Madonna to Media: "Shame on You!"

10/25/2006 11:12 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Madonna swung back with visible irritation at the media coverage of her controversial adoption this morning on "Oprah," suggesting that the media is "doing a great disservice" to all African orphans by giving her story such intense coverage. In her first interview since taking in 13-month-old David Banda, her message to the people who had taken an interest in her strange adoption saga was, "Shame on you for discouraging other people from doing the same thing."

She also batted aside claims that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had had any influence on her decision to adopt, saying that she'd never even met Angelina. She added that her new baby David had been tested for several diseases and did not appear to have HIV, even though his mother and siblings had contracted the virus.

The Queen of Pop told Oprah that she viewed the interview as an "opportunity to set the record straight." She said that, contrary to the way the story has been told in recent days by David's birth father Yohane Banda, she met Banda in court and got his legal consent to adopt the child. "He was very grateful that I was going to give his child a life," said Madonna, "and that had [David] stayed in the village he would have buried him" due to poor conditions.

You know, maybe I'm stupid, but even IF Madonna leaves the basic raising of this child to the "hired help" (because we ALL know that once a woman's had a baby, she "should" have NO room for ANYTHING else in her life), doesn't this little boy still have a thousand-fold better life ahead of him?

And if, indeed, the father DOES regret his choice, that makes HIM selfish; more likely, I think it's true that he tasted the fruit of fame and wanted more. (This is not, contrary to popular belief, something that only American female celebrities are guilty of.) Regardless of whether Madonna is doing this for publicity or out of the goodness of her heart, that child will now have medical care and education, a constant roof over his head, and assured food in his tummy. If you have a problem with that, you're a fool.

Adopting in the U.S. is impossible, or so I've heard from people who struggled for years before (surprise, surprise!) deciding on an out-of-country adoption. Furthermore, a sick and lonely child in Africa suffers JUST AS MUCH as one here in America . . . and I'm sure very few of those who've commented nastily have done nothing for EITHER sick and lonely child. (I haven't, but I'm not being nasty to Madonna, so I think that's fair.)

And to those of you saying that she should just have HAD a kid, how blind are you? She's worrying about children ALREADY BORN, and already suffering. It's sickening to hear that women are only worthwhile mothers if they pop out their own children, but media hungry whores if they take care of a child who is already born and alone in an orphanage.

Just like with celebrities who adopt, such as Angealina Jolie, and Brad Pitt, It's not a child to them, it's an accessory. It's pathetic.
