Hilary Duff knows how to get a few more albums sold -- work the gays!
The Duffster played a brief set at West Hollywood gay club Popstarz over the weekend, performing two songs from her latest CD for the Team Hilary packed dance floor. The club was nearly at twice the normal capacity for a Friday night as excited Duff fans crammed into the club and paid the $15 cover charge to see Hil writhe around stage for less than 10 minutes.
Looks like someone's been taking tips from Britney Spears!

I thought Hilary Duff was a genuinely good girl who wasn`t hard partying - and who wouldn`t perfome at clubs, none the less GAY BARS. It`s obvious that she`s anxious to be considered serious by Hollywood, so she`s gonna try and go to gay bars - to prove what? That she STILL has no singing talent? Hilary seems like she`s going down the one big giant toilet that is Hollywood. LiKE OMiGOD ITS HiLARY DUFFFFF! Thats gay people. Maybe they`re the only people who appreciate her now, because she sings just like them. Maybe Hilary is gay, haha! Even though I`m just kinda ranting now, compared to Lindsay and Britney she`s pretty tame, but the girl needs a newsflash: You`re not gonna grow up unless you do coke, in hollywood, sweetie. You were Lizzie McGuire, okay? Now go home, stop singing and gain 10 pounds. Okay.

I wonder the same thing. It's as if being gay, hanging around gay people, performing for gay people, or campaigning for gay rights/causes is "in fashion" right now.
I've never had a problem with people being gay. Live and let live. But, why the huge focus on them now?

Alanis, Cyndi, Madonna, Mariah Carey, etc. - these women all suddenly found themselves with gay audiences because they just naturally attracted them. They don't warrant criticism for that, as all 4 of them in particular have seen success fluctuate, but have always been consistently themselves.
However, the newer acts like Britney, Jennifer Lopez and Hilary Duff all are courting gay audiences specifically because they are nothing more than opportunists looking to court a gay audience. Jennifer is the most gratingly annoying - she is so obviously trying to manipulate gay men into liking her, and she has succeeded.
So that's that. Hilary only makes herself simply yet another string on the pearls of this growing opportunistic trend.

performing for gay audiences is hardly a new trend... anyone who thinks so has been living under a rock for a very long time. gay guys are the most appreciative and loyal fans any performer could hope to have and, historically, have supported the world's greatest talents.
this particular case, however, shows that gay guys can also have lousy taste just like everybody else.
