One of the women at the center of the David Letterman alleged extortion case is Stephanie Birkitt, his former assistant -- according to the search warrant obtained by FOX 5 New York. And, the warrant says, Birkitt was the suspect's girlfriend and we've learned she was living with him until recently.

According to the warrant, the suspect, "48 Hours" producer Robert "Joe" Halderman, sent Letterman a package which allegedly included treatments for a screenplay with supporting materials.
The warrant goes on to say the "supporting materials" included copies of parts of a diary and correspondence belonging to Birkitt.
Halderman allegedly sent more documents, including letters, emails and photos.
On September 23, Halderman allegedly told undercover cops he wouldn't make the diary public if Letterman anted up $2 million.
Letterman acknowledged on his show last night he had sexual relations with female members of his staff.
Birkett has been a regular on Letterman's show (see video).

Randy and Evi Quaid know how to drive a hard bargain ... because we've learned they still haven't paid the bill for which they're being prosecuted.
Sources connected with the case tell TMZ the $5,546.96 the Quaids sent the San Ysidro Ranch to settle the bill they skipped out on isn't the full payment -- not by a long shot.
We're told the Quaids still owe another $5,000. And get this -- we're told Evi called the Ranch and said she and Randy would only pay the balance if they call off the dogs -- i.e., they wouldn't press charges.

UPDATE: Stump was released on bail around 4:30am.

The ex-front man of the band Warrant is going to jail -- and all because he decided to drive drunk in Hollywood.
Jani Lane will spend two mandatory days behind bars after pleading no contest to one count of misdemeanor DUI stemming from an incident where he hit a parked car back in June.
As part of Jani's plea deal -- in which authorities agreed to drop a hit-and-run charge -- Lane will serve 36 months probation, complete 3 months in alcohol education classes and report for 30 days of Caltrans road work.
Jani also has to pay more than $395 in fines -- but there's a catch. If he doesn't wanna fork over the cash, Jani can opt to serve 13 additional days in jail instead.
Decisions .... decisions ....

The 45-year-old singer was busted on June 17th when he allegedly hit a parked car in Los Angeles. Lane refused to take a sobriety test.
If convicted, Lane could get 6 months in the slammer and a $1,000 fine.
He's set to be arraigned today.

The lawyer for the doctor who was at Michael Jackson's home the day he died tells TMZ he did not give Jackson OxyContin or Demerol that day, but he wouldn't say the same about the powerful anesthesia found at the singer's home.
Dr. Conrad Murray was interviewed by LAPD detectives a week ago Saturday. Law enforcement sources tell us the information Dr. Murray gave police regarding drugs at Jackson's home was enough for cops to secure a search warrant from a judge. A search warrant can only be issued if there is probable cause to believe a crime has been committed.
Law enforcement sources say when police searched the home, they found the powerful anesthesia Propofol. The drug was specifically labeled Propofol and there was no indication it had been prescribed to anyone.
Edward Chernoff reiterated to us his client did not administer Demerol or OxyContin to Jackson the day he died. But Chernoff would not take the same stand on Propofol. Chernoff told us, "I have no statement on whether the Dr. prescribed or administered Propofol."
Chernoff added, "We're confident whatever the doctor prescribed did not kill Michael Jackson."
As we reported last week, cops obtained a search warrant the day after Jackson died. A second warrant was issued two days after Dr. Murray's interview -- that's the one that led cops to the Propofol. The second warrant may have been necessary if the first warrant only covered prescription medications.
The LAPD and the DEA are on the hunt to determine how the Propofol ended up in Jackson's home. The drug should never be administered outside a hospital.
UPDATE: A spokesman for attorney Ed Chernoff just called to say when Chernoff spoke with TMZ last night "He was not conscious. He had just woken up and he can't speak for anything that was in the home."
In fact, it was just after midnight Houston time when we spoke with him. We were on the phone with Chernoff for nearly 20 minutes. He repeated multiple times that he had no comment regarding the Propofol. Aside from the comments we quoted above, Chernoff said, "I have no comment on whether the doctor administered Propofol." He also said, "I can't deny or admit what the doctor might have prescribed." He also said "I can't say if the doctor gave him Propofol."
Chernoff went on to talk about the LAPD investigation, sounding very alert and choosing his words carefully: "When all the results come in, the truth will come out and the correct result will be obtained." He also asked questions about what we knew regarding which drug may have killed Michael Jackson.

The Accused -- Jani Lane ... that singer dude from the '90s hair band Warrant.
The Debt -- $121,024
The Story -- The Detroit News dug up an IRS record stating Lane, the guy who sang "Cherry Pie" back in 1990, failed to pay federal income taxes for seven years ... that's seven years longer than the amount of time this guy was making money as a rock star.
Lane was busted earlier this week for suspicion of DUI in California.

