First Look: "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"

8/16/2006 3:53 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Assuming you're not the type of person who downloads illegally posted television shows off of the Internet, this might be your first peek at the most-anticipated new show of the season, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

"Studio 60" stars Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford and Amanda Peet -- and, oh by the way, is created and written by "West Wing" messiah Aaron Sorkin. The show is a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional late night sketch comedy show on a fictional network.

In the premiere, the show's executive producer has a meltdown after a possibly controversial sketch is cut from the show. The new network entertainment chief (Peet) turns to former two former writers (Perry and Whitford) to come in and restore the show to glory.

In this clip, Matthew Perry storms in to meet with his new bosses and reveals a little too much information.

"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" premieres September 18 at 10PM ET/PT.

Thanks for screwing me over, (Aaron) Sorkin!!!!! I had the domain name and planned to cybersquat it for mega money, but then you go and change the number from "7" to "60" and now I'm stuck w/ a near-useless domain name for a year. Go do some more cocaine. :-p hehe JK ... I hope the show's a SMASHING success! Just don't be too "insider" or else the audience won't relate.

I already downloaded and watched this.

It was ok. Typical Sorkin stuff. Non stop dialogue. Liberal. This will have more levity and celebrity guest appearances than West Wing due of course to the well chosen setting. Might get Emmy's, might not get ratings.

Why do I have this nagging feeling that this show is gonna be yet another crap TV seeries? (The question is rhetorical.)

TV created for execs on both coasts. My gut feeling is that it won't catch on, but then again, I didn't think people would actually give Paris Hilton 200k to show up at their club for 20 mins for her to jabber "that's hot".

This show was flat out boring. Most people don't care aboutwhat writers and prodcuers of tv shows do behind the scenes. Trying to dramatize this stuff reminds me of Kevin Costner in the Postman, remember how great that was??

The pilot basically tells us the heroes of the show are upset that the network is too patriotic and Christian bigots have ruined TV. Mathew Perrys character wrote a skit called "Crazy Christians" which got a thumbs down from the stuffy bad guy network characters. The show is about characters like Perry being re-hired to write stuff like that since its "true".

Take The West Wing. Remove the interesting story lines. Replace hatred of Republicans with hatred of Christians. Bingo you have Studio 60 on sunset strip!!

This show will be lucky to last an entire season. Its the "Joey" of dramas only worse.
