Letterman Denies Wife Gave Him the Boot

David LettermanDavid Letterman's people made a bold statement this weekend -- not every supermarket tabloid story about Dave's marriage is true.

One of Dave's reps flatly denied a recent report in the National Enquirer, which explained how Dave's wife threw him out of their Westchester mansion -- over that whole affair/extortion thing -- and is now living in a loft in Manhattan.

Letterman's rep tells the Daily News, "The National Enquirer has it wrong."

Whatever. That alien is totally pregnant with Elvis' love child.

Brooke Shields Scores Settlement

Brooke ShieldsBrooke Shields has settled her beef with The National Enquirer.

A few weeks back, a freelance reporter working for the tabloid checked Shields' mother out of her nursing home. According to Shields, her mother, who suffers from dementia, was driven around in an attempt to find a "story." It was disgusting then, and it still seems disgusting now.

The mag responded to these allegations of gross abuse by claiming the reporter had been a friend of Shields' mother for ten years and was merely helping her run some errands. Interesting ....

In the end, the Enquirer has agreed to apologize for the actions of its reporter and make a sizable donation to further research on dementia, reports People Magazine.

Shields: My Mom Was Victimized By Reporters

Brooke ShieldsBrooke Shields is claiming a reporter and a photog working for the National Enquirer checked out her 75-year-old mother from her nursing home in hopes of a good "tabloid story."

Teri Shields was signed out of her nursing home Thursday, and Brooke tells People that a reporter drove her mother around New Jersey in hopes of finding a good story. Brooke says her mother suffers from dementia, and claims her mom was allegedly tricked into leaving the facility after the journalist claimed they were friends.

Teri Shields was later found by police in a nearby restaurant, unharmed, having lunch with the reporter. The Enquirer claims the freelance reporter has known Teri for 10 years and was given permission by the facility to check her out.

No one was arrested and charges have not been filed.

Good Charlotte: Good Riddance?

graphic of a question mark We know about Joel Madden, but what's up with the rest of Good Charlotte? --David

Joel Madden of Good CharlotteYes, David, we do know the latest on Joel Madden's love life, but as far as his professional life is concerned, he and the band have been hard at work preparing for their next album. Titled "Good Morning Revival," they expect it to hit shelves around March 20.

Joel said they finished about 50 songs, realized they weren't what they thought they'd be, scratched them, and started all over again! Putting that much work into the album -- no doubt it'll be good!

Star Jones: Emotional and Stressed Out

Star and Al Reynolds threaten to sue the National EnquirerStar Jones has given the National Enquirer an ultimatum: either admit that a story calling her her marriage a "sham" is untrue, or prepare to do battle in court (and remember, Star is a lawyer).

Bob Chapman, the high-powered attorney who represents Star and Al, tells TMZ that the Enquirer's story that Al is gay and the marriage is falling apart is not true. Chapman insists, "They are happily married," adding that Star is "emotional and stressed out" over the story.

The article in question, published in this week's issue dated October 2, 2006, features the headline "Star Jones' Husband Walks Out!" In a demand letter to the Enquirer, Chapman writes the article is "false and defamatory" and has "caused them massive damage." The letter also states, "You have also chosen to state that Mr. Reynolds is gay. While Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds believe that everyone should be free to make their own choice concerning sexual preference and that there is nothing wrong with being gay, you have nonetheless chosen to falsely state that Mr. Reynolds is gay." Chapman also states that the Enquirer has done "grave damage to their reputations, both publicly and privately."

Brad Zeifman, a rep for the couple, issued the following statement to TMZ: "Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds have tried to handle these vicious lies and attempts at character assassination with quiet dignity for far too long...now they will pursue immediate legal action against anyone who makes false statements about their family."

In a recent interview with Jawn Murray of AOL's Black Voices, Star stressed, "I love my husband and he loves and respects me-period! People can say what they want, but Al and I share what I like to call an unbreakable bond." Star reminds the public that, "It's not easy being under such intense scrutiny by the media. All we're trying to do is live our lives as Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds."

A rep for the National Enquirer had no comment.

"Bell" Star Drops Cocaine Story Lawsuit

Lark Voorhies, the actress who played Lisa Turtle in TV's "Saved by the Bell," has dropped the lawsuit she filed against the National Enquirer. The suit alleged the Enquirer printed false accusations that she was addicted to cocaine. The article also quoted a "friend" of Voorhies' saying she has a "terrible drug problem" and was "bipolar."

Voorhies says the Enquirer article cost her several acting jobs, invaded her privacy and caused her "humiliation, embarrassment, hurt feelings, mental anguish and suffering."

TMZ spoke with celebrity attorney Cyrus J. Nownejadi, who represents Voorhies, who says "The allegations are untrue, and the matter has been resolved."

Lark has signed an exclusive contract to interview with Inside Edition discussing the allegations. She will also be featured in a "Child Star Confidential" on E! Entertainment television.

National Enquirer Sabotage?

Composite of Britney, Kevin Federline and Kate Hudson
Is someone trying to sabotage the National Enquirer? Apparently, the tabloid thinks that's precisely what's going down.

In the last few days, Britney Spears and Kate Hudson both got their pound of flesh from the National Enquirer, well not exactly. They got apologies from the UK National Enquirer. The paper retracted its story that Britney was ready to divorce K-Fed and issued an apology. Ditto Kate Hudson -- the paper retracted it's story that Kate was dangerously thin.
