Orlando Returns to Scene of the Crime

The day after jewel thieves scored a $500,000 hit at his Hollywood Hills home, Orlando Bloom returned to L.A. to assess the damage.

Orlando Bloom

Just after landing at LAX yesterday afternoon, Orlando said all things considered, he's a pretty lucky fellow.

It's good to be rich, isn't it?

DJ AM? More Like DJ EM!

graphic of a question markIs this the same Elliot Mintz that used to be a DJ in the '60s?

Elliot MintzYou may have just dated yourself, Chris! Yes, the Elliot Mintz of today is the same as the Elliot Mintz of the 60's. He used to DJ for KPPC, the underground rock station straight from Pasadena. Mintz can also list the legendary John Lennon as one of his PR clients and personal friends. He worked for nine different radio stations over a ten year period as a disc jockey and radio host. He interviewed over 2,000 people and was the entertainment correspondent for Eyewitness News on KABC in Los Angeles. He is an award-winning journalist, has represented more than 40 clients and currently represents roughly ten individuals whom he chooses not to name.

Of course we know that this bachelor is also the publicist and go-to man for none other than Paris Hilton -- and was quoted in a recent NY Times profile as saying he adores Paris.

Captain Jack Gives Back

Click to return to TMZ.comAfter filming scenes for the third entry to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, everyone's favorite swashbuckler took time to meet and greet his fans.

While co-star Orlando Bloom tends to duck out of the fanfare, Johnny Depp has continually shown his appreciation for the people who've made "Pirates" one of the strongest box-office beasts.

As filming continues in the Redondo Beach area of Southern California, Jack Sparrow's ship, The Black Pearl, has been spotted floating off the shores, lit by torches at night.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End" hits theaters May 2007.

Brad & Angelina Incite Flashers

The most buff couple in Hollywood hit Julian's, a Los Angeles art gallery, for the opening of a new photography exhibit. While the couple focused on photographs inside, they were being photographed by a swarm of paparazzi outside the gallery.

Katharine McPhee
It seems as if Katharine McPhee has performed "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" more than Judy Garland herself. From "The View" to "Regis and Kelly," it's been Rainbow, Rainbow, Rainbow. So how on earth does McPhee get on MTV? TMZ created a "Rainbow" music video befitting the hippest music channel.

Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie friends devised a clever if ineffective way to shield their famous friends from the paparazzi. We call this video "Boy ON the Hood."

Everyone's Favorite Pirate is Back!

Captain Jack Sparrow, a.k.a. Johnny Depp, disembarked from his modern day Black Pearl Wednesday in Palos Verdes, Calif.
Click here to return to TMZ.com
Depp was back in costume - wig, eyeliner, dreadlocks and puffy shirt- to continue filming parts of "Pirates of the Caribbean 3." The Oscar-nominated actor boarded a small transfer boat and made his way to the real (at least real onscreen) Black Pearl, currently anchored off the coast.

But not all of the movie is being filmed in the water, they have also recreated the famous ship on a Disney sound stage just beyond the Hollywood Hills in Burbank.

You're just going to have to be patient, however, to get your Sparrow fix. The third installment doesn't hit theaters till May of 2007.

Depp and Bloom - Back in the Water

Click here to return to TMZ.comAfter cleaning up at the Teen Choice Awards, Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of pirates headed back to the Black Pearl after a summer hiatus from filming "Pirates of the Caribbean 3."

The cast of next year's sure-to-be box office hit are now back on the ship off the coast of Palos Verdes, Calif.

After filming wrapped for the day on Tuesday evening, Orlando Bloom made a quick escape by jumping in his car and heading out. While Johnny Depp, on the other hand, found time to say hi and take pictures with the dozens of fans waiting to see the actor through a chain link fence that borders the set.

It's pretty clear why Depp walked away with the two Choice Movie Actor awards on Sunday night in both the comedy and drama/action categories. On- and off the screen- Johnny seems to be everyone's favorite movie star.

