Celebrity Feuds
Oxy-Moron Limbaugh and Fox Ignite Stem Debate

Pill-popping conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh blasted Michael J. Fox recently for a political ad in which Fox supports stem-cell research. And now, right-wing cronies, celebrities, and even Jesus are taking sides against Fox and his position.

In Fox's ad, supporting Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill (and other pro-stem-cell candidates), he sways and jerks uncontrollably, visible symptoms of his Parkinson's Disease. Limbaugh criticized Fox's spot as "purely an act," a remark for which he received a swift and vociferous backlash. (Limbaugh subsequently apologized.)

But today, on "Good Morning America," fellow right-wing lip-flapper Sean Hannity came to Limbaugh's defense, saying that Fox had a right to be criticized. (The National Parkinson's Foundation, in a statement issued to TMZ, explains that Fox's symptoms are actually the result of taking medication and that not taking meds would result in stiffness.)

And, in an ad airing during tonight's Game 4 of baseball's World Series, "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Patricia Heaton, Jim Caviezel (who played Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ" and applies some Aramaic to his message here), and several pro athletes urge viewers to vote against Missouri's Amendment Two, which would provide constitutional protections against embryonic stem cell research.

31. I find it absolutely ludicrous that Mr. Limbaugh would criticize Mr. Fox's symptoms as over-exaggerated and done purely for political gain. I would like to think that as a recovering addict, Mr. Limbaugh would have more compassion for another human being who is suffering from a debilitating illness. I can only hope that if Mr. Limbaugh and those like him ever contract a terminal illness, that we as liberals, take the high road, and demonstrate a depth of compassion that men like him seem to have lost.

33. To quote Al Frankin--
"Rush Limbaugh is a BIG FAT IDIOT..." What the hell does Limbaugh think??! That Michael wants to take the medication and spazz out like for the fun of it? Limbaugh is nothing more than a LOUD-MOUTHED, PILL-POPPING, HYPOCRITICAL LOSER!!! That's all. Micheal may have a disease, but he has his wife and family sticking by him, supporting him through this ordeal. As for Limbaugh, he's seems pretty healthy, but twice divorced!! Who would want to put up with that pig!

And to Poster #15--Marie--good point about Limbaugh. He's just hot air with no credentials.
And to Poster #16--Lisa N.--love the sarcasm! Ha!

34. Think for yourself people! I see quotes from Savage and others - do your own thinking. The biggest indicator that the average racist right-winger can't think for himself is the famous "ditto" they all say to Rush. Of course it's ditto - they're all ditto-heads falling in line with the catch phrase of the day. Democrats may be a messy lot and we have a lot of in-fighting, but that's because we think for ourselves and we're all a bunch of individuals fighting for individual rights.

You know nothing about me my values or my belief system. Yet you judge quick on one statement about a man who apologized. I'm an Independent TRUE independent, I could care less about either parties bullshit line. I don;t listen to either O'reilly (Pompous ass) or Rush (also pompous ass). I don't believe in the Christian idea of "God". But go ahead lump EVERYONE who isn't a commie into your lil "NeoCon" pile.

BOTH Political Parties are 100% FULL OF SHIT.

Time for a third party.

36. I think people who can not make an intelligent reply show their ignorance. Saying you hope someone gets a disease or gets raped?! If this is the democratic party let me be no part of it. How old are you five? If you don't agree, then you don't agree but do the research, they are not saying they aren't for stem cell research, they are saying they are not for amendment #2, which would make it legal to clone. God help us all if it passes and they start cloning the likes of the people who have posted to this board.

37. Ignore Rush. He's taking your eyes off the prize. Stem cell research should continue....using umbilical stem cells and not embryonic, which is offensive to people who believe that life begins at conception or implantation. Using umbilical cord stem cells lets everybody win---especially those suffering with problems like Parkinson's disease or spinal cord injuries--and doesn't go against anyone's moral values or core belief systems...plus research is more promising with umbilical than embryonic anyhow. Quit siding with left or right and do your homework on the issue. And quit lumping all conservatives in the group of idiots and all liberals as immoral. Most of us are some of both.

38. Hey, Black Metal, nice try posing as an Indie........when to going gets tough you NeoCons change colors.....don't "cut and run".....GW would be very disappointed in your "change the course". Stop with your mindless rants and become a true individual thinker.....or, just stay in clown school.

