Can anyone at ESPN keep a job? The network suspended Bob Griese today for a racist remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
While he was calling Saturday's Minnesota-Ohio State game, Griese made a crack about Montoya saying he was "out having a taco." Montoya is Colombian.
ESPN is yanking Griese off the air for one week, and a rep for the network says Griese "understands the comment was inappropriate."
Yesterday ESPN fired baseball analyst Steve Phillips after news broke of his sex scandal with a production assistant.

This is why NASCAR fans call him Wild Thing...

Kyle Busch scored a victory in his hometown of Las Vegas Sunday, and celebrated by shelling out over $5,000 on 10 bottles of champagne at Body English in the Hard Rock.
And, from the looks of it, Kyle had no problem sharing the bubbly.

Tom Cruise and Keith Urban, the former and current husbands of Nicole Kidman, came face-to-face during the driver's meeting today at the Daytona 500, according to TMZ spies.

Cruise, who's at the NASCAR event to drive the race's pace car, and Urban, who's playing a concert at the race, squared off -- you would think to talk about the whole wife swap thing.
But our spies say the country singer and Scientolostar shook hands and had a few laughs -- probably about sharing a bed with Nicole and treating the inevitable frostbite that comes after such a risky move.
And ain't this sweet -- Connor went up to chew the fat with Keith.

According to Ricky Bobby, if you ain't first, you're last -- and according to our camera guy, if you're in 9th place -- like Jeff Gordon -- you're as good as retired.
Even though he was in town to attend a Pepsi 500 event, our guy had the stones to ask Jeff about life after NASCAR in front of his wife. Oops.
A few hours later, we got a shot at redemption at Madeo, where Jeff decided to heckle our guy for all that retirement talk earlier in the day -- unfortunately, it was a totally different photog!
Afterwards, Gordon high-tailed it over to the Avalalon, where our spies say he was all about the PDA -- making out with his wife throughout the party. Then, he finally retired ... for the evening.

NASCAR officials have confirmed that the husband of International Speedway Corp. President Lesa France Kennedy, plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Kennedy, died today when a plane he was piloting crashed in Florida.

Fire Chief Gerard Ransom of Sanford, Fla. has confirmed at least four other passengers were killed -- including two children.
Kennedy was piloting the twin-engine Cessna 310 aircraft when it went down about 8:40 AM ET. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Daytona International Airport.

Jessica Alba was forced to make an appearance at the Coca Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., this weekend. The "Fantastic Four" hottie was separated from the great unwashed by a chain link fence. Don't feed the animals!

In case you care, Casey Mears won the race in a Chevy.

The Super Bowl isn't the only sporting event that features the best in advertising. The Daytona 500, known as "The Great American Race," airs this Sunday on FOX, and several big advertisers are breaking out new, NASCAR-themed commercials.
Last year's Daytona 500 drew 37 million viewers, causing this year's 30-second spots this year to cost as much as $500,000! Allstate, DirecTV, Oreos and Sunoco are just four of the companies launching new ads.
In the Allstate spot, racing heartthrob Kasey Kahne is stopped by a female police officer who is more interested in checking out his rear end than in giving him a ticket.

We know him as Reese, the bullying dimwit older brother on Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle," but it seems Justin Berfield is no dummy. He's now on the fast track to become a Hollywood mogul.
The 21-year-old is stepping behind the camera to produce feature films and television projects through his own production company, J2TV/J2 Pictures. He's got two films slated, "Captain Trips: A Biography of Jerry Garcia," the first authorized biography of the legendary Grateful Dead guitarist, and the Jessica Simpson vehicle, "Blonde Ambition."
Berfield is also developing a challenge-based reality series featuring legendary NASCAR driver Richard Petty. Justin also owns ten residential and commercial properties in the Los Angeles area, including Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's former home from MTV's "Newlyweds."
Not bad for 21.
