Libby Liberated. Paris Punished.

Paris Hilton and Scooter Libby have one (and probably only one) thing in common -- "excessive" sentencing -- but it's Paris, not Scooter, who actually did the time. Nice to have some friendly Bush on your side!
Scooter Libby and Paris Hilton

President Bush commuted the 2-1/2 year sentence of longtime White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby yesterday, calling Libby's punishment "excessive" -- just as Paris said of her own summertime slammer-time. Libby was busted for leaking a CIA agent's identity, putting her life in jeopardy. Aside from more than a few fashion disasters, Hilton was convicted of what some considered a glorified traffic violation. And who gets the free pass?

Most Americans aren't sympathetic to Paris and Scooter. When TMZ asked whether Paris got what she deserved, an overwhelming 93 percent of the more than 121,000 people who answered the poll responded that yes, Ms. Hilton deserved to do time for the crime. Similarly, most Americans think Libby should've done his too: A SurveyUSA poll revealed that 60 percent of Americans believe that Scooter Libby's 2-1/2 year sentence should stick. It didn't.

153. Genna and theforks - I'm sorry it took me so long to get back with you. I had to go out and forage for food (A.K.A. - single male). And attend to 4th of July festivities.

First of all thank you for your "Dripping sarcasm, much?" It made me smile. You write beautifully. I'm humbled.

As to Paris, and her family. I think her parents have done a beautiful job raising Paris and adjusting to her individual needs, and personality. No two children are alike. And it must be very difficult being the parents of such a dynamic, and famous child.

I thought they handled them-self amazingly through their child's unprecedented ordeal. I don't know how they did it. But it is clear where Paris gets that amazing strength she shows sometimes.

In many ways. Paris is like the quintessential big sister. You know what I mean.

The one who has been there. And done that. The one who knows about the dangers. Because she has been out there. The one that look's out for you. And your safety. The one who is still sweet to you. Though you have been mean to her. Because she understands, and cares. And yes! The one who doesn't share some things with you because you are too young. Or wouldn't understand yet.

There is a femininity. A softness. And a sweetness to Paris. At times it is so strong it's pungent, and intoxicating. But there is also a subtle strength, and power to her. That is so strong at times it almost seems supernatural.

For those of us hunkered down in the foxholes of life, with bombs exploding around us. And machine gun fire over head. Paris is hope, and a reminder that life is beautiful, and worth living for. She is that shelter from the storm (Bob Dylan). She is that brief respite. A pleasant interlude amidst the slings, and arrows of lives misfortunes (William Shakspere). She is the brief return to that lost island of Paradise. She is real. And she is a Pleasure.

She has the courage to live her life as she chooses. And pursue her interest and passions. She is a highly sophisticated. Ultra classy woman. Yet she is also very down to earth. Relatable, and normal. Very girl next door. She is also ultra high maintenance. And very low maintenance. She fits in anywhere. She is very sociable. And an extreme people person. But she is also very much her own person.

She can take the HARD knocks, and bounce back. And move forward. She is funny, artistic, and sweet. Easy going, and intense. Passionate, and exciting. Yet calm, disciplined, and controlled. You see. I could go on, and on about Paris. There is just so mush to her. She is a very paradoxical person. And unique.

But Paris doesn't beat you over the head with her complexity, worldliness, and uniqueness. Quite to the contrary. She gives you simplicity, clarity, openness, beauty, sweetness, approachability, fun, and happiness. She makes you smile. All while living her life as she chooses, and pursuing her interest, passions, and fun.

And she shares much of this with us. Through the same sweetness, approachability, and sociability that she extends to the paparazzi, that she extends to everyone else. Though as we have seen. Paris is a freak'en superwoman at dealing with the paparazzi, and the media. I think she owns them. Just like she owns our hearts. And they love it too.

Because in a word. Paris is COOL!

