TMZ has learned Heather Locklear was arrested yesterday on suspicion of driving while impaired.
Locklear was pulled over while driving in the Santa Barbara area.
Law enforcement officers tell us alcohol was not involved, but they are conducting tests to determine if Locklear was under the influence of drugs.
We're told she was released on her own recognizance, without having to post bail.
This could set up a bizarre custody battle given that Locklear and ex-hubby Richie Sambora have both been busted for similar charges.
Sambora pleaded no contest to DUI back in March -- his daughter Ava was in the car at the time he was popped. We're told Heather's kid was not in the car when she was arrested.
In June, Heather checked herself into an Arizona medical facility to fight anxiety and depression.
Heather's reps have yet to get back to us.

This is why David Spade split from her. He cannot be an enabler. It has happened before in his life (Chris Farley). Heather is human - she's got problems - she needs to get tough and rewire her computer (brain). Good looks/money/fame/etc. are not a gaurantee for a happy life.
I like Heather - but - drugs can get any body. Many Hollywood stars have come to realize this, some too late.

Heather has been a coke head and pill popper for years and years and years, I like the way her "plants" come here to try to defuse this story. It is not going to work. Anyone that knows Heather knows she has had these problems for more years then you can count. Her stay in Rehab was a joke and she has not been sober once. She doesnt think she has a problem and that is why she has no desire to stop. Heather doesnt know how to be in the public eye without drugs so she has no way to re-invent herself without them.
Leave Heather alone. Do you even understand how fricking hard it is to be beautiful, rich and famous? Come on people.
I have to second the comment by RobertBee. It is well known in Hollywood that Heather Locklear has a drug problem, I heard about it in 2001from people who partied with her.
sometimes in life, things happen for a reason, good and bad, never to late to learn from mistakes and make changes!
