Mel Gibson Gets a Phil Pill

Dr. Phil expressed some dismay Wednesday night about the harsh criticism against Mel Gibson for his anti-Semitic rant during his arrest.

The good doctor, who appeared on "The Tonight Show," told Jay Leno: "I don't know what [Gibson] really thinks or feels."

Dr. Phil added: "I certainly wouldn't judge a guy based on one comment in a drunken stupor on the side of the road at 2 o'clock in the morning."

Could it be that Phil is angling to get the Gibson mea culpa interview? Stay tuned.

46. I AM NOT SURPRISED ABOUT THE FUSS. RECENTLY I ALMOST LOST A FRIEND OF OVER 50 YEARS BECAUSE I STOOD UP FOR THE NATION OF ISRAEL. I HAVE SEEN MOVIES ABOUT ANTI SEMITES AND AND WAS RAISED WHERE THE JEWISH PEOPLE WERE RIDICULED. BUT AFTER BECOMING A CHRISTIAN I SAW THINGS DIFFERENTLY AND OVER THE PAST 35 YEARS HAVE DEVELOPED A GREAT LOVE AND APPRECIATION FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE. THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DEFEND THEIR SMALL NATION FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. WE NEED TO SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE. I AM SO SORRY THAT MEL SAID THOSE THINGS BECAUSE THE "PASSION OF THE CHRIST" WAS A GREAT WORK AND I WATCH IT TO REMIND MYSELF OF THE LIFE GIVEN FOR ME. ALSO THE JEWISH PEOPLE GAVE US JESUS AND THE HOLY SCRIPTURES OF WHICH I AM A STUDENT. I DON'T USUALLY RESPOND TO THESE POLLS BUT I FEEL IN THIS DAY AND AGE WE SHOULD STAND UP FOR ISRAEL AND IT'S PEOPLE. PAULINE

47. Ernest Salomon's comments here (in posting No. 6) were intelligent and rational. So were Dr. Phil's. It's too bad Barbara Walters felt she had to "weigh in".

48. I absolutly agree with #6 (ERNEST SOLOMON) COMMENTS, Mr Solomon must be a really decent human being to think through thought's so well! AND RECOGNISE THAT THOSE COMPLAINING THE LOUDEST ARE FIGURING OUT HOW TO GET THE MOST MONEY OUT OF Mr Gibson. The World needs more people like E Solomon. Dee.

49. You guys are assholes! This video is EDITED! Dr. Phil went on to say that he believes Mel is a good guy and Jay Leno agreed and then the audience APPLAUDED. But you cut the video off to make it seem like Dr. Phil was saying something else. Jay Leno AND Dr. Phil AND the studio audience were on Gibson's side about this. TMZ, you have NO credibility. You people are disgusting.

Posted at 1:28AM on Aug 4th 2006 by TMZ = untrustworthy

50. tmz EDITED this video and CUT out the part where Dr. Phil AND Leno said that Mel Gibson has a reputation for being a good guy and that people who know him can attest to that. and the audience clapped.

But of course, TMZ can't show that now, can they? of course not, since it would ruin Harvey Levin's plan to try and destroy Gibson. Not going to happen Harvey. While Gibson clearly made a mistake, people still like him and always will. You, on the other hand, are a disgusting, vile, ugly man. And an media whore.

I was never a Gibson fan but this obvious smear campaign is making me feel bad for the guy because the people so ready to persecute him are the same people who have said or done prejudiced or stupid things before. you all are hypocrites and liars.

51. People need to get real here about several things. First, if you are reading/writing on these blogs you are in no position to tell others to forgive Mel and move on with their lives. You are spending your time on it just as they are. Second, if you are not a minority that has been targeted by hatred and felt first hand the sting of people hating you and mistreating you, you are not in a position to judge here. Third, if you think people need to "get over it" that means you are unfamiliar with the concept of powerful people influencing others to do wrong. You should read the powerful article written by two Catholics(whose family members serve in the church), the Englers, in the Des Moines Register. It pertains to now but uses history to illustrate the point so beautifully. Lastly, while I sympathize w/ Mr. Salomon for his losses, he has missed some very important points. Mel has never said "I'm sorry I made anti-semitic remarks". He has not been specific like that because he does not want to admit that he did that. He has given the PR spin version of an apology. One where it looks like it at first glance if you aren't paying attention, but then you look again and realize what it is. He never admitted that he didn't share his father's opinions of Holocaust denial (could have easily done that but didn't) when asked. He does not accept Vatican II's taking back of the portrayal of Jew's as Christ's killers. Instead chooses a sect of Catholicism that specifically denies that. In a sober state ranted on (sober not drunk) that he wanted to kill a Jewish reporter, his family and dog re: comments made during the making of his Passion movie. Dr. Phil is going for the popular vote. It is always the popular vote to be forgiving. However, the popular vote is not always the right vote. We should not forgive those who have not taken the steps to be forgiven. 24 hours in isolation does not a new man make much less does it rewire the brain of a bigot. Again, we have way evidence to show that he is a bigot than we do to show that he is not so why would anyone with half a brain want to assume that he is not? Because he's good looking? Another example of how looks and money help.

