There's cancer, heart disease, AIDS, and ... did we mention cancer? But the American Medical Association has its scalpels out for that evil medical scourge -- Ricki Lake.
The AMA has issued a resolution slamming Ricki and her pet cause, midwife-aided home-birth baby delivery, as chronicled in her film The Business of Being Born. What's more, they're using Ricki as a tool to get laws passed that would mandate that the "safest setting" for birth is in the hospital ... where OB/GYNs get paid, of course.
Tori Spelling as a suspect mom, we get. But Ricki?

Jason Lewis was all about getting his spit all over our camera again -- and our photog couldn't be happier.
Also in NY: Ricki Lake couldn't control her laughter when asked about John Mayer, Helena Christensen got snubbed by an ageist and Dita Von Teese lamented her lost swan.
In LA: Deepak Chopra had some truly hilarious insight into Oprah Winfrey, Djimon Hounsou reacted to the most random compliment ever, Lindsay Lohan actually looked happy and Bai Ling was as spacey as ever.

Amy Poehler screamed "I'm a Red Sox fan!" to shocked Yankee supporters yesterday in New York -- at least she was in the safety of her car!
Also in NY: Natalie Portman walked a dog that didn't piss all over her, Steve Guttenberg was in need of a hot hookup, Jason Lewis swapped spit with our photog and Mariah Carey was her usual diva self.
In L.A.: Lindsay Lohan dodged questions about her slip from sobriety, P!nk was out in Malibu with her new dude, Paula Abdul ate out with Simon's girlfriend, Simon dined elsewhere, Reese Witherspoon was boxed in by the paps and Denise Richards thought our camera was actually filming her for her reality show.

Former trash talk show diva, Ricki Lake, underwent something she has never experienced before -- and we're not talkin' about home birthing!
She's no Lilo or Brit Brit, but this "Hairspray" veteran was hit with a full-on pap swarm -- and wasn't ready for it! Luckliy, she received assistance from a photog-fending security guard. Go Ricki, Go Ricki!

"Hairspray" and "Pink Flamingos" writer/director John Waters, and the original Tracy Turnblad, Ricki Lake, were at the Film Independent's Spirit Awards, where Ricki kinda gave everyone the bum's rush.
When you're a part of a cult classic -- you become immortal. Like John's mustache.

Ricki Lake and John Mayer were the rumored couple du jour (literally, one day) just a couple months ago. 'Memba them?
But that was an eternity ago, and even though Mayer supposedly was itching to wade into Ms. Lake, it looks like John was the one left all wet, if at all. We spotted Ricki in NYC the other night, and she gave us the lowdown on their alleged romance.

Former talk show queen Ricki Lake is all that -- and a bag of chips!
The svelte 39-year-old original plus-size "Hairspray" diva was looking super fine as she left Hollywood hotspots Cinespace and Katsuya on Thursday. Good morning, Baltimore!
Ricki recently lost (and kept off) over 125 pounds -- that takes an enormous amount of dedication!

With beau Tony Parker taking a break during the NBA Playoffs, Eva Longoria hit up Parc for dinner with friends last night. As she waited for her Beemer at the valet, our cameraman asked, "Are you excited about Tony going to the Finals?" To which Eva simply muttered, "Yes." Well she sure doesn't sound excited!
Paris Hilton, meanwhile, could barely make her way to an SUV waiting to whisk her away, what with all the photogs camped outside. The walk to the yard figures to be a lot calmer.
Over at Les Deux, we spotted "Dancing With the Stars" star Ian Ziering making the walk back to his ride all by his lonesome. He was tight-lipped about his upcoming vacation plans, but did say they included some motorcycle riding.
The night also included Ricki Lake, Jorge Garcia and Traci Bingham at a charity poker tournament -- which Jorge took down.

Who'd have thunk it? The latest issue of Us Weekly, with a swimsuit-clad Ricki Lake on the cover, was the third most popular story on the mag's website ever -- behind only Britney Spears shaving her head and the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Nice company to be in, Ricki!
"I f--king love the cover! It's amazing!" she told Usmagazine.com. "So many people from my past have come forward telling me how great I looked, and it has been an overwhelming response. I am thrilled with everything and love the way I look on the cover and in the magazine."
Just goes to show you: America loves a good weight loss story ... but just slightly less than a nervous breakdown and an accidental overdose.

The words "Ricki Lake" and "Vargas girl" aren't exactly synonymous. But the formerly flab-tastic Ricki, who's dropped well over 125 pounds since her days as Tracy Turnblad in the original "Hairspray," is looking so svelte -- and so fierce -- that she's gracing this week's cover of none other than Us magazine!
When she guest-hosted on "The View" last week, Ro & Co. couldn't stop gushing about Ricki's new look as she shilled for her natural-birth-themed documentary "The Business of Being Born," which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She looked so good, in fact, that sources tell us that three weekly glossies offered her covers within 48 hours.
Us ultimately won, and now we can finally reveal the goods -- check out Ricki in the red hot bathing suit. Snap!
Don't worry though, Lake's not forgetting where she came from. She's set to make a cameo in the John Travolta "Hairspray" remake this summer.

Of all the movies premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival next week, only one features Ricki Lake giving birth in a bathtub. If you're into that kinda thing.
"The Business of Being Born" -- a documentary on which Lake served as executive producer -- explores birthing practices in this country. For her own personal enjoyment, Lake filmed the birth of her second child in 2001, and later decided to include the footage in the film. Now you can enjoy it too.
"I am naked at 195 pounds giving birth in my own bathtub," Lake recently told The Huffington Post. "It can't get any more intimate than that!" And it shouldn't.

Ever notice how some of your favorite celebs lose more than just weight when they go on a health kick? Being healthy should definitely be a priority, but there's no doubt that sometimes jokes get bigger laughs when they come from bigger bodies.
