Community Guidelines

Community Guidelines

We are thrilled to have you as part of the TMZ community! This is your place to discuss celebrity news, exclusive interviews, and other breaking developments.

We value diverse opinions, and we ask you to treat others with courtesy and respect. Personal attacks, discriminatory or obscene language, threats, and other types of inappropriate conduct are prohibited.

In addition, by being part of the TMZ community, you certify that you are at least 18 years old and agree to follow our Community Guidelines, the TMZ Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy. Not following these rules may lead to your comments being removed or even a permanent ban from engaging on TMZ.

As our platform grows, we may revisit and revise these Community Guidelines to ensure they accurately reflect the needs of our community.

Pick a Good Display Name

Our Community Guidelines extend to the creation and use of display name. Let your display name be a positive reflection of yourself within the TMZ community.

Since display names play a big role in how we interact with each other, TMZ has a higher standard for acceptable display names compared to other types of content.

For example, display names can't include:

  • Hate speech, such as slurs or negative statements about a group.
  • Harassment or insults aimed at yourself or others.
  • Sensitive personal information.
  • Profanity, such as curse words.
  • References to hard or recreational drugs, alcohol, or self-harming behavior.
  • References to sexual acts or anatomy.
  • Names of terrorist organizations, hate groups, violent extremists, or locations of well-known mass casualty events.

Please note that letter substitution, partial censoring, emojis, and other ways of obscuring unpermitted display names are still considered a violation of this policy.

Follow the Law

Piracy and Intellectual Property

All persons shall respect the intellectual property rights of others while interacting on TMZ. Users who repeatedly violate the intellectual property of others may have their accounts terminated.

Any unauthorized reproduction, distribution, modification, or display of TMZ content is strictly prohibited.

For example, you may not:

  • Reupload a TMZ exclusive interview on another video sharing platform.
  • Use TMZ's content in your own work without proper attribution or permission, presenting it as your own.
  • Promote or otherwise facilitate torrenting, piracy, or other methods of violating copyright of any rights holder.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act

If you are the rights holder or their legally authorized agent and you believe that content on TMZ infringes upon your copyright rights, see the Removal of Material that Infringes Copyrights section of TMZ's Terms of Use.

Illegal Activity

For the safety of our community, we prohibit users from engaging in illegal activity on TMZ. Content featuring, promoting, offering, or soliciting illegal activities may be reported to law enforcement.

For example, you may not:

  • Attempt to sell or distribute controlled substances, drugs, or weapons.
  • Engage in human trafficking.
  • Organize for the purpose of engaging in unlawful activity.
  • Promote terrorist or extremist groups.

Be Safe

Self-Destructive Behavior

In the interest of the safety of our community, content promoting, glorifying, or encouraging self-harm is strictly prohibited.

We invite thoughtful input on mental health while being mindful that such material can be triggering and dangerous to others.

For example, you may not [content warning]:

  • Instruct others on how to overdose, binge & purge, or engage in any other self-harming behavior.
  • Share or promote dangerous "challenges," including challenging others to ingest substances not fit for human consumption.

If you feel like you're struggling, know someone who might hurt themselves or others, or if someone is at immediate risk of suicide, please contact a professional with the resources and expertise to provide urgent support, such as a mental health hotline or local law enforcement.

Dial 988 on your mobile device if you or a loved one requires urgent help. The 988 hotline is available 24/7/365.

Threats, Violence, and Harm

We prohibit acts and threats of violence, including implied threats and threats that would not result in physical harm. Please note that this prohibition includes abuse directed at TMZ employees.

For example, you may not:

  • Promise to assault someone if you ever meet them in real life.
  • Ask for someone's address after exchanging insults with them.
  • Wish harm, injury, or death upon others or their loved ones.
  • Threaten or encourage hacking, doxing, or DDoSing others.
  • Threaten or promote sexual violence or exploitation.
  • Share or threaten to share sexually explicit or nude content of a person.
  • Distribute links to content depicting graphic violence, death, or gore.

When appropriate, we will escalate violent threats to law enforcement and indefinitely suspend the user.

Privacy and Sensitive Information

Disclosing sensitive information, whether yours or someone else's, can result in identity theft, financial loss, offline harassment, and other negative repercussions. For this reason, we prohibit sharing certain types of information.

