Lawrence Taylor has a storied history of substance abuse, but Miami cops tell TMZ the NFL legend looked completely sober when he was arrested late last night.
Cops say despite his bloodshot eyes in the mugshot, Taylor -- who's been arrested twice on drug-related charges in the past -- was so coherent when he was arrested for hit-and-run last night , that officers didn't feel the need to perform a sobriety test.
As TMZ first reported, Taylor was busted after cops say he left the scene of a car accident. Cops believe Taylor hit another car and then a guard rail ... and then drove away from the scene.
We're told no one was injured.
Cops tell us when they found Taylor, he was standing outside of his car -- which was missing a front tire. The tire was found at the scene of the crash .. which means Taylor may have driven several miles on just the axle.
We're told Taylor was very cooperative when he was arrested -- he was eventually released on $500 bond.
UPDATE: We've learned Taylor was driving a white Cadillac Escalade and the vehicle he hit was a 1984 Ford van. Cops also tell us Taylor was arrested two miles from the crash scene ... where his front right tire was knocked off his car.

Well, yesterday leaving Crunch gym, he double-fisted protein shakes, introduced us to his "parents" and called his time with our photog his "favorite interview" ever.

For a guy who claims he's serious about staying sober -- why does recovering alcoholic A.J. McLean of the Backstreet Boys keep trekking back into the dangerously tempting Hollywood club scene!?!
Don't get us wrong, we're rooting for him to stay clean -- but for a guy who fell off the wagon just a couple of months ago (see: Key Club incident) -- maybe the bar he was at last night isn't the best place to kick it nowadays.
Remember the old saying -- when you play with fire, you get drunk.

Brian Littrell has seen two Backstreet Boys fall off the wagon recently -- AJ McLean and Nick Carter -- and the guy was serious when he told us they better "clean their act up" if they want to remain Backstreet Boys.
Thing is, Brian said he and the boys are hitting the studio tomorrow to start a new record... so he -- and his trusty new cast -- can knock some sense into 'em.

He might be sober, but Keith Urban still found something to wrap his lips around over the weekend... his wife Nicole Kidman!
Like two high school kids, the kissing couple were caught lip locking everywhere they could during a holiday in St. Bart's. Snog spots included a boat, the ocean and a restaurant.
Just like her ex-hubby Tom Cruise, it seems Nicole can't get enough of the PDA these days.

Lindsay Lohan may still be doing some hard partying, but it looks like she's on the water wagon.
La Lohan hit Hollywood club Teddy's this weekend, swilling water instead of booze.
According to her mother, partying Dina Lohan, the teen queen is taking her AA meetings seriously ... perhaps Linds can help Nicole Richie.
