Ryan O'Neal Arrested -- Shot Fired

Ryan O'neil

TMZ has obtained the mugshot of actor Ryan O'Neal, who was arrested Saturday morning at his Malibu home. He was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after a fight with his son, Griffin. O'Neal was released after posting $50,000 bail.

Police tell TMZ that O'Neal, 65, fired at least one gunshot during the scuffle.

Cops say he was booked at the Lost Hills Sheriff's station without incident. He was released at 5:30 AM.

Sheriff's sources tell TMZ that a 22-year-old female friend of Griffin's was "inadvertently" injured at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Sources wouldn't confirm if the injury was a result of the gunshot.

Griffin also has a history of substance abuse. He pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge in 1989. In 1992, he agreed to spend one year in a live-in drug rehabilitation program after pleading no contest to charges he shot at his estranged girlfriend's unoccupied car.

32. It is so sad that just after getting good news, Farrah is cancer free, this has to happen. Yes, stress does cause cancer to return. Read the material on it. But, Ryan needs anger management more than most. The stress of his own cancer, Farrahs, it just too much stress. Family consuling has to happen in this family. None of Ryans relationships with his kids have been smooth, he has been in the papers more for fighting with his kids in one way or another. . Always volient. I hope this is a wake up call for all the family, and they can work this out. My prayers go out to Farrah, to keep herself calm and get help for all people involved. So sad

34. It is so easy for us to judge others by things we see. We can not sit in condemnation of what people do. Only ourselves can we judge and the actions that we project.
As far as piehole.... SHAME on you!

35. Ryan has 1 daughter Tatum and 1 son Griffin with former actress Joanna Moore, he has another son Patrick with actress Leigh Taylor-Young. (She is currently on the soap opera Passions playing the character Katherine Crane.) he is also married to actress Rebecca DeMornay (Risky Business.) Then he has Redmond with Farrah.
It sounds like he has had some troubled children with addictive tendancies. (Not sure about Patrick though.) Sounds pretty quick tempered. Never should have a gun. Ryan needs to grow up too. I know no matter what age your kids are they can make ya nuts.

36. Farrah if you're interested in fighting racism, as you well should be, TMZ a celebrity gossip site is not a very effective platform. Why don't you go back to school, get a degree and do something positive for your people. Sitting at your computer typing on a Hollywood gossip site is not the way to accomplish your goals. With all your grammar and typing errors you give us the impression you are not well educated and you should work on that before trying to help others. Good luck!

41. We invented fire, the wheel, farming/agriculture and language.

Farrah, get over yourself. The first evidence of fire has been discovered in Israel. The wheel was almost certainly invented in Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq), as was agriculture. There are over 5000 languages spoken in the world today -- which one did your "we" invent? You should be proud of your race, but misrepresenting it is making you look foolish and less than credible.

42. You people feeling so sorry for Farrah need to get a grip. The true heroes are the everyday people that deal with cancer and other diseases and only have HMO's and very little support, not the people that become millionaires just for being beautiful who get transported to the best doctors available in the country in Bentley's and can afford to live in luxury while they recover. On top of it all you'd think after she got away from Ryan and that whole dysfunctional family she'd stay away. But she's right back there - like the poster said before. A moth to a flame. And don't forget, she's a shoplifter who destroyed another womans clothes and has been in more than one abusive relationship going so far as to get one ex a battery record! She's no angel.

43. The words below were copied and pasted from Tatum O'Neal's book "Paper Moon". No need to speculate about Ryan O'Neal...his daughter knows him best and explains just how violent he was...and obviously still is:

Hovering in the background was Griffin, my brother, my Irish twin, eleven months younger. Over the years, he’d gained a certain notoriety, sometimes as the victim of my father’s fury—once Ryan famously knocked out his teeth—and through his own collisions with tragedy, drugs, and the law. He’s fiercely funny, though, and he’s my bridge to the past, to memories that lose some of their sting when he recounts them. It made me heartsick to watch him wrangle the crowd like a flak—greeting the fans, pressing us for autographs—as if he viewed himself more as an employee than as a member of the family.

Luckily, I had my own family with me. My sons Kevin and Sean, at seventeen and fifteen, already towered over me, while Emily, my youngest, was still small and sweet and girlish at age twelve. We’d spent a full day shopping for new sport coats for the boys—how handsome they were!—and cute corduroy jeans and a jacket for Emily, which she wore with my red belt. My late mother, in her southern drawl, used to call the three of them my “show kids,” meaning that I should be proud to show them off. I was proud, and I felt bolstered by their loyalty and love.

The kids were protective, sensing my anxiety at seeing Ryan, always unpredictable and capable of lashing out, and wondered nervously if he’d brought Redmond, his son with Farrah Fawcett. Just a year older than Kevin, Redmond had become a somewhat forbidding figure after landing in drug rehab at age fourteen. Since then his life had been peppered with arrests and hospitalizations, and when he was sixteen, my father had kicked him out of the house. Whatever his current status—in or out of my father’s favor—Redmond didn’t seem to be around.

44. This one was not Redmon...It was Griffin...again.

Ryan and Griffin are no strangers to family violence. I'm old enough to remember that around 25 years ago, he beat up his son Griffin and knocked out a front tooth. This made national news because the boy was only 16 or 17 at the time.

I'm not saying he's a child beater, but he DID beat his child. The facts are the facts. Ryan has a history of beating Griffin. No wonder the kid got into drugs and violence in the first place.

45. Redmond had severe addiction problems, and was away in a juvie rehab for over a year. Griffin has addiction problems as well, most noteably his boat accident years ago. Tatum has also been in the fight of her life for her addictions. It runs in the family, but Ryan could never be father of the year, leaving both Tatum and Griffin to live on their own as teenagers to move in with Farrah.
