will have any warming effect on the glacial rift between Tori and her mother Candy, who have had a very public tiff over the past year over everything from Tori's wedding to her inheritance to a tribute to her late father Aaron at the Emmy Awards.

According to People, the former "Beverly Hills 90210" star already plays stepmom to her husband Dean McDermott's 8-year-old son by ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace. McDermott also has a 1-year-old adopted daughter with Eustace. A friend of the couple says, "They're so excited."

Did ABC Pay $1 Mil For Babwa's Irwin Interview?

Barbara Walters' interview last week with Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's widow Terri was a very big get for Walters and her network ABC – but at what price? According to Rush & Molloy, "sources inside and outside" ABC News are wondering whether a "licensing fee" that the network paid to the Irwin family of as much as $1 million is ethically acceptable. An ABC exec insists that the fee was more like "mid-six figures."

Still, a rep for ABC News says it's all on the up-and-up. "We do not pay for interviews. Period," says Jeff Schneider. "We paid a fair license fee for hours of exclusive material of Steve Irwin. Compensating rights-holders for their video is something that is a standard industry practice."

Though some ABC staffers were "taken aback" by the shell-out, Rush & Molloy also report that CBS offered even more for the same interview, which would have been done by Katie Couric. Even though CBS was willing to shell out a hard mil, the Aussies declined because Barbara Walters is better-known Down Under – because they get "The View."

Party Favors: "Lost" Is Found, Finally ... Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito To Wed ... Another Carrey Movie Kaput

The "Lost" boys and girls are finally back tonight, and the question that all the rabid fans of the show want answered, according to USA Today, is: Who are the Others, and what do they want with Jack? ... Actors Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito, who've kept their romance very much under the radar, are engaged, says People. The marriage will be the first for both ... Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz' much-hyped reunion flick, "A Little Game Without Consequence," has been shelved, says the Hollywood Reporter, making it the third movie in a row for Carrey to stall or shut down completely. Problems with the script are thought to be the culprit.
