**For today's testimony, click to continue below.**

Leading Propofol expert Dr. Steven Shafer --  the final witness for the prosecution -- told the jury,  Dr. Conrad Murray corrupted his patients ... because now, they're all terrified of Propofol.

He told the jury today -- "I am asked every day I'm in the operating room ... 'Are you going to give me the drug that killed Michael Jackson?'"

In his review of Dr. Murray's conduct, Shafer testified he found 17 "egregious violations" of standard medical care that contributed to the singer's death.

* Last Thursday, Shafer told prosecutors he was hired 20 years ago by the company that produces Propofol to calibrate the correct dosing for the drug.
* Shafer said the exact dosage of Propofol is crucial -- because even a slight discrepancy could be the difference between a patient sleeping for a few minutes, and one sleeping for several hours.
* Jurors then watched a video that showed how Propofol should be used in the OR. The clip showed nurses and doctors successfully reviving a patient -- played by an actor -- suffering from a cardiac arrest. Prosecutors were trying to show the jury Dr. Murray was not equipped to handle an emergency situation when he treated MJ.
* Shafer explained to the jury that Jackson probably died because his tongue blocked the back of his throat ... but could have been saved with a simple chin lift.

* As the video was played, Dr. Shafer gave a blow by blow how Propofol is administered.
* Shafer's key points:
-  Infusion of drugs should be done ONLY through a pump to avoid overdosing.
- "Informed consent" is not just a piece of paper but a process in which the doctor informs the patient of all the risks, benefits and alternatives.
-  A verbal consent is NOT binding.
- Record keeping is paramount
- If the patient stops breathing, the first thing a doctor should do... call for help.
* Shafer told prosecutors even when administering "a little bit" of Propofol, guidelines should be strictly followed because the worst disasters occur during sedation ... when doctors "cut corners."
* Shafer said Murray's treatment of MJ is both an "egregious" and "unconscionable" violation of standard care.
* He also called the 15.5 liters of Propofol Murray bought -- about four gallons worth -- "an extraordinary amount" for one person.
* Shafer said Murray's lack of basic and essential monitoring devices are an egregious violation of care and contributed to MJ's death.
* The fact that Murray never kept any records is "unbelievable," according to Shafer.
* He said Murray "left the steering wheel" when he went to bathroom to relieve his bladder calling the doc "quite clueless."
* Shafer told prosecutors there is practically no research on Propofol use to treat insomnia ... adding, "We're in a pharmacological Never-Never Land."
* Shafer took a shot at his former colleague and friend, defense expert Dr. Paul White... telling the court he was "disappointed" to learn that  White thought MJ could have died from drinking Propofol. Shafer went over several studies on rats, dogs and even humans that show the drug doesn't work when it's swallowed.
*  Shafer also bulked at the defense's argument that Jackson may have caused his own death by swallowing 8 pills of Lorazepam ... because the toxicology report showed the amount of Lorazepam found in MJ's stomach was "trivial." According to his calculations, Murray would have had to inject MJ with 10 consecutive shots of 4 mg each to reach the the blood levels in the toxicology report.
* Dr. Shafer debunked another theory by the defense, telling jurors there is no way Jackson woke up and then injected himself with a fatal dose of Propofol. He said people don't wake up  "hell-bent" on grabbing the next dose, calling it a "crazy scenario."

