Virgin America is suing a company that allegedly created a phony ad, making it look like Virgin was trying to profit from the US Airways crash.
According to the suit, filed yesterday in Federal court, Virgin claims Adrants Publishing posted an ad on its website, Adrants.com, showing a photo of the jet planted in the Hudson River, with the caption, "The Hudson Crash: Just One More Reason to Fly Virgin."
The suit claims a honcho at Adrants said, "We've seen Virgin turn ugly situations to its advantage before, making it [the fake advertisement] very much in keeping with the Virgin brand persona. The only thing saving the tribute from being in terrifically bad taste is the fact that no one lost his or her life in the crash. So woot! -- slather your big reds all over those news shots, V."
Virgin says the ad damages its good name and is suing for, among other things, defamation.
Adrants maintains it was all just a spoof.
We spoke Adrants, they say they didn't create the ad, they just posted it on their site after someone sent it to them.

The new off-Broadway production "My First Time" -- a play about people sharing their tales of de-virgination -- is offering free tickets to anyone who doesn't have such a tale. Being socially awkward with the opposite sex does have its advantages!
Opening on July 28, the play is based on an old website where people anonymously submitted stories about their first time. How will the box office figure out who's "done it" and who hasn't? They're using a mind reader/psychic hypnotist.
Undressing someone with your eyes is one thing, but checking their virginity with your mind? That's f**ked.

Richard Branson has unveiled images of his upcoming Virgin Galactic spaceliners and we have only one word for these spaceships: swanky.
The specially-outfitted SpaceShipTwo vehicles are designed to seat six passengers and two pilots. The craft will be hauled into launch position by a massive carrier craft called the WhiteKnightTwo. 
For $200,000 you can buy a ticket for the two and a half hour flight and soar 68 miles above Earth. No word on whether or not you get to keep your space uniform as the ultimate souvenir or what type of meals will be served.
Fortunately for those of us who don't have wads of cash lying around, Virgin is in talks with the BBC and ITV over a proposed "Astronaut Idol"-type show. Six contestants from around the world will compete for a spot on SpaceShipTwo.
The only problem we can foresee is what to do if they lose your luggage??
