Glee Photo Shoot Draws Fire

'Borders on Pedophilia'

10/20/2010 12:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The producers of "Glee" are taking some serious heat over a sexually charged photo shoot involving three cast members -- with one powerful parents group saying the pictorial "borders on pedophilia."

The Parents Television Council has released a statement thrashing producers for allowing Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele to participate in a "hyper-sexualized" photo shoot for the November issue of GQ -- despite the fact that both actresses are 24 years old and Corey is 28.

The PTC declares, “It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on ‘Glee’ in this way. It borders on pedophilia."

The statement continues, "By authorizing this kind of near-pornographic display, the creators of the program have established their intentions on the show’s direction. And it isn’t good for families."

So we gotta ask ...

There is sexual conduct in all walks of media and entertainment these days. In rap and rock and roll music, on TV, in the movies and in advertising. In a world where sexual perversion is prevolent in all walks of society, this kind of ad will only make the perverts of the world see it as something other than what it is. Promotion for the show and these young stars. Others may look at it and shrug and say, "Oh Well. That's just the way it is now days." That may be, but there is a point in which this type of advertising will only cause the continuing decline of civilization. We need to get back to the basics of life and quit making everything we see a sexual point of view. If not, the perverts win.

Looks good to me! What is the issue? They aren't even close to under 18? Stupid.

Ok now i agreed with the PTC regarding the taylor monson cover for revolver magazine..however.. this is not teen porn in any case.. GQ known for its fashion setting trends does not cater to the young minds of middle school age girls/boys.. this is a grown up magazine.

everyone in the world knows these actors are well in their 20's i have no problem with it.. they portray teens.. thats a big difference in comparison to taylor 16/17 and miley 17..

you are not considered a grown adult in the US if you are not atleast 18!.

PTC does sound like serious aged over 65 bible-thumbers on this one..i do NOT agree with your statement.

and also.. whats with this "show everyone your underwear!" photo spreads.

can they come up with unique ideas! i mean come on everyone cover has the same shoot.. show your hot pants, bikini, boy shorts, panties.

its HOT but beginning to be really stale.

This is frustrating for girls and for women. First of all, it does not matter how old they are. What the pics imply is a whole different story. It's trashy. It objectifies women and we know by the art direction that it's school age kids they are portraying. We have enough issues in this world with men lusting after young girls. This only adds to the problem. It's like candy for them and the girls doing the shoot are only promoting it.

Finally an opportunity to comment! The only thing "borderline" about the above story is the sanity level of those people who voted "yes."

The same people who voted "yes" here should also file suit against "Big Love" for polygamous relationships, "House" for malpractice, "Law and Order" for a violation of virtually ever civil right granted to us by the Constitution, and etc. etc. THIS IS TELEVISION. It is as complicated and simple as that.

Since its inception we have used television as a means to escape. We allow ourselves to fantasize, to escape, to enjoy. The actors portrayed on "Glee" are extraordinary looking. They were not chosen because of their ability to look like average high school students, but rather, their ability to look like exceptional high school students.

The actors are well over the age of majority and are doing nothing that could be construed as lewd or lascivious. They are doing exactly what they are being paid to do, exactly what we want them to be doing, and that is acting as a medium for our own fantasies, based on either the actors' real life personality or their character. Either way, there is no immorality, there is no degree of pedophilia and, the answer to the only relevant question, there is most certainly no illegality.

Look and enjoy.

Ok people, first of all the Glee production targets all teens to watch their show, they have visited many schools for casting/advertising prior to the launch of their frist episode. I know because they came to my daughters school last year. Secondly, this is based on high school characters, so YES, high schoolers and perverts are going to watch, and thirdly, what is wrong with an orginization standing up for protecting children a little more, yes, it is more of the same, but its nice to see someone does care about protecting children somewhat in these times, since no one else does, as I have observed from your post. This isnt the 50's, but have some class people...just because your childhood was f-up doesnt mean innocent kids cant stay innocent for awhile in their childhood....whats the rush ?? Everyone should protect kids..they are bombarded with bs all day everyday...people who want to corrupt them, sickos that want to molest them, people who want to harm them, and people who want to manipulate or control them...hell yeh we need to protect them, its not easy being young anymore!!!

I sometimes wonder why younger kids with talent cannot be found to portray these roles on Glee instead of them being played by young adults way over 20 years old, but I forget that there are child labor laws and that minors can only work so many hours a day on any movie or TV show set. Oftentimes older children or young adults are asked to play the role of a younger character, all the way back to Judy Garland playing Dorothy in "Wizard of Oz." Regarding the pedophilia issue now, these adults are not underage and therefore the target audience (teenagers) is not being influenced to prefer underage children. So the Parents Television Council needs to shut the F*** up and have committee meetings about bigger issues, such as supporting the statement: "The responsibility falls on the parents for what their children watch on television." This responsibility does not belong to a committee of self-righteous, bible-thumping-and-humping people.

Ignore anything the "Parent Television Council" says. They are a far-right organization that exists on donations. If they aren't making constant complaints about something in media, their donations dry up. That's why they go to such lengths to find things to complain about and label as evil for society. The "Parent Television Council" is worse for our country than any of the TV/radio shows they complain about.

My goodness!!! Come on PTC you have nothing else better to do then to watch a countless number of television shows and criticize what these "of legal age" actors/actresses do in order to make money to live. I would like to know what the children of the PTC are doing right now. People who have screwed up children LOVE to tell you how everyone else how to live their lives.

While the picture itself is not pedophilia due to the ages, it is definitely hyper-sexualized. Couple that with the fact that there are a LOT of kids, tweens and teens who watch glee, and the ad is BAD, BAD, BAD.
There is no sensitivity to the low age of the viewers of this show.

If this borders on pedophilia, what is the cougar rage over the Twilight characters considered?

I do not let my children watch this show..The PTC needs to go after any parent that would allow a child to watch this show. I am not even sure I would want a highschool aged child to watch this show. That is where all of our problems lie. The photo shoot is intended for is not marketed towards children in the teen magazines. They are adults in an adult publication..who cares what age their characters are supposed to be. As for pedophilia...I don't think that is what is intended here..Most pedophiles won't be looking at GQ to get their fix anyways!!

It's GQ, a guy magazine, what do you think it going to be in it? You don't want to look, don't buy it. Why is everyone so damn sensitive about everything, sack up!

Not even close to pedophilia. Not that I think it is kid friendly either. Kids love this show, but in the end it's up to parents to monitor stuff like this. The thing that disturbs me about it... is that he is dressed from head to toe, while the women and all trashy. I am not a prude in the least. I see nothing wrong with women dressed like that if they choose to do it. But I think the fact that they are dressed that way, next to the guy star of the show fully clothed, is just "in your face" objectification women. I tend to like the more subtle stuff. ;)
