Mel Gibson Gets a Phil Pill

Dr. Phil expressed some dismay Wednesday night about the harsh criticism against Mel Gibson for his anti-Semitic rant during his arrest.

The good doctor, who appeared on "The Tonight Show," told Jay Leno: "I don't know what [Gibson] really thinks or feels."

Dr. Phil added: "I certainly wouldn't judge a guy based on one comment in a drunken stupor on the side of the road at 2 o'clock in the morning."

Could it be that Phil is angling to get the Gibson mea culpa interview? Stay tuned.

16. THANK YOU DR. PHIL!!!! I am so tired of all of the negitive media against Mr. Gibson. Yes he made a mistake. I wonder if Ms. Walters has ever owned up to a mistake, I'd bet not in this life time...how many times has she been married???And she has a fair show with the so called view? Anyone who would hire rosie is a fool, so lets talk big mistakes, and I don't think she was drinking or has an excuse. When you say you are sorry good people will say, OK you make a mistake....If you say you are sorry 3 or 4 times because the so called press won't let up, I'd tell the them to kiss my elbow......so good for someone for speaking up for the man, don't these people have other things to talk about....they are just trying to kill his career.....if michael moore(rone) had made the same type of statement (oh wait he did and made a whole film ) they would love it.........and him for being the rude fool that he is, What is wrong with these people? Give it a break!

17. Well I think Mel made a mistake.Ok he has a drinking problem . He also said some very nasty things that was the boss talking.I do not believe he would have said those things had he been sober. Why jail normaly lose your driving privalage for 90 days.Than community service and pay the court fees and fines.
Kennedy got off with only rehab and community service. So should Mel.He should not be able to drive for 90 days and while he cant he should be in rehab pay all his fines .
After all that he should do at least one year of community service.
Hey like I said Kennedy got off this year what makes him so differant? The law is the law you break it you need to pay.I do not believe locking him up will do any good .Give Him what Kennedy got.

19. Has everyone lost their minds or is it that everyone is somewhat a bigot concerning that all that's on their minds is the language Mel Gibson used and not the fact the man got into a car driving drunk! I wonder how many people would approve of their kids doing that? Also everyone handles liquor differently.

20. Many opinions blasting Mel would seem to recommend purgatory...a lifetime sentence of hell. But do they know him? I have been involved in the arrest of numerous DUI's, and seen many who went off on stupid tirades on inane subjects or serious subjects......but I have learned and observed one drunken tirade isn't an absolute . Many of the crucifiers of Mel have merely never been caught or observed themselves. The failures of Hollywood or wanna be more than they are's are squealing like he offended the world. Give Mel a break.
I accept his apology, let life go on. And that means you to Barbara WaWa! And to the arresting officer...grow up. Your job was to arrest not write a report like a typical scandal sheet reporter.

21. Mr. Ernest Salomon you deserve your name, what a lovely well written email. Your thoughts and words made me cry. The "Richard" who wrote just before you is just a "pathetic people hater" and will not understand your words. You are a blessed man with a kind and wonderful nature. May God Bless you . I am from the south, and grew up when whites and blacks were "seperate but equal" As a white little girl growing up in Mississippi I didn't question the practices or the use of the "N" word until I was older. I'm a republican, but I love to read the words of Dr. Martin L. King.I'm not so sure we need to have a school or street in every town in America named after him, but I think he was a great leader, and if he had lived, life if Lincoln had lived, I think we would live in a different world. With Isreal defending herself even as we speak people are concerned about what a man said while he was drunk. I loved his movie and did not see anything against the jews, I saw my own sins . My 2 best friends are jews and even they think all the fuss with Mel Gibson has been taken too far. Of course when he ask for forgiveness they gave it, these people that won't let it go don't know what that means. I again thank you for your post. I am humbled by it.

22. What most people probably don't realize is that Gibson's father, Hutton Gibson, is a semi-famous conspiracy theoriest, anti-semite, and consort of holocaust deniers. He grew up with a pretty wacky family.

23. And if the President of the country looks at you and says, "I did not have sex with that woman" we are all going to vote for his wife for president because He will say what a great wife and peoson she is???????

24. Ernest Salomon: you are not only a wise man but a good man. There should be more of you in this world. Thank you for you kind words and reminding us what it means to be a good human being.

25. What Mel Gibson said about the Jewish people was despicable and unforgiveable. What an ignorant jerk he is. Has he forgotten how much Jewish scientists have contributed to the health of the world's children--including Mel's own children? Mel Gibson's 7 or 8 children will never die from Polio because of the discovery of a Jewish scientist. Will the "great" Gibson refuse Polio vaccine because it was discovered by a Jewish scientist? I rather doubt it.
And let's not forget what else Gibson said--that he "owns Malibu," and, how he insulted the female police officer. Drunk or sober--Mel is disgusting.

26. I think it's nuts that this is getting so much attention. Let the first person who hasn't messed up, stand up! If he doesn't hurt or kill anyone, I don't care what he says. Mel Gibson hasn't done anything that most of us haven't done. He just got caught and who cares! If you hate me I could care less....just don't get phyical about and I'm fine. And if he was given "special treatment" by the police, well none of us would know about it in the first place. Next news story......

27. I want to thank both Gwen and Paula for their kind remarks about what I wrote and about me personally. I am humbled and honored to be in the company of such lovely, kind and thinking ladies.

I have had a television program that is now going into its ninth year. My objectives have always been to be fair and credible. My audience has continually commented that I do both, though they do not always agree with my opinions. That's good! I

t is good to see that most of the people writing about Gibson's awful remarks have the sense to see that Gibson's apology is seen by most as honest and heartfelt. The man must feel like a moron at this stage.

Some good has already come out of this episode. It will make most of us better people and more thoughtful of what we think and say about others. We all need a bit of continual fine tuning.

Thank you again ladies!

28. Uh...to "Paula," I am not a "prople-hater." Having said that, in fairness to Paula, I have no tolerance for haters, and that is what Gibson and his like are,

I'm rather curious as to how I ended up, at least in Paula's eyes, as a people hater. After all, I didn't utter any racial or religious epithets, did I?

I simply pointed out that I am sick of people who speak from their heart, and then try to say, through high-priced agents and PR firms, "Well, I really love (fill in the blank)," or the idiotic, "Some of my best friends are (fill in the blank).."

That's it...

If that makes me a people-hater, I guess I am guilty as charged, and proud of it.

29. Reading back and wondering........gezzzzzz......are some of you people so thick you can't understand that Mel Gibson is an anti-semite. Do you really think he said this because he was drunk. Well you might be right.....but it sure wasn't the first time he said that, not the second and not the 10th..ect.... Do you think he just thought....Ok....today I will bash the J's in the alphabet and and picked Jews. Just that time he did say it it was to police and they had to write a report.
If I thought he said it only once....sure forgive him.....but how many thought he said this more then a few time.....eh!!!

30. There is a famous quote in the bible that says "let him who is without sin cast the first stone." It was said by Jesus about a woman caught in adultry. Was that woman caught in adultry alone? Where was the man she was committing adultry with. Who are any of us to judge another man. In condemning him you are condemning yourself. You have committed the same sin against him that you claim he committed against the Jews. Besides, it wasn't the Jews that hung Jesus on the cross it was your and my sin. I know some of you don't believe but lets face it, it makes us all guilty by association.
