'Modern Family' Cast

WE WANT OUT

The cast of "Modern Family" wants out of their current contracts for the show -- all in a bold move to score much fatter paychecks.

The cast members -- Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara -- just filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox TV, demanding their contracts be declared null and void.

According to the lawsuit, the contracts violate a "7 year" law in California that bars personal service contracts with a duration longer than 7 years. As a result, the cast wants them tossed out ... presumably so they can renegotiate for more money.

The cast also wants the freedom to pursue other acting gigs outside "Modern Family" and Fox -- a freedom that's severely curtailed by their current contracts.

It's the latest in the bitter salary negotiations between the cast members and 20th Century Fox.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox recently made an offer to increase the cast's salary as follows: $150,000 per episode plus a $50,000 per episode bonus for season 4; $200,000 per episode for season 5, $225,000 for season 6, and up to $325,000 for an anticipated season 9.

But the cast reportedly rejected the offer and is now demanding much, much more.

As for "Modern Family" patriarch Ed O'Neill, he's not listed as a plaintiff on the lawsuit -- but THR reports, he has since decided to join his cast members out of solidarity.

considering how much money the studio makes off of this show and the actors - good for them. Geez they paid Charlie Sheen how much? and he sucked and so did his show. Studios make way too much, the cast should def stick together and get what they want, salary and professional freedom.

I hope they arent expecting the public to back them! That is absolutely ****ing ridiculous that they would demand even more money! they are a bunch of no name actors that happen to have a successful show! who do these people think they are? thinking that they are so irreplaceable? Get rid of their greedy asses!!

Meanwhile...in the real world, people are struggling to find food for the night. I hope they all get fired.

I find this really insulting to the majority of the country. These people are being paid VERY well (for no doubt a great show) and are still demanding more money. This is a time in our country were the middle class is disappearing, people are losing their homes and jobs, etc. I just find it really insulting to everyone else. I'm not saying they don't work hard for a successful show but 4.8 million each (for a 24 episode season) for the next season alone is far from chump change.

They are pulling a "friends" move. I wonder how much 20th centery fox hates the cast of "friends" right now?

One of the best shows on televison. They should get new contracts. Especially if their current one wont really let them do other projects.

I had to pay for a McDouble in change today, but I'll sleep better knowing Sophia Vergara is making more in a week than 95% of america does all year

How much is enough for these people, they will be if not already millionaires. After this show starts dropping they will cancel this show because it is so expensive. I see they need to make big money but come on---------------------

These people in Hollywood are so dang selfish and greedy! If they get a higher salary then this increases the cost of the show. This cost is passed onto providers as higher programming fees which is then passed to us consumers in higher cable/sat fees.

A contract is a contract. No one forced them to sign it in the first place. They should stop throwing their weight around like bullies, and wait patiently, collecting their huge checks, until the contract is expiring, then they can renegotiate.