For example, you may not:

  • Share full names of private or anonymous individuals.
  • Share email addresses, phone numbers, residential/school/work addresses, or banking information.
  • Share social security, passport, driver's license numbers, or other government-issued identification numbers.
  • Trick others into revealing their personal information by distributing IP grabbers or through other means.

Child and Youth Safety

TMZ strictly prohibits any content or activity that endangers minors (anyone under 18 years of age). This includes content that features, promotes, requests, or offers child abuse material (whether sexual or otherwise), sexual exploitation, sexual misconduct, or grooming of minors. We report illegal content of this nature to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a child protection organization that works with law enforcement agencies. Engaging in this activity will result in immediate and indefinite suspension from our platform.

For example, you may not [content warning]:

  • Request nude, sexually explicit, or sexually suggestive content of minors. This includes real-world, AI-generated, and animated content.
  • Engage in sexual conversations or other types of grooming, including asking a minor to move to other platforms for private conversations.
  • Distribute links to third-party sites that contain content forbidden by the Child and Youth Safety policy.

As a reminder, you must be at least 18 years old to comment on TMZ.

Respect Your Peers

Hateful Conduct

TMZ strives to welcome a community of users from diverse backgrounds.

Therefore, abuse based on age, race, ethnicity, caste, national origin, immigration status, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disabilities, severe illnesses, or veteran status is not allowed. This includes but is not limited to promoting discrimination, violence, or hatred towards individuals or groups based on these attributes.

For example, you may not:

  • Demean individual(s) based on race, ethnicity, gender, or other protected group characteristics listed above.
  • Share or promote negative stereotypes about a protected group.
  • Use hateful slurs.
  • Support or promote hate groups, including sharing their propaganda and symbols.

Harassment

We do not allow personal attacks, bullying, or unwelcome sexual remarks.

For example, you may not:

  • Insult others based on their appearance, intelligence, or other personal attributes.
  • Encourage others to harass a specific individual or group, including TMZ employees.
  • Derail conversations with hostile or inflammatory remarks.
  • Comment on someone's perceived sexual practices.
  • Ask someone to perform sexual acts or describe sexual acts in graphic detail.

Sexual content involving anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited and will be reported to law enforcement. See the Child and Youth Safety section of the Community Guidelines for more details.

Profanity

Curse words and other obscene language can detract from engaging discussions. To ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone, please refrain from using profanity.

For example, you may not:

  • Use expletives, even in a positive context.
  • Use obscene words and expressions related to anatomy or bodily functions.
  • Attempt to bypass this policy through letter substitution, partial censoring, emojis, or other means.

Be Ethical

Impersonation

Impersonating another individual or organization on TMZ undermines trust in our community, can mislead others, or harm the target of impersonation. Content or activity meant to maliciously impersonate others is not allowed.

For example, you may not:

  • Impersonate an actor or their authorized representative.
  • Impersonate TMZ employees.

Spam, Scams, and Other Malicious Conduct

Spam messages and deceptive communication practices result in negative experiences for everyone. Any activity that disrupts, harms, or undermines the integrity of TMZ services, these Community Guidelines, or interferes with another user's experience or device(s) is prohibited.

For example, you may not:

  • Share large amounts of repetitive, unwanted messages or advertisements.
  • Attempt to introduce viruses, bots, or other software that may interfere with, corrupt, slow, or otherwise alter permitted uses of TMZ.
  • Engage in phishing or attempt to defraud others in other ways.

Reporting Violations

The TMZ community counts on its members to maintain a safe and welcoming environment by flagging any content that could potentially breach our Community Guidelines.

Reporting a comment

You can report potential violations by clicking on the horizontal three-dot icon to the right of a display name.

"..." → "Flag as inappropriate" → Pick an option that best describes the violation.

Dedicated staff members will review your report and work as quickly as possible to remove violating content.

Blocking

Even if some content doesn't break our rules, you might still prefer not to see it. If this is the case, you can mute users posting such content by clicking on the horizontal three-dot icon to the right of a display name, then selecting "Block User."

Updates and Modifications

Our Community Guidelines are not set in stone and, over time as the community evolves, we may revisit and revise them.

It is your responsibility to stay informed about any changes. By continuing to participate in the community, you are acknowledging that you have reviewed and agree to any updates to these guidelines, as well as TMZ's Terms of Use.
