NFL legend Ray Guy -- widely considered the GREATEST punter of ALL-TIME -- has been forced to sell off his three SUPER BOWL rings after filing for bankruptcy back in the spring.
61-year-old Guy -- a seven-time Pro Bowler -- banked a total of $80,100 for the three rings he earned during his 14-year NFL career ... two while the Raiders were in Oakland ... and one after the team moved to Los Angeles.
The rings (pictured above) were purchased by an unidentified buyer through an L.A. auction house.
After the sale, a clearly saddened Ray told the Augusta Chronicle, "I don't want to talk about it. I'm not trying to be hateful, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do."

Why would you hold on to a set rings you achieved nothing to get them in the first place? Don't get that. Saw recent interview of Ray at age 61. Damn, dude looks 90 for real! Sad all around... truth.
INTERVIEW WITH RAY GUY AT AGE 61 THIS YR. TALKS BEING A PUNTER. DEFINITELY LOOKS 90 THESE DAYS. CHECK THE VIDEO. http://www2.wjtv.com/sports/2011/apr/16/ray-guy-did-you-grow-up-wanting-to-be-a-63559-vi-77175/
Money management. Fell sorry for the guy but I am sure he lived high on the hog back in the day. So sad as it is...odds are good that the guy made his own bed.
He probably had more money than my whole neighborhood will ever see and he lost it all. Pathetic!
I seriously doubt an NFL punter back in the 70's and 80's made a boatload of money. They were pretty much working-class regular guys. Kickers even nowadays don't pull in huge contracts compared to other professional athletes. The Raiders current punter makes $4 million a year (he was the highest paid punter in history when he signed a few years ago). Guy is also filing for chapter 13 bankruptcy which allows him to keep some personal assets, but has him PAY BACK his debts according to a court authorized payment plan.
Be kind to the guy. He did not play during the "big" money days...and he was a punter...the best there was...but still a punter. They don't rate the millions other players get and they don't get the endorsements either.
I feel bad for the guy. Probably going to live another 15-20 years and he's broke. $81,000.00 won't last very long.
i do feel sympathy for him, however,he is very fortunate to have those rings to sell to begin with.how could he be broke, though??
Statistics are that something over 80% of all pro football NFL stars end up bankrupt after their career ends. This is not unexpected.

IDIOT
What did you do w/all your money FOOL????

your a moron!! they did not get paid well back then. you get better pay at taco bell then he got paid.
Only $80K for 3 Super Bowl rings?! That sucks! He got ripped off. Catching a baseball that sets some record pays out more than that!
I dont know about his financial woes, but a lot of former athletes lose most of their money in bad investments. They are duped out of hundred of thousands, if not millions of dollars. This is a good warning to current athletes. Be smart.
