Joe Estevez was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, one of ten children (he has eight older and younger brothers and one sister). He is the younger brother of actor Martin Sheen and uncle of actor siblings Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen. Despite not being as successful in mainstream movies and TV shows like his older sibling Martin, he has carved out quite a career in his own right.As a child, he lived in the South Park neighborhood of Dayton. During a family trip in April 1959, he participated in the White House Easter Egg Roll and met President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He attended Chaminade High School, a Catholic High School located in Dayton. Upon his graduation, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy.After serving in the U.S. Navy, Estevez began pursuing an acting career starting in the early 1970s with minor roles in theatrical and television movies. He initially used his mother's maiden name, Phelan, before using his surname, Estevez. Throughout his career, Estevez has appeared in numerous film and television roles in lead, supporting, and minor parts playing protagonists and antagonists, and he frequently appears in moderate and low-budget independent features and B-movies. Appearing in well over 150 films and counting, he has a very large cult following, he is a sought after voice-over actor, and has hosted numerous documentaries. He has expressed in an interview that he wants to make movies that make a differenceJoe Estevez loves to go back to his roots as a stage actor when time permits. In his personal life, Joe was married in 2004 to Constance Estevez, aka Constance Estevez. He is also the loving father of three daughters.
