Malibu Fire Rages On -- Celebs Being Evacuated?

10/21/2007 2:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The celeb-filled community of Malibu is currently being threatened by a dangerous brushfire, as Malibu residents around Puerco Canyon are being advised to evacuate.

The affected area is north of the Pacific Coast Highway, and only a mile west of Pepperdine University. Authorities fear the fire may jump the now-closed PCH. Over 500 acres have already been destroyed, aided by heavy Santa Ana winds that have been gusting as high as 100 MPH since last night.

Celebrities who live in the area include Britney Spears, Mel Gibson and Olivia Newton-John. No word yet on whether they have been affected. A landmark hillside home known as the "Malibu Castle," owned by socialite philanthropist Lilly Lawrence, burned to the ground.

wow!!

Somehow it doesn't seem so terrible for them to lose their stuff, when they can replace it with no problem. Most homes there are probably a second, third, fourth or more!!

#3 It does matter if they lose their homes. Don't hate people because they are rich and you are not. They don't deserve this anymore than the rest of us!!!

Instead of evacuating the students at Pepperdine, they're being told to stay inside. Guess we shouldn't be surprised.

Oh, good news for Brit. Soon she will only have one house to avoid being at.

Johnny Hollywood, are you kidding? It doesn't matter if it's a second or third home, it's still someone's personal property. Insensitive much?

This area is one of America's most beautiful pieces of coastline and beach. Although it is easy to sneer about the rich being inconvenienced by this fire as they have made it so hard for the rest of us to enjoy it, it is still something America should mourn. Besides, Olivia Newton-John is a wonderful person and I hope she and her home are safe and sound.

Being wealthy does not help if you lose photos and personal mementos. They are irreplaceable no matter how much money you have. I hope the fires will soon be out for everyone's sake.
