His tenure ended on 1 October 2010 in large part due to the circumstances of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He was replaced by Bob Dudley. Tony Hayward was born in Slough, Berkshire, in 1957 and was the oldest of seven children. Later on, his family moved to nearby Windsor. After attending the local state grammar school, he went on to gain a first class geology degree from Aston University in Birmingham followed by a PhD from the University of Edinburgh School of Geosciences.
