House Staff Represents for Lunch Lady

A giant boycott is scheduled to go down next Tuesday in Washington, D.C. Rising gas prices? Nope. Iraq war? Nah. A woman named Little Doris? Ding, ding.

Turns out Doris is a beloved member of the cafeteria staff at the Longworth House Office Building. According to an email circulating among House staffers, Doris was suspended without pay for being $9 short on her register. The government loses billions all the time and she's being jacked up for losing $9!

So the staffers are looking to boycott all the cafeterias run by Restaurant Associates to show their support for Doris.

Now about those taxes ...

1. Are you kidding me? Those people have no shame. I know they have rules so why not just let me pay it back on her next check? If the woman was going to steal she would have stolen a lot more than that

get a thin dime back from me. They can afford it!

9. What they're probably not telling us is that she's been short before and this is not her first time hence why they're are suspending her.

14. She was short $9. This means she most likely gave change for a ten instead of a one. The restaurant manager should have known that. It's a common mistake.
If she was stealing from the register, she most likely would have been long, ironically. You don't take $9, from the register, you take more than that to make it worth your while. And you want to keep stealing, so you don't want to get caught. She would likely not have rung up certain items, and kept track in her head or some other way to know how much to take back out of the register. Since she wouldn't want to get caught short, she would more likely end up with her cash register long. Short registers with small amounts missing are mistakes. Long registers are more likely to implicate a theft to look into.
I've managed bars and restaurants and have seen many of the tricks of the trade.
