Oprah Backs Obama -- Will It Help or Hurt?

She has more power over women than George Clooney, has sold more books than Barnes and Noble -- and now Oprah Winfrey is throwing every ounce of her spectacularly influential and fluctuating weight behind Barack Obama.

It marks the first time in her life that Oprah is breaking tradition and endorsing a candidate for president. But will support from Oprah improve Barack's chances?

Star support in politics isn't all that it seems -- remember Al Gore? Just about every star in Hollywood backed Al -- and all it got him was an Oscar, a Nobel Peace Prize and a role on "30 Rock" -- but no work in the Oval Office.

Should Barack tell Oprah "Thanks, but no thanks!" or should he be as thrilled as one of her "Favorite Things" audience members?

61. Oprah has become a train-wreck of blunders over the last year to 18 months. I certainly wouldn't want her endorsing me! Oprah's not as studied and prepared as she used to be. She's tired and spent, and it shows through in all her blunders! She should retire.

64. I once worked for the "DNC" and everyone was just like Obama or Oprah! Very sharp PEOPLE but very FAKE! . No substance .They weren't deep thinkers or visionaries. They played on people's emotions instead of engaging their intellect . whites in the DNC were rebels and revolutionaries(and a little nutty) who were using these people to seek their own power. They also were running their own "power game" and needed distractions like an "obama" to ultimately get that power. I didn't fall for it then and I wont today! That's why I left the DNC ......10 years ago!

67. Oprah has made some bad decisions lately about character of individuals. For example, plastic surgeon she supported was a butcher and she had a child molester at her school. Think about it. She's easily fooled.

69. okay people lets get off the plastic surgeon and kanye's dear mother( may she rest in peace) it wasn't the fault of the doctor. ms west was too old to sustain the effects of plastic surgery. and she died after leave in the man office. mmkay? mind you that as nothing to do with opras reputation. its obviously still valid and she has the cash to back it up

Anyone who is influenced to vote for Obama because they like Oprah is between stupid and more stupid..lacks in intelligence..Oprah is loved because of her TV show and the good she does for others..but trust me, she is not in anyway qualified to support a presidential candidate for her political savy..she knows how to get the tv ratings/knows her business in that field, but trust me, don't vote for Obama because Oprah likes him and he is black.. I think the guy is great and somewhere down the road would vote for him (I'm white) but he is still too green, wet behind the ears when it comes to running our country..and no great accomplishment to have "hose nose" Streisand support Hillary..Sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom in the whitehouse does not qualify one to be politically savy..

Yup, I agree with you, Oprah is a bigot at heart...but a good heart inspite of..I would hate to think that the women able to vote would be like sheep and follow her wherever or whatever she does...

73. Nish ,your argument is old and tired. It went out during the 60s. (which was good for that time period) Today,it's a new world. A more dangerous one after 911. Be a bit more mature about this and handle your emotions better dude. It's not just the name. I don't think his views are realistic or at all practical. That might hurt you because you want a black president. I don't think most Americans are against that and one day it may happen. but judge him as a candidate not because he is black and you need to root for him. That's s not reasonable thinking. He's not the one dude! Hate to break it to you. I am an" American first" and I want what is good for this country. This is not the movies. Rudy is the man ( or.Mitt Romney) Not because they are ,necessarily white, but because they are,truly , the best candidate for America!

74. Nish...so what you're saying is....BARACK OBAMA SHOULD BE ELECTED BECAUSE HE'S BLACK AND BLACK PEOPLE NEED REPRESENTATION. Try working on the militant attitude of poor us black folk. That is one reason white people are against black people, is because they are so tired of the special treatment you expect. And, I realize there are racists. But when white people, or hispanic people, or any other race, hear and see black people acting as if they should have something BECAUSE THEY ARE BLACK, that seems pretty racist and black supremecist. 75. black conservative, what i'm saying is you don't know what he's capable of and being a african american you should realize that just becuase you have it good now. 9 times out of ten a white president is going to be thinking about your well being. perfect example, the katrina disaster occured in a predominatly black area. when it was brought to bushes attention what was done? nothing at all. if it had been in a white part of texas, bush would have sent planes busses and boats out to rescue those victims. al imsaying is don't run the opposite way just becuase he looks like you. all we have is each other. not to say he the best candidate becuase personaly I theink the us needs a womans touch but try not to be so.....conservative. its not healthy (please excuse my typos)
