Donald Sutherland -- Allergic to Kiefer?

Donald Sutherland's publicist smells a rat! A rep for the Golden Globe-winning actor refused to allow him to be interviewed at the "Fool's Gold" junket last Friday -- after she got a whiff of cigarette smoke!

Donald has a "serious, serious" smoke allergy says the rep, and there are always strict guidelines in place to ensure he's not exposed to secondhand smoke. Just prior to Donald's arrival at the junket, some staff members had been puffin' away on the balcony -- and that just wasn't going to work.

Incidentally, Sutherland's son, "24" star Kiefer, is rarely seen without a cig. TMZ caught Donald hugging his smoky son last week, after Kiefer's release from jail. Perhaps he held his breath.

Sutherland's publicist had no comment on how he manages his extreme allergy around Kiefer.

Kiefer Still Doing Time -- And Laundry

TMZ has exclusively learned that Kiefer Sutherland will not be released early -- he's gotta do his full 48 days. He checked in on Dec. 5.

According to officer John Balian of the Glendale PD, Kiefer's not gonna get the Michelle Rodriguez treatment. His release date is scheduled for January 21.

Kiefer is still behaving well, and is considered an A+ type of inmate. He does not complain about anything and is still on laundry duty. He was never assigned to kitchen stuff.

Sutherland has not received visitors throughout his stay in jail -- no one came during the holidays -- or his birthday, but he gets tons of mail from fans all over the world.

Kiefer Cleans Up in the Clink

Kiefer Sutherland is airing a ton of dirty laundry behind bars -- but it's not what you think.

TMZ has learned that Sutherland is doing heavy laundry duty -- folding sheets, washing pillowcases, drying blankets, and so on. "He is still assigned to laundry duty and is now doing it on his own," Glendale PD PIO Officer John Balian tells us. Jack Bauer's got some new skills!

Kiefer Learns to Fluff & Fold!

After a little more than 24 hours, Kiefer Sutherland is adapting well to life behind bars. We're told he woke up around 8:00 AM this morning and ate his prison-issue breakfast. After that, he is scheduled for laundry duty. "We had a pretty busy night last night, so Kiefer will probably have a lot of laundry to do today," Glendale PD PIO John Balian tells TMZ. Um ... busy?

Lights, Camera ... Mugshot!

Kiefer Sutherland checked himself into jail yesterday and it looks like he brought his makeup artist along with him. Jack Bauer, is that you?

With more and more and more and more celebrities serving stints in jail, gone are the days of the Nick Nolte fresh-off-an-all-night-bender mugshot.

Officer, I'm ready for my closeup!

Starring ... Inmate #1085109!

Here is the booking photo of Kiefer Sutherland from the Glendale City Jail. The "24" star checked in tonight to do 48 days for a DUI conviction.

He'll spend his birthday, Christmas and New Years in the slammer.

As for what he brought with him to jail, we're told reading material and underwear. The jail, fortunately, does not provide unmentionables. Now you know.

Kiefer Is Currently Being Booked

UPDATE: Kiefer was just booked. He is officially an inmate. The booking records show he is 5'10", 150 lbs, blue eyes, blond hair, 40 years old. The arrest time (surrender) was 5:30 PM and he was booked 16 minutes later. According to Glendale PD PIO John Balian he will wear a standard issue orange jumpsuit.

TMZ is at the Glendale City Jail where Kiefer Sutherland is currently being processed. We're told he is wearing slacks and a collared shirt ... for now.

Jail officials tell us he will be searched, have a booking photo taken and be placed in a holding cell awaiting cell assignment. We're told he'll also be served dinner tonight. We hear the chicken ala king is the best!

He was scheduled to turn himself in on December 21, which happens to be his birthday. The plan was to serve when the show was on Christmas hiatus. But because of the writers strike and the fact that the show is on ice, Kiefer checked in earlier.

The Glendale City Jail has 96 beds and 48 cells. The cells are double occupancy -- 10 x 8. There's a toilet, washbasin, water fountain in each cell and a shower in the day room area.

When it comes to visitation, it won't be touchy-feely. All visitations are done on video between 1:00 and 4:00 PM for 15 minutes. A max of two visits per day are permitted.

TMZ spoke with Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams, who said Kiefer will be treated "just like anyone else," adding, "The fact that he's a celebrity -- he checked that at the door when he checked in." Chief Adams said Sutherland will perform laundry and kitchen duties and will serve the entire 48 days consecutively. The Chief said Kiefer will not share a cell, but that is S.O.P. in Glendeezy because all "long term inmates" get their own digs.

Adams also says Kiefer has been "cooperative."

Kiefer Sutherland Will Check Into Jail Tonight

Kiefer Sutherland is about to check in to Glendale, Calif. City Jail, after a judge gave the green light to serve at a facility other than the L.A. County Twin Towers.

His attorney, Blair Berk, has come and gone at the jail. We're expecting Kiefer at the jail shortly.

Kiefer will spend 48 days in jail, having plead to his second DUI.

Kiefer Wants to Go to Jail -- But Not County

TMZ has learned that Kiefer Sutherland is at an L.A. County Courthouse and the judge has agreed to let him serve his time at a jail run by the city of Glendale rather than the perilous Twin Towers county facility.

Sutherland will serve his 48 days at the Glendale City Jail. He must complete his sentence by the end of March. He then faces 60 months of informal probation -- meaning he doesn't have to see a probation officer, pay a fine, complete 18 months of an alcohol education program and undergo six months of weekly alcohol therapy sessions.

t makes lots of sense for Kiefer to choose a city jail. Sources say Twin Towers has become a nightmare of violence, and jailers cannot guarantee the safety of high-profile inmates.

The probable option if Sutherland chose Twin Towers is that he would be placed in "the hole" -- a solitary confinement area in which he would spend 23 hours a day alone.

This is not a typical "pay for stay" program. Rather, Kiefer will serve a regular county jail sentence through the City jail inmate worker program.