1020_iv_demonstration
* Shafer said the only theory that fits is this: Murray started MJ on a 1000 mg Propofol drip at around 9 AM ... which caused the singer to stop breathing around noon.
* Had Murray been in the room he would have noticed MJ's breathing slowing down around 11:45 AM and could have saved him by stopping the drip.
* In a dramatic moment, Shafer demonstrated  to the jury how, he believed, Murray set up a Propofol drip ... inserting a Propofol bottle into an empty saline bag.
* Shafer said Murray never used an automated pump, which caused the anesthetic to drip at a dangerous rate. The defense claims Murray only gave MJ a single dose of 25 mg of Propofol with a syringe on the day the singer died.
* Defense attorney Ed Chernoff came out swinging during cross examination, challenging Shafer's testimony from Thursday in which he said there is no way Jackson killed himself with either Propofol or Lorazepam. "That's a bold statement isn't it?" Chernoff  "asked " ... "That's what I think happened," Shafer shot back. "Everything you said is an opinion..." Chernoff said... to which Shafer responded, "To say that one should not lie to UCLA Medical Center is my opinion."
* Chernoff  tried to discredit Shafer's testimony ... saying the IV tubing he used in his demonstration was not found at the scene. Shafer said Murray could have easily shoved it in his pocket before leaving MJ's room.
* Chernoff also pointed out Shafer used the wrong size syringe and IV bag in his demonstrations. Shafer brushed it off, saying he didn't think  "size mattered."
*  Chernoff also asked Shafer about his relationship with Dr. Paul White, the defense's Propofol expert... asking him if it's true that he nominated White for an "Excellence In Research" award. Shafer said he did.
* During his cross examination on Monday, Shafer told Chernoff it's hard to know the precise effect Propofol may have had on MJ because the singer had been given so much of it in the 2 months before he died.

Hello Bridga:

Yes, I am in Ohio. The event that you are referring to is but a hop skip and jump away from me. Far enough away to where I don't need to worry about it but still close enough for me to get there if I had too. Yes, its horrible! All of the animals were destroyed by the County Sheriff's Office. Apparently, the man who owned them - set the animals free then killed himself. Most of the animals were put down while still on the property of the owner.

In my heart, I wish that the County Officials had waited in order to put them sleep then relocate them and/or place them in a zoo or something rather than destroy them as they did. But I can understand that they had the Pulbic's Safety as top priorty. I am such a HUGE ANIMAL LOVER that it just tears my heart out to know they were destroyed in that manner and so quickly.

Bridga:

Ohio is without doubt the worse place in regards to the laws of keeping wild animals as pets. And it is incidents such as this that really makes one think that the laws should be changed. Wild animals should be wild - not kept as pets. But that is only my opinion. I know many people (who live not far from me) that have wolves, and various forms of snakes, etc. If they should ever get loose for any reason - think of the consequences. Either someone will get injured and/or killed and then the animal will be destroyed. Its heartbreaking.

Just want to comment on the Shafer v. White testimony.

We may feel that Shafer did such a good job that Dr. White will not be able to present a reasoned argument.

I'm not so convinced. These doctors, although colleagues, will be well accustomed to scientific debate. It is part of their job.

I expect that White will dispute Shafers methodology, especially because there have been so few studies, that replication has been impossible.

Shafer produced convincing data concerning both Propofol OR Lorazepam. However, Michael was given both drugs together. This is a completely different variable, and if White is well prepared, he will provide evidence which looks at the synergy between these drugs.

Let's hope that the jury have got the hots for the hunky Dr. Shafer!

Katherine Jackson is “disgusted” that Michael’s teenage daughter was approached by the commissioner of America's Lingerie Football League and asked to be the organization's youth spokesperson.

A family insider told RadarOnline.com: “Katherine views this as a disgusting attack on a minor. There is a hell storm inside the family at the moment. A teenage spokeswoman for a lingerie league? That's just creepy and downright offensive.”

Jackson matriarch Katherine is the custodian of the late pop star's three children.

The offer followed the news that Paris, 13, became the first girl in her private Los Angeles school's history to get the call-up for the flag football team.

LFL Commissioner Mitchell Mortaza fired off a letter to the Jackson estate asking the teenager to sign on as a youth spokesperson.

In the letter, Mortaza wrote, "(The person signing up for the position) will be introducing youth clinics across the country to introduce the game of football to young ladies at an earlier stage in life.

"We would like to invite Paris to become the spokesperson for the LFL's youth programme and perhaps start training for a future football career in the LFL when she reaches the age of 18."

Conrad Murray Trial Recap: Defense Expert Conducted Beagle Propofol TestsConrad Murray Trial Recap: Defense Expert Conducted Beagle Propofol Tests
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Splash NewsBy Jen Heger - Radar Legal Editor

Dr. Conrad Murray's lead defense attorney, Ed Chernoff revealed in court Friday afternoon, that their defense witness, Dr. Paul White had conducted oral ingestion of Propofol to Beagle dogs, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, Dr. Murrray's defense team commissioned a study on Beagle dogs to determine how much Propofol would have to be orally ingested to cause Michael Jackson's death.