54. Right on, Arthur...(And, Mandy, at the VERY beginning)...we are only "outraged" because he's Mel Gibson....hmmmmm, I'm white,...what will happen if I get a DUI?

NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's a "target", and everyone is trying to "hit" him ~ He's done more good for his country than bad ~

He's a MAN ~ Superstar, rich, famous....who cares? He MADE A BAD MISTAKE ~
Doesn't mean he's persecuting Jews....He was drunk, for sakes...leave him alone....He'll have to pay his price, in his own way.....

As for the comments about "Passion of the Christ" ~ All it was, was a MOVIE ~ Doesn't make your beliefs change, don't take offense....it is ONLY AN OPINION ~ How many different interpretations ARE there of the BIBLE, the writings, or Christ, Judaism...the actual fact that some believe that Jesus actually WAS a Jew!!!!!

Get over your little, petty sensitivities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's an OPINION and he's only a man ~

Oh, yeah, I once heard, when I was 4 (I think)...Forgive those......

55. See George Hall's comment (No. 30).

I rest my case. He's just the sort of ignorant, pathetic, sorry-assed, brain-dead wretch of a fool that would cheer Mel Gibson. As I indicated earlier, there will be plenty of tormented, twisted morons out there to keep Mel company, no doubt believing that the Jews control the banks, media and the rest of the bigoted crap that eats at their souls and turns them into cancerous, rotting beings that pollute and stain the earth upon which they crawl like so many maggots.

On second thought, that would insukt the maggots...at least they have a purpose in life, and some redeeming qualities.

Don't bother responding...I have simply served to portray you as you are, and will not return to your cesspool of imbecilic thought in which you writhe in your own excrement.

Have a good day, George.

Your pal,

Rich

56. I REALLY FEEL THAT THOSE OF US WHO ARE NOT GUILTY OF EVER MAKING SOME KIND OF RACIAL OR ETHNIC REMARK SHOULD NOT CONDEM MEL GIBSON FOR HIS TIRADE IN A DRUNKEN STATE. THROW THE FIRST STONE IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU SHOULD JUDGE HIM.
I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT AFTER MAKING THE MOVIE ABOUT CHRIST THAT THERE IS VERY MUCH GOOD IN THIS PERSON WHO IS HAVING DIFICULTY QUITTING SMOKING AND THE PRESSURES OF MAKING A MOVIE IN MEXICO.A FEW PRAYERS FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY WOULD BE MORE APPROIATE AT THIS TIME.

57. I was listening a radio talk show host the other day. He was discussing drinking Alcohol. According to him and his many listeners, they had NO PROBLEM WITH DRIKING and DRIVING as long as you did not get involved in an accident. Setting of road blocks to check the drivers was mentioned as irrational and stupid. How will they (Counties)collect their revenue? Has any one looked into this area? Of course certain counties collect almost 40% of their expenses from such fines.
Do not believe that all those good cops are good; their are many crooks too. Among the white sheep there are going to be black ones too.
Does a person who has a few drinks ( two or three), have no legal rights?

There is a system where the Cops. get promotions according to the number of "tickets" they hand out ( so called "quota system").

At wine /beer shops the police inform the owner 15 t0 30 minutes (some places)before the "police raid, and of course cetain individuals in the force are awarded for this.
How many people have noted prostitute centers at certian places (in States where such activities are banned), yet they are quite active. Is the Police supposed to curtail these activities? Yet, they go on.Why? Some one is paying some one to look "away".

Out sidethe Bars ,if an individual, does not take a Cab the Police is informed by the Cab people that such a person may be drunk! Just because this person did not take a Cab. A form of vengence!!
A number of the Cop's have a personality problem. Would any one know if a s'tudy exists on this subject.

As far as I know after High School, the candidates go through about One and One-ahalf years of training; and after that they think they are next to God,arrest any one for what ever! There are enough excuses in the legal books that they can get you for. Are there not other things for the Cops to do except sit on high-ways and check who is driving beyond 74 MPH. Remember we are paying their pays. In one town I counted that every 15 or 20th car was a Cop car..Is this not going too far out.?

I also know number of good cops. They are good and dedicated. I am also willing to help them at any point, and send letters of recommendations.

What I hate are these new young Cops. who think they know every thing and yet they are just scratching the top layer.

58. How many drunks are arrested everyday? Say stuff that they don't mean?

I don't see there faces plastered all over the internet. People make mistakes. The public dose not have all the facts. As for the "original report" I see nothing official about it. To me it looks like an copy of a fax from an old fax machine hints the black back round and white writing. TMZ is noting more than a piss poor copycat of the Enquire.

Yes Jesus was Jewish and crucified by his own people.

59. Sorry, George...

There was a typo in the word "insult." It should have read, "... would insult the maggots, " as in comparing you to a maggot would...oh, forget it.

60. I can't believe all the jewish people in the media are so up in arms over this. I mean don't you know this is how most of americans feel, but are to afraid to say. Mel is only going to come back bigger and stronger. He will pick up many more fans you watch. He just needs to stop apologizing and move on. Jewish people need to stop being so damn whinnie. Poor jews, he said f---king jews, lets hang him!! Get over it!!!!
