Liz @ 75: "Hangin' In"

2/28/2007 5:19 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Silver screen legend Elizabeth Taylor celebrated her 75th birthday in Las Vegas last night with a pair of magicians, Princess Leia and a former Sports Illustrated covergirl.

A fur and satin-wrapped, diamond and pearl encrusted Dame Elizabeth was wheeled into her 75th birthday bash at the Ritz Carlton as a press line sang "Happy Birthday" to the beaming superstar. When asked about her love life, Liz was sharp as she shot back, "Wouldn't you like to know?!"

The oh-so-random guest list included Kathy Ireland, Debbie Reynolds (a fellow ex of Eddie Fisher) and daughter Carrie Fisher and Siegfried & Roy. Taylor's friend Michael Jackson was unable to make it to the bash, because he had, per Liz, "business things going on." Asked the secret of living to 75, the much married Oscar winner quipped, "Hangin' in!"

Looking a little frail but still as sharp as a tack, Elizabeth Taylor at 75 seems almost surreal! It seems like yesterday she was bouncing around the stage in Beverly Hills with her ex-husband Richard Burton in the play "Private Lives" (1983) a little overweight but still the great star that she was! Now she is 75! She has had a life unlike any other human being and no one will ever have a life like hers! If she ever wrote her autobiography it would take her another 75 years to jam in all the details. This woman has dined with kings and queens (many, many queens, in fact!**inside joke for all who understand! LOL****) and eaten fried chicken at a restaurant in SouthCentral Los Angeles. She has loved and lost many men, went up and down in her weight, has been in rehab for pills, built an empire that has made her beyond rich, stuck by her friend Rock Hudson when he got sick with AIDS when many of her "handlers" advised her to dump him as dead weight and is as loyal to her friends and fans and employees as they are to her. ROCK ON DAME ELIZABETH! Her mother lived to 99. I hope Elizabeth hits the 100 mark! What a lady. Beautiful, wild, vulgar at times; yet lady like, vulnerable but tough as nails to anyone to dares get in her way -- this woman has seen and done it all hundreds of times. I hope these young girls who are enjoying their fame today take note and look at Elizabeth Taylor's life. They don't make them like this anymore!

My very wise grandma, rest her soul, would always say, every time glamourpuss Liz was on TV... "There's that whore. She's nothing but a home-wrecking slut."

As I said, my grandma was a wise woman!

Liz is a trouper. It is just sad that most of her contemporaries have passed on. Roddy McDowall, Rock Hudson, and of course, most of her ex-husbands - all gone.

DEBBIE REYNOLDS was a guest at Elizabeth's party ! This is extraordinary news. That Debbie accepted an invitation is a sure sign that Ms. Taylor is a great lady and the two women were able to make peace, good for them. And Eddie Fisher was nowhere in sight, I wonder WHY ? Happy many returns dear Elizabeth Taylor, no actress has ever replaced you in my heart, you are the most beautiful and generous person ever to entertain us on the movie screen. Thank you.

Ms. Taylor:
How lovely you look! It's encouraging to know that rehab, ex's and working your ass off hasn't taken it's toll on you. It gives me hope... because I've been thru the same. Less a handfull of hubbies, that is. :P
Good luck and good health,
Velvet (Yes, I was named after her role in the movie)

Happy Birthday Liz, all the best to the classiest star yet. I don't remember seeing her doing any drugs, showing her privates or better yet drinking and acting like a pig like the new stars are doing. They could all use a lesson from her in fact this could be a new career for Liz, coaching starlets how to act in front of the press, public, and how to be professional no matter what. I think she is embarrassed about all these useless wannabees who think they command attention. Want suggestions, this week make a promise to yourselves not to buy any of those magasines so that you are not paying the salaries of these relentless paparrazi who are the real issue. Instead donate this money to AIDS and make in Liz's name saying Happy b day Liz your donation will go further than that trashy magasine that you are going to throw out anyways, save a tree ,and help a life!!!! AIDS is forever.

Say what you will about her personal life, but Elizabeth Taylor has been a superstar for the better part of more than 6 decades. That, in and of itself, is amazing. Most of her career achievments have been overshadows by her marriages and her illnesses, but if you go back and watch some of her films like "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?", you can see that her status as a Hollywood legend is very well deserved. When given the chance to showcase her abilities as an actress, she was awesome. Sadly, not too many producers and directors wanted too much more than 'the legend' in their films, and didn't give Elizabeth the kind of opportunities to chew the scenery that she deserved. All in all, she's an awesome lady and a hell of an actress. Her dedication to AMFAR aside, she deserves the reverance and the admiration of fans worldwide.

I think she's creepy. She's a drug-abusing hypochondriac and she doesn't look good for 75. Her face is good for her age, but overall her appearance is much, much worse than that of a woman who took care of herself. She married Larry Fortensky and she's friends with Michael Jackson. How pathetic that by Hollywood standards she's considered a "class act."
