Pete was never given a full explanation as to why he was kicked out of the Beatles.

Best still tours with his group The Pete Best Band.

England's answer to John Speers (Alice Cooper drummer dumped via phone call just before they became famous).

18 months younger than Ringo give or take a decade. Think of the money he lost!

Pete Best was the best looking of the Beatles. I hear John Lennon had him kicked out
of the band, because of his good looks. John thought it would take attention away
from him.

Pete would have been all the fan's favorite had he stayed.

He was aged very well!!

No, no--it was Brian Epstein who got Best booted.
Best wasn't as good a drummer as Ringo.
Ringo had his own band with a big following.
Epstein thought if he could replace Best, he could combine the followers of two separate, popular bands into one big group following one band.
Which is what Epstein made happen.

OooooNooo!

I have a feeling his life was better off NOT being part of the Beatles. Looks like her survived the years better than any of the current living Beatles.

George Martin was given the responsibility of telling Pete he was sacked. It was not Brian Epstein who wanted Pete out--it was Paul McCartney. Paul was jealous over Pete's looks and Pete was the fans favorite. Lennon was friends with Pete and did not want Pete out. Remember they had no idea they were going to become BIG at this time.

Best signed a contract with the other 3 Beatles. If this was today, Best could have easily sued and recouped losses.
It took till the Anthology CD for Best to gain any royalties or recognition for having been a Beatle.

4. I agree that Ringo was the better drummer at the time, and his band Rory Storm was extremely popular.

3. It was not Lennon that had Pete booted, they were good friends. History captures a brilliant moment on u*tube if you search for the early Beatles with Pete Best. They are playing with Ringo for the first time and at the end of the song you can hear the crowd chanting WE WANT Pete. To which Lennon yells out YES. I believe it was Paul McCartney who was jealous of Pete's looks, who wanted Best out. Paul always got what he wanted. Best was the fan's favorite in the early days, not Paul.

THIS IS LIKE THE GAME OF GOSSIP, EVERYONE REMEMBERS IT A DIFFERENT WAY. I NEVER LIKED THE BEATLES, NOR DID I LIKE PAUL MCCARTNEY (NOR DO I LIKE HIM NOW). HAVING PETE KICKED OUT OF THE BAND BECAUSE HE WAS BETTER LOOKING SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING PAUL WOULD DO....EGO EGO EGO WITH THAT GUY.

No, it was George Martin's idea to get rid of Pete Best. The rest of the group did it reluctantly. Look, John was willing to keep Stu Sutcliffe in the band (and he was the best looking one by far) when no one else did.

None of the above. Pete was nowhere near as good a drummer as Ringo and, for all their oversized egos, the Beatles were primarily about the music and fixated on being as good as they could be. Ringo transformed the sound and tightness of the band, and was well worth the controversy of making the switch. Also, the shouting at the end of that film clip was "We want Pete!" (a guy's voice) followed by "Ringo!" (a girl's voice). Both drummers had a loyal following.

The rest of the group was not reluctant in getting rid of Pete Best. They wanted it...and it had nothing to do with looks. Pete was not showing up to some gigs, never wanted to hang out with them...he had a very different personality from the other three. Ringo was a better drummer, was pretty famous in Liverpool, and they liked Ringo. He sat in with them several times.

What the Beatles really boiled down to was : Paul and John. The two other were replaceable. I agree withthe poster that Ringo was the better drummer, and was better suited for the pop sound needed. Best had more of a jazzy style.

Who really made up the Beatles? It was John and Paul as songwriters. Take Lennon on his guitar alone, he was not that great of a musician (listen to Lennon admit to this on u*tube
"Lennon's View on McCartney."
None were great musicians at that time, they just happened to make a great sound TOGETHER with great songs.

I always felt a little sorry for this dude. But he seems to have always handled his odd fate with dignity.

Pete Best was a good enough drummer to take them to 2 different record deals and make them the #1 band in 2 different cities in 2 different countries before he was kicked out of the group for being the most popular. He was so popular that fans began referring to the group as Pete Best & The Beatles. When their EMI record deal was announced, he was the only Beatle shown in the front page photo.

It's a mith that he was unreliable. He only missed 3 shows (out of 700+) - no more than the others. Ringo missed WAY more than that. Best also played more shows in his 2 years with The Beatles than Ringo did in his entire career with The Beatles.

He didn't pop pills like the others, did well in school (John, Paul & George didn't). He was the most responsible one in the group. He (with help from his mother) was also acting as the groups unofficial manager after they fired Allan Williams (before they hired Brian Epstein).

Pete Best won a legal battle for a claim on royalties owed him when he was in the Beatles.
