Brett Favre used to be the king of Green Bay -- before he signed with the Packers' arch rivals -- now the legendary quarterback is using extra security just to get around the bitter town he left.
TMZ has learned the Minnesota Vikings beefed up their security for Favre's super-hyped up return to Lambeau Field yesterday -- even providing a special team of private security officers "specifically assigned" to protect Brett.
We spoke with a Vikings spokesperson who told us, "I can confirm that we did have extra security in place throughout the trip, including at the hotel Saturday night and at the stadium yesterday.
Taking the necessary precautions to protect our players on any road trip is always a priority of the team, and this situation was no exception."
Translation: A lot of people don't like Brett in Green Bay -- the city he played in for 16 years.
The Vikes protected Favre on the field too -- Brett threw 4 TDs as the Vikes crushed the Pack 38-26.

A sports bar owner in Minnesota just pissed away $750 on one of the most infamous pieces of non-sports related sports memorabilia in recent history -- a "Whizzinator" once owned by a former NFL running back.
For those unfamiliar -- the "Whiz" is a penis-shaped, urine-storing device used for cheating on a drug test. (Click here for a better explanation.)
But the particular "Whizzinator" that was snatched off the auction block Friday night has a history -- it was found on ex-Minnesota Vikings running back Onterrio Smith during an airport security search back in 2005.
According to TwinCities.com, the guy who bought the pee-shooter plans on displaying it in the bar for everyone to see.

Former Minnesota Vikings star Cris Carter had the chutzpah to try and bust out the Yiddish word "meshuggeneh" during some yente segment on ESPN earlier today -- only he totally misused the word ... and ended up looking like a total shmendrick.
TIP -- skip to 5:27 into the clip.
For the record ... meshuggeneh is not glue. It's a crazy person. Nosh on that.

Team officials have confirmed Brett Favre will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings.
The deal is reportedly worth between $10-12 million.
Favre, 39, has scheduled a presser for 6pm EST.
Story not developing ... just getting old...

Get out the BENGAY ... twice-retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre is reportedly about to be a Minnesota Viking.
Even though he's old enough to be an actual Viking, sources tell ESPN Favre will re-return to the gridiron once a physical is conducted by the Vikes.
Let the "Will he retire at the end of the season" talks begin again ... again.
