It won't be long before we're toiling away, serving our new robot masters. Why not make friends with a little robot now? That way, your new metal comrade can stick up for you when the robots start tossing humans in volcanoes for kicks.
The Tomy I-SOBOT could be that friend. With four modes of operation, including remote control, special action, voice command and programming mode, you can control your new best friend and teach the world that man and robot can live in harmony.
The fully articulated robot understands 10 voice commands, plays guitar and can be programmed to perform a sequence of up to 80 actions. One of those actions could rescue you from hot lava.

The culinary world has entered a galaxy far far away.
Japan will begin selling what is possibly the greatest spice dispenser ever created. The Star Wars pepper mill shaped like R2-D2 is available in two color schemes, the famous blue and white made famous in the George Lucas films and the black and gold R2-Q5, which may or may not be R2-D2's doppelganger.
Pre-orders are available now for the February 29th, 2008 release date.

Korea isn't happy with Japan's robot dominance.
In order to steal the robot-loving hearts of children everywhere, Korea's KornTech created the 3' robot, Rogun, which will not only entertain its human masters with a 7" LCD screen and the ability to walk on two feet -- it will alert its owners to an intruder -- via cell phone! Rogun will surely replace Fido. If our Korean-to-TMZ translation is correct, Rogun will only set you back $1 million.
Rogun's crowning achievement is its use of high-end face-tracking software to recognize the whole family. With all these improvements to wow the kids, don't be surprised when your spawn become pawns in the upcoming robot uprising.
You have been warned.

When it comes to robots, Japan is by far the leader, and they have more robots per television show then any other nation. It's safe to say, they are obsessed with their mechanical friends.
Now the Japanese have caught up with the Jetsons -- with their tea serving humanoid robot HRP-2. The Voltron-looking robot even does your dishes! Take that, Optimus Prime! The HRP-2 was part of a demonstration at the University of Tokyo, led by Professor Tomomasa Sato.
It won't be long before robots are our favorite celebrities. Watch out Tom Cruise!

Penguins are all the rage these days. Just look at the buzz generated from the documentary "March of the Penguins," and the upcoming animated feature "Happy Feet." It's pretty safe to say that penguins are the "Ninja Turtles" of the new millennium.
So, why stop at features and plush toys? Well, those forward thinkers over at Pioneer will be damned if they are going to sit on their butts and let this flightless bird fad pass them by without getting their piece of the pie. At CEATEC, an electronics trade show in Japan, Pioneer introduced a penguin that will help you become a better driver. Or at least we think that what it does. The Google Japanese to English translation is a bit confusing to say the least.
Actual abilities aside, the Penguin Robot driving thingy is sure to be as important as your GPS navigation device in the battle for dashboard supremacy. Who will emerge the victor? Our bets are on the penguin -- cute beats functional any day.

The "Roomba" robot vacuum has taken the place of pets in some homes. People have given them names and not only taken them into their homes, they've taken them into their hearts as well. The only problem -- til now -- has been the workshop or garage. The poor little robots just didn't have the power to clean up wood shavings after building spice racks and bird feeders.
Don't fret though, those geniuses over at iRobot have expanded their stable of floor cleaning robots and now feature the new iRobot Dirt Dog. This beefed up "Roomba" can pick up all the small nails, dirt, sawdust and small debris your craft projects can dish out. While the Dirt Dog is the same size and shape as the Roomba, the Dirt Dog has an updated bagless debris bin that is 40% larger than the Roomba's bin. The Dirt Dog also has specially designed brushes for cleaning rough surfaces. iRobot recommends that the Dirt Dog only be used on hard floors, shop carpets and industrial surfaces.
The Dirt Dog is compatible with most Roomba accessories, including the remote control, battery, virtual wall and self-charging home base.
The $129.99 Dirt Dog makes its debut on September 15th.