The warrant issued for Lindsay Lohan's arrest was just recalled.
Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, made quick work of it in a hearing that lasted minutes. S.C.H. showed proof of compliance and that was that. Lindsay didn't show.
Lohan will enroll in a new alcohol education program -- apparently she had "personality conflicts" with her old one -- and will be back in court to prove it on April 3.
So much for those bogus stories that the hearing was about a driver's license...

We know more now about Lindsay Lohan's court appearance and why there's a warrant out for her arrest.
The alcohol ed program director told the court Lindsay missed three days of classes in a 21-day period. But we're told the argument is that two of the absences were excused. That leaves one, and as we've already reported Lindsay's excuse for being a no show was the paparazzi made it impossible for her.
Lindsay's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, will be arriving shortly without her client.
Stay tuned.

We know exactly why Lindsay Lohan is being hauled into court Monday and it's no big deal -- probably.
Here's why an arrest warrant was issued. Lindsay was in an alcohol ed program for more than a year and was in full compliance with her probation. Sources say not too long ago she decided to switch programs. She either was late or missed one of the classes at the new program -- she says because the paparazzi made it impossible for her to show up on schedule. So the program director sounded the alarm last week to the court. And that's why the judge issued a warrant.
Based on what we know this is not a big deal and Lindsay's new lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, should be able to have the warrant 86'd -- no problemo. The only wild card: There's a new judge on the case and she's really tough.
We're told Lindsay will not show for the appearance unless the judge decides she wants her there.
Stay tuned.

Lindsay Lohan is technically a wanted woman, but it's unlikely she'll be arrested before her showdown in court tomorrow.
As we reported, a Beverly Hills judge issued the warrant Friday after honchos from the alcohol ed program claimed Lindsay wasn't complying with the terms of her probation. We're told the alleged violation is not about her using drugs or alcohol -- it's about enrollment in the program... something her new lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, calls a "misunderstanding."
Cops were called to Sam's home yesterday after Sam and Lindsay got in a nuclear argument. Police went to the door but Lindsay and Sam wouldn't open it. LAPD sources say they will not arrest Lindsay on the warrant, partly because of confusion over the manner in which it was issued.
Lindsay is in hiding now. She won't go near Bev Hills because cops there will arrest her if they find her.
We're told as of now she won't appear in court tomorrow morning. That will change if the judge demands her presence.
Stay tuned...

UPDATE: 4:22 PM ET All police units have left Sam's house, but her car is still in the driveway. We're told during their argument, Lindsay allegedly threw something and a window was broken.

UPDATE: 3:49 PM ET Three LAPD cops were knocking at the door, trying to get Lindsay and Sam to open it but they would not. One of the cops was pacing the property. The cops have left the front door but they're still in the area. One of the cars left the house but is parked up the street. Word is they may arrest Lindsay and take her to jail.
UPDATE 3:40 PM ET: The cops now tell us they were called for a disturbance and not there to arrest Lindsay.
Sam and Lindsay have gotten into a nuclear fight at Sam's house. The police are at their front door to talk to Lindsay and Sam but they will not open the door. The two are definitely still in the house.
We're told the police are trying to serve Lindsay her warrant.

A warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of one Lindsay Lohan.

The Beverly Hills PD says the warrant is for $50,000 and it was issued in connection with her DUI case back in 2007, for which she is on probation. The PD would not specifically say why they want Lohan, but we think it's a good bet it has something to do with violating the terms of probation ... either failing to attend her alcohol ed courses or, perhaps, not taking or failing a drug test.
The PD ominously says, "It is our hope that Ms. Lohan will surrender herself so that this matter can be resolved in a timely manner."
We asked Lindsay about the warrant last night as she left the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.
Lindsay is not armed but considered dangerous.
The story was first reported by Hollyscoop.com.
UPDATE 3:00 PM ET: We're told the Judge in the DUI case has set a hearing for Monday Morning. We understand the topic is whether Lindsay violated her probation. She may be required to appear. Stay tuned.
UPDATE 12:09 PM ET: Lohan just issued a statement to PerezHilton.com: "This warrant for my arrest is completely fabricated and its (sic) a horrendous lie. This will make me loose (sic) every single deal that I have right now. Its (sic) horrible."

Vegas police are on the lookout for rapper Mos Def over an alleged attack of a fashion event photographer in August.
Def -- real name Dante Terrell Smith -- faces charges of felony robbery and malicious destruction of private property and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Volker Corell -- an official photog for the Men's Apparel and Garment Industry Convention (MAGIC) in Las Vegas -- claims Def flipped out on him while he was taking photos of attendees at the event. Mos allegedly ripped Volker's camera off his neck, smashed it to the ground and then took off with the busted equipment.
Corell claims to have suffered a cut on his left hand during the alleged attack.
Def has a history of hating paparazzi, but Corell was a credentialed snapper for the event ... and get this: He says he didn't even know who Mos was until after the alleged attack.