One of Murray's lawyers revealed in open court last week that findings from the study revealed that taking Propofol orally would not cause death, and they wouldn't be pursuing the theory that Jackson overdosed by his own hand.

Chernoff asked the prosecution's final witness Dr. Steven Shafer, a renowned Propofol expert if he was aware that their expert had conducted a Propofol ingestion study on Beagle dogs.

Chernoff said to Dr. Shafer: "Dr. White in addressing the same issue, you know that he commissioned a study, paid for by the defense involving oral Propofol and Beagles?," to which Dr. Shafer said, "I did not know that."

PETA has demanded a federal investigation into the Propofol testing on the dogs. PETA (the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization), filed a complaint with the U.S. Department o****riculture (USDA) on Monday alleging "cruel drug toxicity tests on beagles commissioned by the defense team of Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician now on trial for his alleged role in Michael Jackson's death.

“PETA asserts that if attorneys from Flanagan, Unger, Grover & McCool did commission the tests for the drug propofol - the toxic effects of which have been extensively studied in dogs and humans - those tests were likely conducted in violation of the federal Animal Welfare Act's prohibition against tests on animals that duplicate previous experiments. PETA has filed a complaint with the State Bar of California as well."

Under further questioning, Shafer admitted to jurors that is was a ‘possibility” that Jackson could of caused his own death.

When asked whether the singer could have overdosed by removing a clamp on an intravenous line of Propofol, Shafer replied: "That's a possibility."

But the medical expert said that hasn't changed his opinion that Murray was culpable in the singer's death.

Shafer explained there is no way to determine whether Murray or the singer were responsible for starting the flow of the drug that dripped into Michael's veins.

Murray's lawyers claim Jackson woke up when the physician left the room and gave himself the drug, but Shafer said this possible outcome was "in no way exculpatory" because Murray would've had to set up the procedure.

Chernoff began cross-examining Shafer by attacking the conclusions he has reached in court during his testimony.

Chernoff said to him: "You understand that everything you said in the last three days was your opinion."

And Shafer replied: "I stated my name, which I think was a matter of fact."

It was a blistering day for the defense, as Judge Michael Pastor ordered Dr. White to appear on November 16, 2011, to determine if he was in contempt of court for calling Deputy District Attorney David Walgren a "s***bag." to E! News. Dr. Shafer will resume testimony on Monday morning.

If we had more Grandmothers like Mrs. Katherine Jackson we could continue to build self-esteem, self-respect, and self-worth in girls so more would be highly admired leaders and thinkers. I admire her for speaking up. CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! Children should not be used to promote mens' fantasies. Let the Women who choose to play this "SPORT" promote it.

Dr. Shafer's testimony was very interesting and informative. Let's hear the case, but I too suspect Dr. Murray was not around when MJ stopped breathing or failed to notice his patient needed help. Strange he didn't tell family or AEG about propofol. Seems something dangerous to use and he had to notify someone. I find it strange too that Jermaine says twice in his book that MJs middle name is Joe and the court do***ents keep saying Joseph. Another subtle mistake.

____________________________________________________________
Okay forget calling 911 or CPR.....a simple chin lift could have saved Michael's life. Any mentioning of murray trying to clear the air passage of michael's mouth? Of course not. It's another basic principle of CPR.

The official ruling is homicide, not accidental death by tongue blockage.
Also there's no proof Murray gave michael propofol every night for six weeks.

If murray was giving michael propofol everynight, why didn't his tongue block his breathing the previous 59 nights you asked? Maybe murray turned Michael's head into a position after he was sedated to intentionally block his breathing??? If Murray did this, he's guilty of murdering michael jackson. (i confident my king did not hold his own head backwards after being sedated).

Also if murray was giving michael propofol everynight, knowing full and well that michael was consuming food and drinks three times per day, means murray was trying to kill michael. the use of an anesthesia with food in the stomach will result in vomiting causing the patient to choke and stop breathing.

No matter how you look at it,Murray is guilty of killing Michael Jackson intentionally. It was murder as do***ented in the Coroner's report.