Take THAT, Emmys!

What do the two most famously-snubbed Emmy contenders -- "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" -- have in common? They're both on ABC, of course. And apparently the net is so upset about those shows getting passed over (even though they scored more nods than any other broadcast network) that ABC is counter-programming the Emmy ceremony by airing "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, ABC will air the first "Pirates" film on August 27, while NBC will be airing the Emmys at the same time. ABC and USA paid in excess of $20 million for the right to broadcast the film that spawned the biggest movie of 2006.

Conan O'Brien, who is hosting this year's telecast, joked about the move in an interview on Monday.

"Yeah, I'm actually feeling like this is an attack on me," O'Brien said. "And so I'd like to announce that we're going to counterprogram with the second 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie. I've gotten Disney's permission to take my poor-quality bootleg and project it on a wall of the Shrine Auditorium sometime about mid-show. We're gonna wind up losing about 15 categories, but I feel like it's worth it."

Lawsuit Over "Pirates of the Caribbean"

Pirates of the CaribbeanA Hollywood screenwriter is suing pretty much everyone involved with "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl," the first installment of the now record-breaking "Pirates" series.

Royce Mathew claims in the 80s and 90s, he "created and wrote a number of original works including drawings, screenplays, outlines, blueprints, storyboards and other original materials...which he generally entitled "SNPM," standing for 'Super Natural Pirate Movie.'"

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ and filed in United States District Court, Central District of California, Royce alleges he created "various drawings depicting his pirate ship, which he named the Black Pearl, and an original design for a 'medallion,' both of which are are central elements of his screenplay." Royce says he registered the drawings and his screenplay with the U.S. Copyright Office.

Royce says the screenplay contained a blacksmith/swordsman named Will Turner, an eccentric pirate captain and a unique cursed crew whose curse was revealed only in the moonlight. Royce claims the daughter of a British governor named Elizabeth falls in love with Will Turner. In "Pirates of the Caribbean," Orlando Bloom plays Will Turner and Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth Swann, who falls in love with Will Turner.

"Pirates" Booty Proves Critics Don't Know Doody

Johnny Depp: Click to watchCaptain Jack Sparrow and his band of scurvy dogs sailed into theatres this weekend and invaded the box office for a record $132 million -- even if they didn't manage to plunder many plaudits from the critics.

In fact, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" proved once again this summer that taking a beating from the critics only heightens the chance that a movie's going to open big.  For instance, one of moviedom's most influential critics, Entertainment Weekly's Lisa Schwarzbaum, put the smackdown on "Pirates," calling it "a hellish contraption into which a ticket  holder is strapped, overstimulated but unsatisfied, and unable to disengage until the operator releases the restraining harness."  Schwarzbaum gave the film a dismal D+ -- and look what happened.

Depp & Knightley Kiss and Tell

In "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" Johnny and Keira's characters share a passionate kiss, but for one of them the experience was "unbelievably awkward."

Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, believes any film kiss is bound to be uncomfortable to shoot but this one more than most.

"Any kind of scene like that whenever you're doing that sort of thing, it's always unbelievably awkward especially having met Keira when she was 17 years old," he says, "but regardless of that it's always awkward so you kind of just make light of it; she was a good sport and we just kid of did what we had to do, that's the gig."

Of course Keira was a good sport, considering most 21 year-old women like her would love to be in the same situation.

"I couldn't ask for a better kissing scene with Johnny Depp actually, I think my 14 year-old self was yelping with pleasure," says Knightley of the experience. "It was fantastic! What more can a girl ask for? I've got Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and I get to kiss both of them. It's wonderful!"

And Knightley reveals that this lip-lock may not interfere with the relationship between Elizabeth Swann and Orlando's Will Turner, adding "it's not an ordinary kiss, it's a kiss with a twist, which is great."

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" opens in theaters July 7th.
