Boogie Wonderland

Maybe you can sing or maybe you can dance. Can you do both at the same time?

The new EA game, Boogie, gives you a chance to show your friends that you can do both. Using Nintendo Wii's innovative controllers, you shake and move to the rhythm -- while singing along with the included microphone.

Versions of hit songs by The Jackson 5, Kool & the Gang, M.C. Hammer and our favorite TMZ train wreck, Britney Spears, will make your karaoke parties dance-tastic.

Practice, and perhaps you too can be a hit at the VMAs!

Nintendo -- Wiipping You into Shape

Nintendo's ongoing crusade to shrink the waistlines of Wii owners continues ... fat chance!

If Wii Sports wasn't helping you get your sweat on, Nintendo's latest game, Wii Fit, will surely help you work off those extra pounds. Wii Fit will come bundled with the Wii Balance Board. Players stand on the Balance Board and it measures their center of gravity, weight and Body Mass Index. The board acts as a controller for over 40 types of training activities and games included in the Wii Fit package.

Activities like aerobic exercise, yoga poses, muscle conditioning, ski jumping, soccer and dancing will get you into into shape faster than you can say, "Now you're playing with power!" Unfortunately, a launch date hasn't been set.

Now you have no excuse for not getting in shape, and Bai Ling will have no excuse for her dancing.

Summer of Simpsons

Homer XboxHomer, Bart and the rest of the Simpsons clan are making it a very yellow summer.

FOX and Microsoft are teaming up to promote "The Simpsons Movie" by offering fans the chance to win one of 100 limited-edition "Simpsons" Xbox 360 Pro consoles. The consoles can be had through a series of special events and promotions.

If you're not lucky enough to win the "Simpsons" console (doh!), don't fret. EA Games announced an upcoming "Simpsons" video game available on all the major consoles and handhelds. The game will follow the Simpsons' adventures when they realize that they have been licensed as a video game. So it's a video game about a video game with parodies of current and past video games. Mmmmm, slightly confusing video game plot.

It's turning out to be, in Comic Book Guy's own words, "The best summer, ever."

Letterman's Brainday

What do you give the hilarious talk show host who has everything? If you're Nintendo, you give him the mental training he needs to stay at the top of his game.
Letterman Gets Brain Age
For his 60th birthday (!), "The Late Show" star David Letterman got a special present from Nintendo -- a copy of the video game "Brain Age," and a Nintendo DS hand-held console on which to play it.

"Brain Age" works out your gray matter with a variety of brain-stimulating activities specially selected by Japanese neuroscientist Dr. Ryuta Kawashima -- including memorizing words that appear on screen, quickly performing simple math problems, reading classic literature as fast as possible, plus everyone's favorite number game, Sudoku.

Nintendo even sent Dave's mom a version of the game so they can see who's sharpest in the family. Expect a "Top Ten Reasons Why Dave's Mom Beat Him at Brain Age" soon.

Sonic Boom

Few video game characters have the staying power of Sonic the Hedgehog. After 15 years of super-speed coin grabbing, Sonic is still blasting past the competition, with his friend Shadow, and new character, Silver.

With Sonic's blistering speed, Shadow's ability to commandeer vehicles, and Silver's futuristic telekinetic power to pick up objects and hurl them at enemies, the heroes must band together to rescue Princess Elise, who is voiced by longtime Sonic fan, actress Lacey Chabert ("Party of Five," "Mean Girls").

With cameos by longtime sonic allies like Blaze the Cat and Tails the Fox, and graphics and game-play optimized for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Sonic is sure to keep your Red Bull-fueled holiday video game marathons blasting away.

Wii vs. PS3: Battle of the Consoles

Now that both next gen systems have hit stores, sucking hard-earned cash out of gamer wallets, let's take a look at the very different console launches.
PS3 / Wii
The PS3, with its cell processor and Blu-Ray, was created and marketed for the hardcore gamer. Gamers who flocked to the release of the $600 system were a bit more tenacious than retailers expected; stabbings, shootings, robberies and mini-riots plagued campout lines. Not exactly the welcome Sony expected. Most of those waiting in line were planning to sell the system on eBay for a quick buck; some sold as high as $2500, they're now selling for more reasonable $1200 on the auction site. Still a tidy profit (if you don't mind standing in the rain for three days).

Conversely, the Wii launch was a well-oiled machine. Most who waited in lines were guaranteed a Wii for $250, with chances of bodily harm remaining slim. A virtual love fest. In order to choose console recipients, raffle tickets were handed out to people in line, instead of the lunatic PS3 race for chairs that caused one gamer to receive a dislocated jaw -- the guy hung in there and got a PS3. Seriously dude, that's hardcore.

An unscientific poll of gamers (friends) and non-gamers (the rest of the TMZ staff) has the Wii on top, citing the wireless remote and lower cost as main factors.

The Newest $100 Million Blockbuster

Madden NFL 07"Invincible" took in $17 million at the box office last weekend -- a respectable opening, sure. But it's nothing compared to the more than $100 million dollars in sales the latest edition of the Madden football video game took in during its first week.

"Madden NFL 07," which was released on August 22, sold more than two million copies in its opening week, according to the game's publisher, Electronic Arts. The figure represents a 12% increase over last year.

To compare it to this year's Hollywood releases, only "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "The Da Vinci Code," "Superman Returns" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" made more than $100 million in their first seven days.
