El Pollo Loco to KFC: I Feel Sorry For Ya Mama

Aw snap, chicken fight!

El Pollo Loco and KFC are in old fashioned throwdown over free chicken. KFC customers have gone crazy over the company's recent free chicken coupons, but apparently the coupons won't be honored on Mother's Day. So El Pollo Loco has decided to honor KFC's coupons on Mother's Day for their customers -- whether you're a mother or not!

Your move, Colonel.

1. That's awesome that El Pollo Loco is doing that. Now if I could only figure out how to print out that darn coupon.

5. In case you haven't been following the "Great Chicken Debacle of 2009," people were getting turned away in droves from using the Oprah coupon, and today, KFC issued a statement that they are ENDING the promotion - a full 11 days before the coupons expired (5/19).

Seems that the "coupon printer" you were so supposed to download in order to print your four available coupons (the printer would only allow you to print four and then would shut down) took a dump several times yesterday with many people getting error messages stating they had "printed the maximum allowable amount" of coupons when they really hadn't printed any at all. So some mother plucker at KFC thought it would be oh-so grand to post a PDF version of the coupon while they worked on the "technical difficulties" of the downloadable coupon printer.

Problem is, the coupon printer gave you unique bar codes while the PDF version had the same bar code- and you could print it over and over and over again as many times as you wanted - and people did. By the 100's. First, KFC said those coupons were "samples" and wouldn't be honored. Then a note popped up on Oprah's site saying that, yes, indeed, the ones with the same bar code WOULD be honored. So the Great Chicken Debacle of 2009 began with those PDF coupons ending up everywhere on the net for people to download like a virus.

Instead of two pieces of grilled chicken, KFC was basically down to giving away a grilled beak and asshole because they had depleted the supply of chicken. Thus, they put an end to the coupon, as per Oprah's website.

So unless you want to go stand at KFC, fill out some long-ass form to get your "raincheck" that can come anytime in the foreseeable - or not so foreseeable - future (they want different exp. dates so as not to "overrun" the KFC's again) with the guarantee that every American only gets ONE Oprah-endorsed, grill-stamped rubber chicken meal, I suggest headin' on over to El Pollo Loco on Sunday and see if you can't get a tasty grilled chicken meal there!

The "grilled chicken" at KFC sucks anyway. Putting Sharpie "grill marks" on chicken pieces and sending them stores in a frozen box does not constitute "grilled chicken."

6. An absolutely brilliant marketing ploy. They cant lose. They are betting KFC will backtrack on their mother's day policy, and say they will now honour the coupon. But the other guys still look better. Great move. Whoever came up with that one should get promoted.

9. Brilliant commercial, I wish we had one in New Jersey. That is great marketing idea, to use another companies promotion and spin it off to your restaurant.

12. racist people get dumber and dumber and dumber..hopefully one day they will forget to breathe while they scream "dey took our juuubz" and just cease to exist.anyways..to enlighten this possible KKKMART white light special consumer..Just because a fast food restaurant has a spanish name doesnt mean its actually a latino owned chain. But your hatred and fear(which u dont admit it) towards latinos and any other race is so big,,that whenever you see anything written in any language you dont understand, all logic and sense go out of the window., the diference between the swine flu and unleashed racism is that the swine flu at least has a cure for it.

14. THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEM NOW. The free coupons are a joke and just a way to get customers to come in and buy their chicken. You go and ask for the free meal and they say they can't honor them now but you can have a raincheck. I guarantee they still won't have chicken to give away when the coupon expires. Check on KFC's website. This is false advertising at it's best. They still have grilled chicken to sell but not to give away. yea, Right!!