154. It's a shame the writer of this article and many of the people commenting don't know the facts. Mr. Libby was NOT "busted for leaking a CIA agent's identity, putting her life in jeopardy". Not only was she not serving in a secret agent capacity at the time, but it has come out that Mr. Armitage was actually the leaker of her name. Poor Scooter Libby was only a scapegoat for a prosecutor who was determined to get someone in the administration on something...so they found Mr. Libby guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice because he didn't properly remember the exact dates he said what to whom. Now tell me...how many of you can remember what date you told a certain person a certain fact, or even for sure who you told it to? It's all a sham, and thank goodness, President Bush commuted the excessive sentence. It should be a pardon. Most of all the pardons President Clinton gave were for actual criminals. Why didn't all the liberals who are yelling fowl right now say something about the illegalities of what Clinton has done????

This country is in a sad state of affairs when what is right is considered wrong, and what is wrong is considered right.

155. Scooter isn't guilty. Parris is guilty. Clinton made the mistake when he pardoned all those people. But somehow Hilary and Democrates think it's okay that Bill did it though he was wrong. Did people forget that someone else admitted to the CIA leak? The true guilty one. People are blind because they want to blame Bush for everyhing. Most people who hate Bush don't have a good reason. Scooter Libby was convicted of obstruction of justice. He lied to federal agents investigating who leaked Valerie Plame's name to the press. He was not "busted for leaking a CIA agent's identity".

156. Please get your facts straight. Scooter Libby was not found guilty for leaking a "covert" operative's name. Once it was found out who really "leaked" her identity, the libs realized they couldn't get Cheney, so they kept hunting down Libby and finally, when the man had conflicting accounts of passing conversations said over 5 years prior, they got him on perjury. A man's life is destroyed ($250,000, loss of law license, name besmirched) all because those who hate the Bush Administration had to make someone pay for the monomanical hatred.

157. President Bush pardoning Libby is not a big deal.

Hillary Clinton attacked President Bush for pardoning Libby what about her husband?

JUDGE JUDY BEFORE YOU JUDGE PRESIDENT BUSH LOOK WHAT YOUR HUSBAND

DID. he pardoned 141 cases one of that is his brother, McDougal's etc.

May I remind you Hillary Clinton that your husband had an affair with Monica Lewinsky

and you should be ashamed of that because your husband has to look for another

woman 20 years younger than you because President Clinton is not satisfied with you.

Your marriage with President Clinton is just a "show" and I don't see any emotional

connections with your marriage.

Hillary before you judge President Bush, look inside your heart and your husband

focus on your family's problem before you focus on someone else.

I DON'T SEE YOU HILLARY CLINTON THAT YOU WILL BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR

PRESIDENT BECAUSE I KNOW AMERICA WILL BE THE WORST COUNTRY IF YOU

EVER BECOME THE PRESIDENT OF THE US. HOW CAN YOU BE A PRESIDENT?

HOW CAN YOU SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF AMERICA, THE WAR IN IRAQ YOU DON'T

EVEN KNOW HOW TO HANDLE YOUR HUSBAND AND YOUR DAUGHTER.

HILLARRY CLINTON THE WORST AND THE WORST AND THE WORST WOMAN, WIFE

AND A CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT EVER LIVED. AMERICA WILL BE BANKCRUPT

IF YOU VOTE FOR HER. WATCH OUT SHE WILL MESS YOUR LIFE.

158. "Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald said Plame was covert. I'll believe him any day over the Right wing spin."

If this is true, then why wasn't Richard Armitage, who admitted to outing her, charged with a crime?

Oh, right. Because he was a critic of the war. (Read: He was on the "right" side.) He leaked it so he could sit back and let the administration be framed for it.

So thanks for that. It sheds light on another piece of evidence that this whole thing was a political witch hunt.

159. Libby was not the leaker - all he did was lie on the stand...hmmm like just about everyone else in that joke of a trial. No one else was sentenced! They found the leaker & gave him a pass! Libby was a scapegoat. He didn't deserve jail time. Paris certainly did. She could have killed someone.