39. Yea Al Frankin is a good person to quote. Most failed talk show host of all time.

THAT Alone ought to tell liberal socialist hippy types something about their views. BUT you just don't get it do you?

Just saying....

Yep Limbaugh is a tool, BUT he is one of the Nations most listened to radio programs. Someone thinks what he says is worth something.

K ,Off to rig the election =P

40. #34 Once again you KNOW nothing about what you speak. So just stop.

I understand you need someone to blame for your miserbale failure of a life. and your Che Guevarra loving professor told you it was "The Mans" fault that you have amounted to nothing.

The only mindless rants are yours trying to lump ANYONE with a differing opinion than yours in one group. I could never be a Bush Bot as I said I don't believe in God. I am for a womans right to choose, I have sisters AND a daughter.

But your Still a broke Commie =/

41. Black Metal. You are now using the label, "Commie?" You've got to be kidding me. McCarthyism was dead long ago. Go back and educate yourself. My professor could teach you a thing or two (but if you share Rush's brain we might not get too far).

42. > ...several pro athletes urge viewers to vote against

Lord knows we all need protection from scientists trying to understand how our bodies work. Just think of the huge problems we'd have if we discovered a cure for the many diseases that doctors and scientists are working on.

Much better to have the Koreans, or Italians or Indians become the major centers of medical research in the world. So what if medical research has already added decades of better life to the average American, and even more to those with some of the most debilitating diseases!

I say, just incinerate those stem cells (their fate now) or force couples who are desperate to have babies to implant ALL of 'em! Why should we actually try to do something civilized when we can be stupid, ignorant and laughing at those herky-jerks who are afflicted with disease?

43. In public appearances during Janet Reno's final year as Attorney General, her Parkinson's tremors were clearly visible.

It's one thing to announce that you have Parkinson's. It's another for a public figure, particularly a popular movie and TV actor, to feel comfortable exhibiting Parkinson's tremors in public. Fox made a very personally courageous decision to show his tremors, and the degree to which they've progressed, in the ad. He chose to make a very startling statement about what Parkinson's is, and how badly its patients need new research for better therapies.

As for the Oxy-Moron ... gee will someone PLEASE step forward and take credit for that word? It's a *wonderful* coinage. I'm envious!

It's one thing to be politically conservative. But I hope this 7 November, voters will separate conservatism from vicious and cruel mean-spiritedness. Surely it's possible to be a conservative without being a creepy jerk. Or is the right to be a creepy loudmouth jerk at the core of being conservative?

44. I'm surprised all of you didn't know how much of an Ultra Conservative Patricia Heaton is. She walked out of the American Music Awards when The Osbournes hosted the show because they were using "foul" language. She said that she was appalled and offended and bashed them on camera. Sharron Osbourne shot back at her saying something to the effect that she can shove it. Patricia Heaton is an idiot who got lucky on a sitcom and has done nothing since Raymond and probably never will.

Rush did appologize for his comments but the asshole said "I've seen him at events before and he never shook around me". What a dipshit Rush. He might have well said ... hey gang Michael J. Fox gave up his career because he wanted to pretend he had Parkinson's.

Doesn't matter if you're a liberal, conservative or moderate, the comments were uncalled for.

These comments coming from a man who says that ALL DRUG ADDITS SHOULD BE LOCKED UP. Hey Rush, pop another viccodin with an Oxy chaser on the backside you idiot.

45. Limabaugh is a fat idiot. He will get what is coming to him, karma is a bitch. What goes around comes around he will get his ,and So will Patricia Heaton. I dont wish anything bad to happen to either one of them.(because karma will take care of it, and we dont have too.) Know one should have to deal with the kind of pain other people have had to deal with, with those diseases. I just had a friend die of breast cancer, she was diganosed with stage three breast cancer at the age of 29. She had stem cell replacement which gave her 9 plus years to be a wife and mother to her children. She was not cured for life, but it gave us a lot of extra years with her. What if Patricia's friend had breast cancer, or another disease and stem cell research could save them in the future. The benefits FAR out way the disadvantages to the research. I 100% stand by Fox! These diseases HAVE to find cures and treatments. If stem cell research might do that we ALL need to support it. What if your child, mother, wife, husband, or yourself had the disease wouldn't you want someone to find a cure. Thank you to Fox who is speaking out on this cause, we need more like him. Hopefully something will come along soon enough to help him.
