PETA has bestowed upon Oprah Winfrey its "Person of the Year" award. She will receive a plaque and a letter of appreciation -- kinda like when your kid gives you a "World's Greatest Mom" t-shirt.
Using human hair instead of animal hair in weaves and wigs is very PETA-friendly.

How about the people who work in animal shelters? How about people like a friend of mine who takes animals home from the shelter who are over 7 years old, to give them a good home with lots of love for their remaining years?

Whether you agree with PETA or like or dislike Oprah, she has raised the awareness of animal neglect more than anyone else...ever. Her shows on adopting pets from shelters has changed the way many people feel about where they will get their next pet. Her shows have forced people into action - puppy mills are closing, people are adopting from shelters, and people are taking action against cruelty like never before. She could have put on "fluff shows" but she chooses to air shows that make a difference. For that, and that alone, she deserve this recognition.
